With this tiresome irrational rant you have just demonstrated the worst features of so-called debate on this forum. Nothing you have written has any connection with what I have written. The only thing I have failed in so far is getting a rational response from Pope-worshippers and people who make outrageous claims eg the person above who informs us that homosexuals are indulging in selfish hedonistic behaviour, implying that gay people don’t have loving relationships. What planet are you people living on?
I’m living on planet Earth and have done so all my life. Obviously you haven’t been here long, because you haven’t made sense with your use of our language yet. You also seem angry. What happened, did your space ship crash? Missing you alien friends perhaps? Don’t fear, no-one here will hurt you and may even help save you.
Firstly, while you are still acclimatising to our little blue planet, let me inform you about the truth of certain matters, lest you return to where you came from in a thoroughly confused state of mind. I’d better attend to this, otherwise someone might actually tell you to go back where you came from!
There are no “Pope worshippers” on planet earth. Your computers must have malfunctioned as your ship veered off course. The Pope is a leader of the Catholic Church and all its members worship God, who created this planet. Please point us in the direction of they who told you we worship the Pope. They can go with you when you leave.
I would also like to point out to you that I am the person who wrote that homosexuals are indulging in selfish hedonistic behaviour. Your right, I shouldn’t have written that. It was tautological. I should have just said “hedonistic behaviour”, because, after all, hedonism is selfish. You see, even we who have lived here a long time sometimes forget the rules of our language. Never mind, for now that you can see that even grammar has rules you will be able to converse with us a lot more inteligently and to think more clearly about our earthly issues. You see, hedonism is where behaviour is carried out without regard to consequences and pleasure is the sole aim. Homosexuals are notoriously promiscuous and the disease rates amongst them are horrendously high. Many of them carry a virus which is deadly to our life form, but, thankfully, our modern medical knowledge is able to help sufferers. However, a lot of other problems arise from the risky behaviour of homosexuals and is worsening. I hope your planet doesn’t have similar problems. The big problem on earth is that there are is a minority who wants to make the abnormal behaviour of homosexuals normal. No-one’s quite figured out how to make something that’s abnormal normal, except by saying it is. I’m sure that to a space traveller like you, that doesn’t make sense.
Since I joined a few days ago I have observed a similar pattern in these “debates.” Deeply conservative reactionary Catholics pat each other on the back. Then someone chimes in with a relevant question. They get given a sad answer based upon some invalid argument. When they object, they get more of the same. I have just been told by you that I have argued for equivalence between gay and straight relationships. I haven’t.
Invalid arguments? Oh dear, the people you are referring to couldn’t be good Catholics, because the catholic Church is famous for its very coherent and cogent moral philosophy. You should study it in depth while you are here. It’s all based on the teachings of God, who made the whole universe and Natural Law, a lot of which God allows us to discern for ourselves. It’s quite remarkable really and all societies which have recognised it and lived by it have thrived.
Yesterday I was told I couldn’t possibly be concerned about the state of the Liturgy, when I have beeen attending the TLM for years. The first thread I started was a simple question: In view of the fact there are few if any infallible statements on morality how can we be certain what is right or wrong? You seem to be making a concerted effort to learn about and understand the Catholic Church. That’s fabulous. However, you need to do some work on Natural Law and its consequent morality. That underpins the morality of the Church and all of Christianity. Well, it did, until a few thought they knew better and decided to make up their own rules. God even carved the basic rules onto stone tablets to remind us what was important, but some think even those rules needen’t apply anymore. pretty sad, really. Ignore that, get back to the basics and it will all fit together quite nicely. You’ll see.
It is a pefectly reasonable question. The replies I received were mostly along the lines of “Read the Bible”, “It’s in the Cathechism”, “Everything official is without error” and other sad responses. No-one is blaming you if you don’t know any answers or if you are unable to debate, but why call yourselves “Catholic Answers” if you don’t have any answers. I have debated a great deal on the net, and I have had some success arguing against the sceptics on James Randi site (and they are hard nuts to crack), but I would be ashamed to refer anyone to this forum. It seems to me a refuge for sad, reactionary bigotted Pope- worshippers who have too much time on their hands.
Maybe because people haven’t really got too much time on their hands is the reason why they tell you to go do the homework. It is in the Bible and in the Catechism and other places as well, but some you need to think out for yourself. That’s why God gave us a brain each. Yours might think a bit differently, but while you are here, you will cotton on. It’s always hard when you land on a new planet. Just before I forget, if you do come across any “Pope worshippers”, let us know so we can set them straight too. I dunno what the world is coming to sometimes.
