=The Wizard;9269023]I have a friend who, although born an raised Catholic, just can not come to terms with alot of what The Church teaches. One reason for this is he does not take the time to learn what and why The Church really teaches what it teaches. We both grow up in the 1950’s and 1960’s and were poorly catechized. My journey has lead me to learn about The Church. And I have used my knowledge to answer some of his questions.
His latest problem with The Church is why does “The Church use a stick to beat people into going to mass on Sunday”. Why did The Church make it a sin not to go to mass on Sunday? He feels that without this “stick” half the Catholic would not go to mass on Sunday. It is only advisable that you should go to church on Sunday in the Protestant churches.
Seems like a resonable question? Or is it?
What many seem to over look is that what the Catholic Church “mandates” is nearly always what God mandates.
This is a VERY BIG DEAL WITH GOD:
It is the Second Commandment: Exo. 20:
And God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. "You shall have no other gods before me.”
"You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
“Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day”
Exod.20: 8, 11 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.
Exod.31: 15 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall be put to death.
WHY: God made us
God keeps us in existence
***There are 168 hours in a week: 168 divided into a 1 hour mass = 0.005923% of the week. Is that REALLY excessive? ***
Duet.5: 12, 15 “Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out thence with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day”
**Even the man-Jesus Kept Holy this special day! **
Luke.4: 16 “And he [Jesus] came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he went to the synagogue, as his custom was, on the sabbath day. And he stood up to read;”
PRAY for him: His “Theism” has become [as is common these days] “MEISM!”
God bless,
