Making Connections with Other Moral Issues​

Now, many Catholic voters realize … Democrats’ refusal to make the least concession to the pro-life cause. They see that abortion is not a single issue but is connected to everything else in the Culture of Death: euthanasia, assisted suicide, homosexuality, transgenderism and even Satanism . . . The radicalized left no longer hides its anti-Catholic moral program…

These Catholics are further alarmed because they see that these anti-life positions will not be optional. Paying for procured abortion and contraception will force them to act against their consciences … force this agenda on an unwilling Catholic sector, still stinging from the lockdown/shutdown of their churches during the COVID crisis.

A Dramatic Clash of Worldviews​

Opposition to procured abortion unites all those who favor a Christian moral order. Abortion has the advantage of being the dividing issue because there can be no compromise. Its evil is evident. There is no such thing as half an abortion. It is always deadly. It necessarily gives rise to a Culture of Death. Thus, abortion serves as the flash of lightning that instantly illuminates other sinister threats lurking in the darkness.

The issue . . . reveals those leftist connections that they would prefer remained hidden. That is why the left hates the abortion issue so much. It forces leftists to … show its true face.

I used to vote liberal. In fact I voted Green party for at least a couple of elections.
I was a typical “brains full of mush” product of American public school.

Well, I see it a lot. #Walkaway is one of them, with thousands of testimonials, and large rallies. There are Unions that where Democrats for decades, who now support Donald Trump. There are politicians who have switched to Republican in the last four years, and I know of at least one Democrat senator that supports President Trump. (I think he is a senator, I can’t remember well) And in my small tiny world, people who voted for Hillary, do not want to vote for Biden, and some will vote for Trump.

So yes there is a lot, plus the support of minorities of President Trump has increased.

That said. White support of President Trump has decreased. Interesting.

My experience has been the opposite. I attended parochial school in the sixties and I was surprised to find how many of my classmates no longer are Catholics or follow Catholic doctrine. Many are divorced, a good minority are gay.

Still, the majority of the people in my class vote Democratic. Some are Trump supporters, mainly those who did not attend college. Obama got a plurality of Catholics twice. Will Trump get the Catholic vote this time? It remains to be seen. The last time most Catholic women voted for Hillary.

You could be right.

But it was true for me.
My neighbor too (who was a Democrat politician for a lot of years) is expressing disgust at the national Democrats for their being all about abortion.

I would guess it is pretty close to the same proportion that are Catholics.

If I read correct. President Trump has increased support from all minorities, but decreased support from whites.
 
I voted for Bill Clinton. I think my last act as a Democrat was to vote for Al Gore. It might have been 9/11 that crystallized my view of partisan politics enough to know I was lingering on the wrong side. I had rejoined the Catholic Church in 2000, and been Confirmed. I heard the pro-life voices, though I was a member of a very heterodox parish. Most importantly, I realized that the Democrats simply didn’t speak for me anymore; they hadn’t done so in a very long time.

My parents are lifelong Democrats, although they cross party lines to vote, “for whoever will do the least damage”. I grew up in a very liberal feminist household. My father is more conservative socially than my mother, although he keeps his mouth shut more often than not. Mom is the vocal one. My dad is the type of person who watches all the news, reads all the newspapers, and as a result, has encyclopedic knowledge of every political candidate and issue, major, minor, and insignificant.

I grew up pretty apolitical. I liked nightclubs and women. Voting was an afterthought for me. When I rejoined the Church in 2000, my vote ceased to be self-serving and became a tool for the common good. I vote my conscience, but I vote according to the Church’s needs, not my own. I use voter guides published by the state Catholic Conference and other conservative think tanks. If a liberal candidate would serve the Church better than a conservative one, then I’ll vote for her, but I haven’t met one yet.

Disregard Breitbart. Turmp’s support among blacks has gone from miniscule to very small.

“In a poll in January, the Washington Post found that about 83% of Black Americans consider Trump racist and think he’s exacerbated U.S. racial tensions. A Quinnipiac University poll this week found that the same percentage of likely Black voters support Joe Biden for president, while just 10% support Trump.”
