I have realized that in about the past month or so-actually more than that, there hasn’t been anything in the news about Pope Benedict. Does anyone know why?

I have actually been thinking the same thing recently. I don’t know why.

If nothing controversial is said, I doubt the Media will cover it.

He’s not the hot item that JPII was. The novelty of a non-Italian Pope, and from Poland at that, guaranteed plenty of press coverage.

Do you remember the news mentioning that some nuns came from Poland specially to cook for JPII and the news gave his favorite dishes? For all we know from the papers, B16 doesn’t even eat at all. And we all knew what an athlete JPII was, a hiker, a good skier, etc, and he insisted on the Vatican putting in a swimming pool. B16? We don’t even know if he walks across St. Peter’s Square for exercise.

One was glamorous, the other not.

I don’t know what news you get but it’s been full of things - for two days now the meeting with the Orthodox has been written up everywhere in both secular and religious media, the announcement of the summer schedule for visitors to Rome, the Feast of St. Peter and Paul and giving the pallium to his bishops, it’s like anything else, the pope doesn’t make secular news every minute unless its “contentious” – you do have to read the sources that cover religion to keep abreast of the churches and that includes other churches as well as our own.

That sir is your opinion, B16 is glamourous to me and JPII was star quality. We also do know about how his walks were curtailed by the security officers who at one point prior to his installation just about forced him into a car from the street – his life and daily routine have changed dramatically and I’d like to add, since the man has barely gotten the throne of Peter warm, perhaps a bit more time for all of the details you seem to want to know. There will be profile after profile of him written, speculated about and when they don’t have first hand news, they make up a lot.

I have to agree with you about JPII. B16 is too, as the Poles put it, “warm noodles” for me.

I tend to lean towards the “no controversial issues” side instead…I mean, just look at the media, their favorite thing to cover is controversy.

There’s plenty of news about our Holy Father! You just need to know where to look:

EWTN!

Zenit!

If you do a search on Yahoo! News, you can find plenty. They even have current pictures in a slideshow.

Vatican Radio, 105 Live…plenty there.

Read his books and get to know him! Try Milestones, published by Ignatius Press. There you’ll find out while not an athlete, he did plenty of hiking.

I’ve also read “The Rise of Benedict XVI” by National Catholic Reporter contributor John L. Allen, Jr. I enjoyed it very much! And there’s plenty of other good biographies. Read for yourself!
