OK listen,
i don’t believe that any of the saints should speak out against any form of the church. especially just for the sake of speaking out. i don’t believe in denominationalism because i think it just causes seperation. why don’t we all just focus on the task at hand which is walking in righteousness and preaching the good news of the gospel to those who are of the world. God bless
AMEN!!!👍

Exactly, there shouldnt be an denominations, just One Church- Holy Catholic and Apostolic.

There is a BIG difference between “speaking out against” a person (a Protestant) and Protestantism, a theological system. It’s a lot better to explain why we believe Catholic teaching, then to simply start bashing another belief system, or to start bashing other people, alive or dead.

Christ founded the Church on Peter and promised him that not even the gates of the Netherworld would prevail against it. that is one of the main reason i decided to convert to the Church. so why can’t/don’t Catholics speak out against other churches? to me, Protestants are calling Christ a liar by starting their own church since most claim that the Church fell into error or are teaching error. I could go to church with my baptist grandmother and the preacher will put down the Church all day long, but when i go to mass or even my RCIA class, they never mention the Protestants and won’t say that they are the ones in fact that are in error. they usually say something to the effect of “the body of Christ is broken enough.” or something like that if I bring it up. thanks.
I know from personal experience that there are as many Catholics as Protestants that speak out against the other church. When I went to RCIA the teacher as well as the priest put down the Protestants just as much as the Protestant preacher put down the Catholics. It is true that the body is broken enough. We need unity in the church. I don’t like anyone putting anyoneelse down. That is one reason why I call myself non-denominational.

Wo, hold everybody’s horses. There’s a lot of junk being rattled around this thread. Protestantism is still and has been since its beginning a heresy of the Catholic church. Vatican II did not change this.

It has been 500 years since the unfortunate divide and many non-Catholic Christians honestly believe in their hearts that their faith is the right one. The church recognizes that most of the non-Catholic Christians today are so out of no fault of their own. Because of birth, culture, or even false witness, they continue to be out of union with the Church. They are considered Christ’s body as well by the Catholic Church.

We Catholics are expected to be kind but are also expected to share the truth when the opportunity arises. God willing, we can bring them back into the fullness of the faith.
Agreed - we can’t accept that the Protestants are wrong - and they are wrong - unfortunately for many Protestants (and my entire family is a good example), they are ignorant of the truth of the Catholic Church. Its not the same issue as it was at the Reformation when people were willingly rebelling against the Catholic Church - today, generation after generation have evolved in Protestantism to the point where they can no longer look backwards and see any sign of Catholicism left in their faith - but this is not a willing rebellion against the Church - and as I am sure many have seen, when these sorts of Protestants act out against the Church, they usually do it with a great misconception about what we truly believe - I believe this is why we are really called to dialogue with them, to bring them back home (every person’s goal should be to come back to the Church, as it was God’s plan for all to be saved) - that being said, Catholics should never take a step backwards in embracing evangalization - we should always progress forward, teaching the FULL truth, and not giving in to untruths.

Peace.

it seems that no one get’s it. forget a denomonation. the bible didn’t say anything about catholics or protestants. just praise jesus. im non-denominational but i love catholics and i love protestants and lutherans, baptist, and any other faith because god said to love your neighbor. in my opinion denominations are just names that cause seperation. i mean, come on saints just love god with all your heart and walk in worship. thats what the bible says. peace.

I agree with you on loving one another, but I disagree with you that denominations are all about names. It is about our faith to the Truth. Because of the differences in faith, we have caused the separation.

i agree with you totally water and im sorry about my wordplay. you said exactly what i wanted to say. if all the saints just stick to the word there wont be any room for seperation. stick to the word. line up what you do with the word of god and thats always a safe bet. i know people from a bunch of different denominations that walk in righteousness. if i am a baptist and you are a catholic but we are both walking righteously in the eyes of the lord then why does it matter?

That’s true and it is a good reason to look back to the history and find out what the reasons were to cause the separation and how it affects the Christianity today.

I should do some research on that. Do you have any information how it happened at the time of the emperor Constantine?

Amen, i myself certianly find that denominations breaking from the CC in the past have caused so much of confusion and believes among the inter Christianity community. However no matter which denomination you’re from, it is even more crucial to have a heart to serve God then anything else. Failure to that, no matter which denomination you’re in, it is just an empty jug.

Oh good…now when I stand before the Lord… I can say

“Lord, you gave us Your Church, but I followed the ‘slightly different’ theological teachings of John Walsh, or Calvin, or some other man… (even Muhammed maybe). But I was righteous, so it does not matter.”

“Lord, you gave us Your Sacraments, but I choose to follow my own or my pastor’s interpretation of the Book which Your Church gave to the world. Afterall, we are right some of the time. But I was walking in my faith, and I was looked upon as righteous… so it does not matter”

“Lord, I think that all life is sacred, I rhink that marriage is forever. But my minister told me different things about contraception, fertilization, and remarriage, and only those Catholics have stuck by the unchanging teaching on life and marriage. So, we can be wrong on a few items, but we are right on all the others (at least the ones I think are important to me…I think, I hope…). So as long as we are mostly righteous, I won’t have to answer for the mistakes, and therefore what does it matter.”

“Lord, I know that there are tough instructions in the Bible of the Catholic Church, and I know that You are the only authority that matters, but I prefer not to adhere to that authority which the Catholic Church protects until Your return… afterall, as long as I am righteous, what does it matter?”

“And finally, Lord, I have accepted you as my personal Savior, sort of… and if I die right this second, I am confident that I am righteous and perfect to enter heaven… good thing there is no purgatory… so let me in now.”

Works for me at work… I give my employer the 8 hours I think I owe him… and then do my thing.

Good thing my employee manuel does not say or infer that I must serve with my whole heart, my whole mind, and my whole strength.

If I had to do that, I would have to remain only in the place of employement which He built, and work only according to His instructions either directly or as handed on through His supervisors whom He gave authority to… even when He has gone home…until He returns.

But the guy in the mail room has some good ideas.

And the maintenance guy does too.

And the supply clerk is an awesome worker.

Hi MrS

Pardon me for my igorant, i don’t understand where you’re coming from based on the abv mentioned?? Can you elaborate??

In response to MrS’s post, I would pose this question: if Catholicism contains the fullness of faith, and Catholics are called to “welcome people back home,” why aren’t they creating more Catholic parishes and proactively evangelizing?

There are approximately 80,000 folks in the city I live in, and only 4 Catholic parishes.

I think something to bear in mind in this thread is just what Protestants think about the Catholic Church and Catholic people in general. Having just been recently banned for defending the faith, I suggest you go to rr-bb.com and see what those Protestants think of us. Of course, that’s a Fundamentalist board. If you want to know what a more mainline Protestant church thinks of us, go to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church website at wels.org.

Sadly, I think many Catholics delude themselves (or wishful thinking, I suppose) into thinking that Protestants have at least a respectful attitude towards Catholics. Most don’t!! Go to their websites, search “pope” or “Catholic Church” or even “anti-Christ.” You will then come to understand their true feelings towards our Church.

I was trying to make a few points…

1] While you are right, you/we certainly must have a heart which serves God, He also wants mind and soul and strength. Not fair, perhaps, to fool our separated brethren into thinking that their heart-for-God will suffice. Compromise, division, essentials-is-enough, do not IMHO portray a heart-for-God.

2] The comparison to the employee was just a thought about “working” for God. The Catholic Church, again IMHO, works 24/7 and has the heirarchy authorized by God which will see that it survives. Our protestant brethren are certainly in the company (members of the Body of Christ), but they want to be in charge… like the maintenance guy, the copy room person etc.
Protestantism shares one thing in all its denominations… rejects of the Authority of the Church… which leads to perhaps working for the Boss part time… and working against the Boss the majority of the time.
