Why marriage for homosexuals

Why do homosexuals fight to be married when God stated that marriage is between a man and a woman? Why can’t a new union type be created-like a legal blendage especially for same sex couples? Could the same sex couples be that blind to the power of God? I would be pretty afraid of the future to look God squarely in the eye and say I am going to undo what you have created. History has some lessons on that, from the Pharaohs to wandering Jews. Give blendage all the legal rights of legal marriages, but not the sacramental blessings, which won’t happen anyway because same sex couples do not meet the requirements for a marriage in the eyes of God.
It is another form of selfish hedonism. Nothing simpler. Considering the rates of disease and promiscuity amongst homosexuals it is a very risky form of hedonism.

The homosexual lobby wish to normalise the same sex relationships which have been frowned on down through history. They want more than simple ‘non-discrimination’, because they wish to make equal that which is different and can never be equal. Homosexuality has been condemned by God, the Church and its moral teachings and is constantly and continually condemned by Natural law, which underpinned the rise of our once great western civilisation. The moral relativity which is espoused by the pro-gay brigade is undermining our very society.

It is really kooky that this is such a big topic around here. We can see how the Church is struggling with social progress. It will either come around, or it will die a slow death. You can’t fight progress. It is a platitude that those who forget history are destined to relive it, the Church has decided to look backwards instead of forwards, and has elected a very conservative leader. Once he fails, then the choice will be obvious in these issues.

Cafeteria Catholics, as they are called around here, harp on the gay issue, but then refuse for force a rape victim to marry her rapist, and refuse to stone adulterers to death, and refuse to follow all the other Mosaic laws, <—If you hadn’t noticed:rolleyes:…they also “refuse” to follow Old Testament Law regarding homosexuals. while selectively troubling their little minds over sexuality. It is not a big deal. Just as it is not a big deal whether you mix different fibers in your clothing, or whether a man shaves his face.

The Church has a history of slowly changing its moral teachings in response to social progress. The current doctrine is to throw the 2,000 years of tradition into the dust bin in order to satisfy the prejudices and bigotry of a minority of Catholics (in my opinion) over matters of sexual identity. I think that this will be viewed in retrospect as foolishness, and as one of the many dark episodes in the Church’s history. Granted, that it is not as bad as putting Jews in ghettos, requiring them to wear badges, and prohibiting them from most professions. Not as bad as supporting the Nazi’s. Probably about the same as protecting child molesters. Not as bad as burning heretics alive.

Try to wake up, if you can.
Try paying attention to the whole picture rather than just you little pet cause. Catholics here are “refusing” to stone homosexuals, which means they’re also ignoring OT Law regarding homosexuals just as much as the other things you listed.

In muslim countries though, it’s the exact opposite. You have homosexuals being killed by the government, according to government law and then you have the president of Iran running around the planet bragging about it. Anyone who REALLY cared about homosexual rights would first be dealing with state sanctioned murder of homosexuals because obviously, that’s where the tragedy lies. Aiming your pointed finger at the Catholic Church or Christianity in general is kind of like whining about a disdainful frown from one group whilst ignoring mass murder from another group. If you were concerned about homosexuals you’d actually be telling muslims to be more like Catholics on this matter.

It’s also not just Catholics who behave this way. It’s most of Christianity. And in perspective, every non Catholic Church I’ve been to “harps” on homosexuality MORE than I’ve ever heard in the Catholic Church.

Try waking up…if YOU can.😃

You are wasting your time if you are hoping for a rational response on THIS forum. I’ve been trying for days. Most of the active members are irrational, ignorant, intolerant and quite impervious to reason. “Double-think” is alive and well, and living on Catholic Answers (for example, “HERE”:forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=574636&page=8)
Please do not tell me you came to a Catholic apologetics forum and expected to blow us away with your never-before-heard arguments about why homosexual and heterosexual relationships should be considered equivalent and why the Catholic Church is going to go extinct if it doesn’t come around on the issue of homosexual marriage–how did one of you two put it?–“in light of new knowledge”. Blah, blah, blah, blah blah blah blah like every letter-to-the-editor section in every newspaper in the country.

You were going to teach all of us to think, were you? You were going to give us the facts that we had somehow just never heard in our little Roman ivory tower, and we were going to go slack-jawed, because we had just never heard the question couched in such water-tight rhetoric as you could provide.

Now that you’ve failed with the same tired arguments we’ve heard a million times about modern science and what kind of teaching authority the Pope has and who knows what else, you are going to chomp down those sour grapes, are you? “They are all just irrational, ignorant, intolerant and impervious to reason…because if they were anything else, THEY WOULD AGREE WITH ME!”

Do you see any problem with your expectations? Did you want to accomplish something by coming here, or did you just want to feel warm and fuzzy in your self-proclaimed progressive superiority? Could you have not accomplished your self-congratulations without wasting our time about it? Are you that optimistic, or just that full of yourself?

Oh, and Rock Happy’s need to throw mention of the Church’s scandals in…*very *original, and very relevant. How could anyone fail to capitulate to such rhetorical brilliance? You are right, we must all be Neanderthals. Either that, or you must think we’re eventually going to drop from the torture of a thousand cuts if you just throw the same useless jabs into our faces enough times.

Now, if you want to have a debate, then debate. Otherwise, save it. It is tiresome.

With this tiresome irrational rant you have just demonstrated the worst features of so-called debate on this forum. Nothing you have written has any connection with what I have written. The only thing I have failed in so far is getting a rational response from Pope-worshippers and people who make outrageous claims eg the person above who informs us that homosexuals are indulging in selfish hedonistic behaviour, implying that gay people don’t have loving relationships. What planet are you people living on?

Since I joined a few days ago I have observed a similar pattern in these “debates.” Deeply conservative reactionary Catholics pat each other on the back. Then someone chimes in with a relevant question. They get given a sad answer based upon some invalid argument. When they object, they get more of the same. I have just been told by you that I have argued for equivalence between gay and straight relationships. I haven’t. Yesterday I was told I couldn’t possibly be concerned about the state of the Liturgy, when I have beeen attending the TLM for years. The first thread I started was a simple question: In view of the fact there are few if any infallible statements on morality how can we be certain what is right or wrong? It is a pefectly reasonable question. The replies I received were mostly along the lines of “Read the Bible”, “It’s in the Cathechism”, “Everything official is without error” and other sad responses. No-one is blaming you if you don’t know any answers or if you are unable to debate, but why call yourselves “Catholic Answers” if you don’t have any answers. I have debated a great deal on the net, and I have had some success arguing against the sceptics on James Randi site (and they are hard nuts to crack), but I would be ashamed to refer anyone to this forum. It seems to me a refuge for sad, reactionary bigotted Pope- worshippers who have too much time on their hands.

Hello Second Eve,

What Easter Joy was pointing out to you, basically, is that your attitude is such that an exchange would go nowhere. You begin with disrespect and insults, such as the following:
most of the active members are irrational, ignorant, intolerant and quite impervious to reason. “Double-think” is alive and well…
There is really nowhere to start with this sort of thing that would plausibly lead anywhere useful. This is certainly my judgement at any rate. My time is valuable.

God Bless,
Joan

You are missing the point. I did not START with any attitude. My response is as it is because of the responses I have received. Try reading what I actually wrote; it’s a good place to start.

Why do homosexuals fight to be married when God stated that marriage is between a man and a woman?
Marriage is not a heterosexual privilege; it’s a human right. They want to be married just like heterosexual couples. It’s only fair. That’s literally the most simplistic and reasonable answer possible. The denial of this right is upsetting. Adam wouldn’t say, “Steve, will you civil union me?” That’s pretty ridiculous!
Why can’t a new union type be created-like a legal blendage especially for same sex couples?
Because it’s not fair…
Could the same sex couples be that blind to the power of God?
There are plenty of gay Catholics and Christians on this lovely planet of ours, and saying things like that (“blind”) is really offensive, even if the Bible condemns it.
Give blendage all the legal rights of legal marriages, but not the sacramental blessings, which won’t happen anyway because same sex couples do not meet the requirements for a marriage in the eyes of God.
In the future, marriage for homosexuals will be legal in every state. That’s not an opinion; it’s a fact. Google “New York Gay Marriage 2011.” It’s a reality.

I agree, it’s not fair to society. It goes against the common good.

The poster has a point. Same-sex couples insisting on ‘marriage’ are blind. Fools gold is not gold. A fake diamond is not a diamond. They do not want to look past their sin, past the violation of natural law, blind to divine law.

Jack, you should read this: Sex and the Empire State. It might make you understand a few things through the eyes of a true Catholic, not Catholic in name only.

Moderators, please feel free to move this question if it’s in the wrong place.
Been lurking for awhile, not quite confident enough to be a regular poster.
My question is, why do we hear about all of the privileges that gay-marriage proponents want, but none of the responsibilities or obligations?
Is a “civil union” going to confer all of the privileges AND obligations that real marriage would? I’ve never been married, so I’m not qualified to list the responsibilities/obligations, but there must be some, no?
TIA for your patience with a newbie,
mcpush

That question seems appropriate on this thread, no worries:

I’m not sure why obligations are not emphasized. Probably because even heterosexual couples don’t focus too heavily on them either. So, they don’t have any qualms with them I guess? Here’s a list of them for the U.S.:Spousal income and assets are counted in determining need in many forms of government assistance, including:
veteran’s medical and home care benefits
housing assistance
housing loans for veterans
child’s education loans
educational loan repayment schedule
agricultural price supports and loans
eligibility for federal matching campaign funds
Ineligible for National Affordable Housing program if spouse ever purchased a home:
Subject to conflict-of-interest rules for many government and government-related jobs
Ineligible to receive various survivor benefits upon remarriage

There of course could be further obligations at the state level.

Uncharitable. Name-calling. Out of topic. Three forum violations right there.

Now if you express your views absent the barbs, relative to the OP, which ideally should stand or explain enough without the expectation that other participants to the thread review your posts in other threads, you may get a different response.

As for the part of your post as bolded, if that is what you feel, there must be other forums where you (and Rock Happy) can meaningfully participate so as not to waste YOUR time, where you can express more than just contempt and disdain for the Church or Pope, or for the Catholic members of CAF.

look JACK ,

Marriage is a heterosexual right only not because this country says so but because its God’s way and what he says . You are right to put Catholic by name only under your profile . It is not fair to God that he would make a person just so he or she can turn around and practice sexuality that would mock him . A man was not made to have sexual intercourse with another man. Let me explain : Male Homosexual acts involve the Rectum in a way not natural . God did not invent that part of your body for that . The reason why you and i are here is because God used a man and woman to create us not a man and a man or a woman and woman . Stop with these ridiculous liberal views that are trying to ruin this country . Bring these issues like Abortion and Homosexual marriage to a vote and they would be voted down forever . You and I both know that .

Marriage is not a human right Jack. It’s denied to all kinds of people, not just homosexuals. Homosexuals are just the only ones making all the noise about not having their particular deviation made into a normalcy. It’s NOT all about homosexuals, DESPITE the fact that homosexuals are trying to make it that way. Society does not need to pretend a deviation of any kind is normal or healthy or acceptable just so the deviant can feel good to go with his deviancy.

If evolution is true then the so-called gay gene would have been weeded out long ago.

If evolution is true then the so-called gay gene would have been weeded out long ago.
Now that’s something I’ve never heard before…and sensible too. 🙂
I’ve heard homosexuals trying to make up evolutionary arguments for themselves but the arguments have always been ridiculous.
Homosexuals exist to prevent overpopulation, an idea that homosexuals men are more inclined to help with their aging mothers needs, or help care for the sisters kids, etc.

Why do homosexuals fight to be married when God stated that marriage is between a man and a woman? Why can’t a new union type be created-like a legal blendage especially for same sex couples? The term “marriage” means different things to different people. To many people (I suspect most) marriage is about being in love and spending the rest of your life with that person. The wedding is a society event and the church is a backdrop. Be aware that these are not my personal beliefs for how I think they should be!

To the church there are spiritually unitive and procreative qualities, etc., these are eternal.

To society there are legal issues about inheritance, power of attorney, medical decisions, benefits, taxes, survivorship, etc., that did not come from the church and are not controlled by the church. These have also evolved and changed over time and different cultures. If you are including the civil aspects in your definition of marriage, I suppose it would be safe to say that marriage has already been redefined many times. Many of these are automatically available to married couples in one fell swoop by getting married and becoming the legal next of kin. However, many of these are already available to just about anyone by visiting an attorney and having legal papers drawn up…one by one and with legal fees. You can even print out pre-worded forms on the Internet, have them signed by witnesses and have the document notarized. The church does not control these civic details. Homosexuals feel that they should have equal access to these civil rights without having to pay what they see as an unfair tax (attorney fees). I suppose a lot of this would be covered under “civil unions” although I do not know too much about this or how they differ state to state. I have heard that even in situations where civil unions are recognized the legal benefits are still different. For example medical benefits from an insurer may have to be counted as taxable income if the beneficiary partner uses it.

In its strictest religious sense I am not in favor of gay marriage. Something happens at a spiritual level when two people marry that is only ordained by God. We might deny it, but nothing in human law can change this. However, I also do not see how the church or government can prevent people from entering a legal contract that says “when I am on my deathbed I want x to make decisions on my behalf, inherit my property, etc.” People would still have access to these regardless if we call them marriages or civil unions.

If it is the case that this topic is kookily a big deal around here, why do you blame the Catholics? If you payed attention you’d notice that a lot of the threads on various forums have been started by non-Catholics, by a lot of ‘pretend Catholics’ and by those who state outright that they are homosexual. In fact, check out this thread on Anti-Catholic trolls posing as Catholics. Quite a few CAF regulars are of the opinion that many seem to deliberately come here to wind up people on this issue and it also seems to be the case that a lot fall for their moral relativity nonsense. You included.

The Church is not “…struggling with social progress…”, as you term it. It is making a stand against moral decline, which you seem to confuse with “social progress”. As for those who forget history, it is those, like you, who fail to heed the lessons of history which show without a shadow of doubt that moral decline, dressed up as “social progress” and swallowed as such by the hedonistic, unthinking and uncritical masses, has brought down nations and empires. The Church is not “looking backwards” as you seem to think, but is looking forward with some prescience to the logical outcomes of the moral decline evident in society. It has happened before.
Cafeteria Catholics, as they are called around here, harp on the gay issue, but then refuse for force a rape victim to marry her rapist, and refuse to stone adulterers to death, and refuse to follow all the other Mosaic laws, while selectively troubling their little minds over sexuality. It is not a big deal. Just as it is not a big deal whether you mix different fibers in your clothing, or whether a man shaves his face.
This paragraph shows a complete and utter failure on your part to even understand what Christianity is. Since Jesus came along, not all the old Mosaic Law is applicable. Read St. Paul and maybe you’ll understand. However, he, St. Paul, was unequivocal about who would inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. Homosexuals wont.
You have posted this drivel and nonsense before. What you say about the Church supposedly changing its teachings in response to “social progress” is a blatant nonsense. Read the Didache, or St. Paul and then explain to us how the moral teachings of the Church have changed, if you can. The Church has been underpinned by Natural Law morality since its inception and that doesn not allow for the moral degeneration which you support, disguised as “social change”.
Granted, that it is not as bad as putting Jews in ghettos, requiring them to wear badges, and prohibiting them from most professions. Not as bad as supporting the Nazi’s. Probably about the same as protecting child molesters. Not as bad as burning heretics alive.
The catholic Church neither put Jews into Ghettos, prohibited them from anything, nor made them wear badges. Nor did the Church support the Nazis, yet you, by your dishonest inferences, would tie the Church to those things. And by the way, the Church did not burn heritics alive either. Secualr authorities did. It was the decree of Kings that such a thing should be done.
Try to wake up, if you can.
It is you who needs to wake up. Your distorted views of history and your perverted sense of what Christianity and Catholicism are has caused you to totally reverse the truth of these matters. Your cheap diatribes against the Catholic Church only serve to wake people up to what your true agenda is.

I’m living on planet Earth and have done so all my life. Obviously you haven’t been here long, because you haven’t made sense with your use of our language yet. You also seem angry. What happened, did your space ship crash? Missing you alien friends perhaps? Don’t fear, no-one here will hurt you and may even help save you.

Firstly, while you are still acclimatising to our little blue planet, let me inform you about the truth of certain matters, lest you return to where you came from in a thoroughly confused state of mind. I’d better attend to this, otherwise someone might actually tell you to go back where you came from! 👍

There are no “Pope worshippers” on planet earth. Your computers must have malfunctioned as your ship veered off course. The Pope is a leader of the Catholic Church and all its members worship God, who created this planet. Please point us in the direction of they who told you we worship the Pope. They can go with you when you leave.

I would also like to point out to you that I am the person who wrote that homosexuals are indulging in selfish hedonistic behaviour. Your right, I shouldn’t have written that. It was tautological. I should have just said “hedonistic behaviour”, because, after all, hedonism is selfish. You see, even we who have lived here a long time sometimes forget the rules of our language. Never mind, for now that you can see that even grammar has rules you will be able to converse with us a lot more inteligently and to think more clearly about our earthly issues. You see, hedonism is where behaviour is carried out without regard to consequences and pleasure is the sole aim. Homosexuals are notoriously promiscuous and the disease rates amongst them are horrendously high. Many of them carry a virus which is deadly to our life form, but, thankfully, our modern medical knowledge is able to help sufferers. However, a lot of other problems arise from the risky behaviour of homosexuals and is worsening. I hope your planet doesn’t have similar problems. The big problem on earth is that there are is a minority who wants to make the abnormal behaviour of homosexuals normal. No-one’s quite figured out how to make something that’s abnormal normal, except by saying it is. I’m sure that to a space traveller like you, that doesn’t make sense.
I haven’t.
Invalid arguments? Oh dear, the people you are referring to couldn’t be good Catholics, because the catholic Church is famous for its very coherent and cogent moral philosophy. You should study it in depth while you are here. It’s all based on the teachings of God, who made the whole universe and Natural Law, a lot of which God allows us to discern for ourselves. It’s quite remarkable really and all societies which have recognised it and lived by it have thrived.

Yesterday I was told I couldn’t possibly be concerned about the state of the Liturgy, when I have beeen attending the TLM for years. The first thread I started was a simple question: In view of the fact there are few if any infallible statements on morality how can we be certain what is right or wrong? You seem to be making a concerted effort to learn about and understand the Catholic Church. That’s fabulous. However, you need to do some work on Natural Law and its consequent morality. That underpins the morality of the Church and all of Christianity. Well, it did, until a few thought they knew better and decided to make up their own rules. God even carved the basic rules onto stone tablets to remind us what was important, but some think even those rules needen’t apply anymore. pretty sad, really. Ignore that, get back to the basics and it will all fit together quite nicely. You’ll see.
Maybe because people haven’t really got too much time on their hands is the reason why they tell you to go do the homework. It is in the Bible and in the Catechism and other places as well, but some you need to think out for yourself. That’s why God gave us a brain each. Yours might think a bit differently, but while you are here, you will cotton on. It’s always hard when you land on a new planet. Just before I forget, if you do come across any “Pope worshippers”, let us know so we can set them straight too. I dunno what the world is coming to sometimes.

It has not been observed that well-catechized Catholics keep opening threads on the same subject. Rather it has been observed by Catholics and non-Catholics that with a few sincere exceptions, overwhelmingly these threads are opened by those with political motives obsessed with the topic for their own political ends, as well as those not well catechized who mistake a fraudulent “charity” for a truthful charity. (The two posts below are merely recent observations, by no means representative of all such observations. The third posts insightfully recognizes the false compassion that is a misinterpretation of the Catechism teaching on homosexuality and true Christian response to that.)

My point …was the number of very similar threads you will find here on CAF focused on homosexuality and “identity”. They spring up about every 4 days.

I think the main thing that is happening now is that homosexual advocates are monitoring a lot of blog websites, especially Christian one, and then when there is any post or conversation regarding Christian marriage or being opposed to homosexual marriage they come on and spam the discussion. I’m somewhat surprised it is not happening here, but it is happening on most sites, e.g., here’s just one example, on a Catholic women’s site:

The homosexual advocates must have their browsers on search for any thread that mentions things like traditional marriage, etc., and then in a few posts they come in as trolls and flame the thread. The Christian Post is getting it the worst, you should see how the posters trash all their stories on marriage over there, they’ve basically shut down the comment feature on their stories. Here’s one example of that, look at the comments:

My “conversion priest” constantly corrected me about visiting this forum and told me to stick to authentic Catholic sources, i.e., USCCB and Vatican websites. That way I wouldn’t get so confused. Though I was reverting, I had many questions that had yet to be answered to my liking or understanding. It took authentic Catholic Church teaching to convince me, not the fraud teachings shrouded by the so called Catholics showing charity.
