Why not speak out against Protestants?

Christ founded the Church on Peter and promised him that not even the gates of the Netherworld would prevail against it. that is one of the main reason i decided to convert to the Church. so why can’t/don’t Catholics speak out against other churches? to me, Protestants are calling Christ a liar by starting their own church since most claim that the Church fell into error or are teaching error. I could go to church with my baptist grandmother and the preacher will put down the Church all day long, but when i go to mass or even my RCIA class, they never mention the Protestants and won’t say that they are the ones in fact that are in error. they usually say something to the effect of “the body of Christ is broken enough.” or something like that if I bring it up. thanks.

Because its not very popular to say that protestants might be wrong (never mind bringing up the fact that they fall under the category of heretics).

I am for Christian unity. I do not for a minute doubt that the Catholic Church is the Church that Jesus wanted us to be in-because of the direct line of St. Peter and the institution of the Eucharist. But I also think that whenever two people are praying, there is a church. So I do not down other denominations, I just pray that they might be able to see the light of truth and be able to participate in the Sacraments fully-for their spiritual health and growth.

Isn’t that wrong though? that’s what’s wrong with the secualr world. everything is being “accepted” because you don’t won’t to offend. that’s bull. if a Catholic started to preach the benefits of say, homosexuality, wouldn’t you rebuke them? likewise, if a protestant said “you don’t really need to eat the body or drink the blood of Christ to have life within you” wouldn’t you rebuke them? i would think that is what God would want. if 30,000 protestant churches all teach different ideas isn’t it the duty of a follower of Christ to say “you, my friend, are wrong”?

The present Holy Father has continued his predecessor’s practice, in particular toward the Jewish people in one of the earliest acts of his pontificate. Note also his visit last fall to Turkey.

The Catechism covers the matter well. See the section entitled “The Church is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic,” followed by parts I The Church is One, II. The Church is Holy, III. The Church is Catholic, and IV.The Church is Apostolic.

Part III The Church is Catholic includes sections on Who belongs to the Catholic Church, and The Church and non-Christians.

I don’t think Non-Christians belong to the Church. They are not baptized. To be a member of the Church, they have to be baptize.

Yes, you are correct in saying that.

It is one thing to open dialogues with protestants and work with them to promote universal Christian ideals- it is quite another thing altogather to forget the True Faith and our duty to evangelize all non-Catholics.

Too many Catholics today are sinking into the heresy of relativism.

i’m new here! so i was just reading your little conversation and was wondering where in the Bible Jesus said that Peter was to found the “Catholic Church”.

so i go to a baptist, methodist, and two non-demoninational churches but no catholic churches for me. does that make me a Protestant? i think it does. if so does that mean i’m a heretic? i also think it does. but if i’m a heretic then why does God accept me and why did He give me the Holy Spirit? i was just wondering if the catholic church is the ONLY church God wants us to go to then why does He show Himself at other churches? what do you guys think?

All non-Catholic Christians are in varying levels of communion with the Catholic Church (even if they dont like to think), yet it is wrong to think of them as being in the Church in the same way you or I am.

Also, it must be a Trinitarian Baptism- ie. the person must be Baptized in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

I am old enough (over 70) to remember the relationships between protestants and Catholics well before Vatican II. They were often non-existent. World War II came along and then Korea. Protestants and Catholics shared foxholes,barracks, and danger. We learned there were real people outside of our self imposed ghettos. It got very hard to continue to treat each other as some form of sub-human or vermin. One may blame it all on political correctness, but I think that most of us have learned that we have more in common than we have in opposition. Want to defend your Faith one- on- one, do it, but do so respectfully. Protestants do not consider converting when Catholics treat them like some sort of religous sub-human.

Christ’s promise did not fail. We are one, united by the essentials. I am glad the Catholic church clarified itself in Vatican II and cleared up many of the misconceptions about what some of the earlier Popes said. There is no need to evangelize your fellow believers.

We can add Non-Catholic Christians, but not Non-Christians. Non Christians aren’t baptized in the Trinitarian formula. That as far as I can take it.

I would not consider a Hindu a part of the Catholic Church, or a Buddhist. They aren’t…

There is only one true Chuch- the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church under the visible leadership of the Roman Pontiff. This is the Church established by Christ Who made St. Peter and his glorious successors the visible leaders of the Church.

If you were Baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, you were cleansed of original sin. But you were not given the Gifts of the Holy Spirit which are conferred through the Sacrament of Confirmation by a Bishop.

Also, God does not “show Himself at other churches”, for there is One True Church- the Catholic Church. All other “churches” are but schismatic sects of the Catholic Church that teach heresies in varying degrees.

It has been 500 years since the unfortunate divide and many non-Catholic Christians honestly believe in their hearts that their faith is the right one. The church recognizes that most of the non-Catholic Christians today are so out of no fault of their own. Because of birth, culture, or even false witness, they continue to be out of union with the Church. They are considered Christ’s body as well by the Catholic Church.

We Catholics are expected to be kind but are also expected to share the truth when the opportunity arises. God willing, we can bring them back into the fullness of the faith.

Im curious to know what you guys(catholics) think of John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that **whosoever believeth **in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jhn 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that **the world **through him might be saved.

Jhn 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

These are all very general statements. None of them say you have to belong to the CC to be saved. All it says is that you have to believe in Jesus Christ. I actually am one of the whosoever’s in John 3:16 and I have never been catholic. How do you reconcile that with some thoughts going around here?
