Why is this happening?

According to her its not warranted according to islam.
you can wear a long skirt and long sleeved blouse.

You dont have to be wearing a black overcoat on top of your outfit, which is how it is worn.

In fact just the other day I asked her - so do you wear anything under the burqa, and she goes - you perv, yes its like a coat.
It’s not necessary to wear a black overcoat on top of one’s outfit–she’s right about that.

It is necessary to cover the entire body in loose non-transparent clothing, however, except the face and hands. So a long-sleeved blouse and skirt is not sufficient.

Your hatred makes you blind. I do not hate, so I am not blind. 🙂

Additionally, a burkha is not a veil. A burqa is a common body covering (veil) in the subcontinent. But if you were to pronounce it as “burkha” in a class with some of my teachers… lol…

q is not equal to kh

But I am not fooled by your mock sympathy for abuse or discrimination–it is only a tool for you to get angry about Islam. You hate Islam so much you don’t even want people to talk to Muslims, or let them into chapels.

This reminds me of a story about people in a cave, when a man came in and described the beauty of the world outside, they popped out his eyes thinking he was insane because of the bulges against his brain… they couldn’t see, and so they didn’t understand.

As I said, your hatred makes you blind.
:rotfl: I’ve got to go now, I’m got some stopping people from talking to muslims and keeping muslims out of chapels to do today.

Absolutely it’s an outrage. In the Islamic world Christians are living in persecution and are unable to build nor repair their Churches at all, or without going through ridiculously long processes. Often, their Churches are being damaged at the same time by local muslims. Also, there are muslims laying claim to local Churches land. Not to mention that no Churches are allowed in Saudi Arabia.

Islam is a supremist ideology and it’s adherents also.

Of course, YOU wouldn’t know about this, nor care. You can’t see clearly through your islamic burkha.
This sounds like and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, in the end everyone ends up blind and toothless.

This is happening because it is the teaching of the Church to have open diloge and respect for other faiths. There is common ground that Catholics and Muslims can find to end hate, and strife. It may not happen overnight, to change the hearts of men and women, but it must happen. This is happening because it is one step along the way. You need to let go of your hate and see and love others as Christ would.

Too many issues here.

But I do wonder why the loathing about a positive statement about Islamic finance systems? Taking off the cultural bias glasses (the ones that state that any and all Islamic cultural values must always be evil and generally inferior to Western ones), it seems to me that the Islamic ideas about finance are indeed flawed, but perhaps not as much so as our current Western ideas. I fear we westerners have embraced usury without thinking about it enough. The doctrine is worth dusting off and having a second look to see how it should be applied in an inflationary world.

And by the way, finding positive elements hardly means any sort of intent to convert. Muslim tradition is very much in line with our own on a lot of individual moral issues. Best do as St. Paul did, use/adopt what is positive and reject the error and falsehood.

Fab, please ignore my posts and I won’t fall into the temptation is saying exactly what I think of the dhimmi’s amongst us, like yourself. You are displaying both an ignorance of the history of Islam and its atrocities, and a moral position where there is no higher truth, all truths are equal, all morals are equal.

The dialogue in the Church is supposed to be, in Pope B’s words, “…in charity, but first, in truth”.

Yes, I hate the ideology of Islam, it is against every value I hold dear, it is against every value that the Church holds dear, it is an abomination on humanity. Satanism, paganism, pre-historic human behaviour, however people wish to describe it, it is an ideology that I will fight against, argue against, and speak the truth about. Any person who speaks on it’s behalf will come against my arguments, and others on this forum and elsewhere. If that upsets their sensitivities, to hear the truth about their ideology, maybe they should choose another ideology or another pet victim to speak on behalf of.

Unless there was an Islamic prayer or worship service going on, or some sort of celebratory party or something, there is little wrong with interfaith dialogue, even if it does happen in a chapel.

Are we supposed to pretend that other faiths don’t exist? That we don’t need to discuss our differences? Are we just supposed to stick our heads in the sand and not say a word to Muslims? Unless it’s derogatory, of course, in which case apparently we can fire at will. 🤷

I see. Does she pray?
Yes, all the time.

My son was born with a condition called craniosynostosis. He needed surgery to fix it.

Before his birth my wife and I were separated.

His birth changed everything for both of us, we decided that he was most important.

I dont think my wife would be with me if she believed she was going to hell for it. Yes, she is married to a non-muslim, but there are other facets to her relationship with God, so its sort of like a see saw of good and sin for her.

Besides we are bringing my son up as a muslim, which I am fine with.

No I am not a Dhimmi and yes I do know some of the history of Islam. I also know that the atrocities of the crusaders of my church were just as bad. Remove the plank from your own eye before complaining about the spinter in your nieghbors.
How many years do you want this conflict to continue? since it started in the 10th and 11th centuries, have we not come far enough by the 21st century to know that continued hate is not the answer. Before the Kingdom of God can some for any of us, it seems we must lay down differnces. Christ told us that we must love God and love our neighbor. Those of the Islamic Faith are my neighbors. I can disagree with them on doctrine and faith, but we beleive in a single God and our roots come form a common time (Abraham). Resonable people can disagree, but still work for the common good. What better role would have for the Church?

It is a shame that more Muslim do not know their roots. So much of their history is misrepresented to them they believe they peacefully converted the Middle East. If they only knew that their ancestors were killed and forcibly converted from Christianity. Their ancestor were martys for Christianity.

There were forcable conversions, but perhaps you should remember the inquisitions of the Catholic Church. There is plenty of shed blood and bad blood on both sides, but continued hate does nothing to make this a more peaceful world. The people of both faiths need to start following the lead of Church to find common ground amoung us.

Agreed, except for that old Reagan line: “Trust, but verify.”

Western christianity today has at least a decades old record of pluralism and tolerance of muslims living in nations and cultures that were historically christian. Is it not reasonable to expect a bit of reciprocity at some point? WHEN? When can I as a christian be able to expect to be allowed to preach the gospel of Christ on a street corner in Saudi Arabia without being arrested at best or simply gunned down at worst?

We HAVE extended the hand, but true progress requires effort by both parties.

It is not entirely unreasonable for Islamophobes to rail against the dual standards expected of western cultures versus Islamic cultures.
