Hi everyone. I am just curious. Why shouldn’t one be Anglican/Episcopalian other than the reason given that they do not have valid apostolic succession? What other reasons are there to not be Anglican/Episcopalian? 🤷

Aren’t there issues within the Anglican Church over the True and Real presence of our Lord in the Eucharist??

“Anglicans generally and officially believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, but the specifics of that belief range from Transubstantiation or Metousiosis, sometimes with Eucharistic adoration (mainly Anglo-Catholics or High-Church Anglicans), to something akin to a belief in a “pneumatic” presence (many Broad-Church Anglicans). A small minority reject the doctrine of the Real Presence altogether (Mainly Low-Church Anglicans).”

I personally wouldn’t want to belong to a church in which the core belief and substance of worship was muddy, everyone ought to be on the same page, the page in which Christ is REALLY there. Just my opinion based upon what I’ve heard… I’m open to contradictions, but as far as I personally know, there is a questioning spirit amongst Anglicans.

Yes, you are correct. Not all Anglicans accept the Real Presence. That said, that is a pretty good reason to not be Anglican. I guess some other reasons would be female bishops/priests, blessing of gay unions, and the use of birth control.

One need only read Patristic writings from Early Fathers to see the original instructions as handed down orally from Jesus and Apostles down to the leaders and members of the Church and in succeeding Church Councils. If we only followed faithfully our Early Fathers, none of these heresies and errors would have happened.

Why wouldn’t this be sufficient?

It’s not the Catholic Church, therefore it is incomplete and teaches erroneously. No other reason needed.

Well, from both the Catholic p.o.v. and the Orthodox p.o.v., Anglicanism is not the one true Church. (The Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church each consider themselves to be the one true Church.)

Besides that, there are of course a lot of recent reasons not to be Anglican.

Orthodox use this same logic when considering either the Anglican or Papal Catholic church.

I don’t agree with using the term “Papal Catholic Church”, but I think I can understand where Hesychios is coming from: some posters have recently told us not to use the term “Roman Catholic Church” to refer to all those who are in full communion with Pope Benedict XVI. Perhaps Hesychios is attempting to comply with that request.

Thank you Peter.

That happens to be the case.

I would use the term Roman Catholic, and as anyone can see that is a widely used term even by Catholics under the Pope. Some of my greatest critics as well as some of my dearest friends will identify with the term.

But any number of people have objected to “Roman” as either too limited in scope or an inappropriate moniker to apply to other types of Catholics under the Pope. Even moreso the designation “Latin” and I can see why. I had hoped the term “Papal” with Catholic would be a satisfactory alternative, applying to every Sui Juris church and every ritual/spiritual tradition under the authority of the office of the Bishop of Rome, the “Papacy”, but It appears not to be so satisfactory after all.

Well from a Protestant perspective, if I were not Methodist, I WOULD be Anglican(an offshot, probably not Episcopal itself). So I personally think you COULD do a lot worse 😃

I grew up in the Anglican ecclesial community. After attending Catholic Mass for about 15 years I finally decided to convert. The main reason? Teaching authority.
(The Anglican church can’t show the world consistent teaching for doctrine or morality. I was taught the ways of ‘low church’ … Holy Communion was just symbolic. Today, Anglicans have no firm teaching on sexual mores for instance. In the Roman Catholic Church one can always search out orthodox Roman Catholic priests when in the Catechism of the Catholic Church isn’t sufficient for one’s questions.)
My journey taught me that the Anglicans lost the Apostolic succession and thus the Real Presence. How sad.😦
I hope my rambling adds a little light.
Reg.

Maybe you should just call us “the one true Church”. 😛

😃

Because, IMO, Anglicanism/Episcopaliniasm stands for everything and nothing. It cannot be a “true” Church in any sense. I doubt that they even have a concept of absolute truth.

😃

It helps to keep a sense of humor when discussing religion. 🙂
Yes. My sense of humor helps to put up with you who refuse to call us “the one true Church”. I just say to myself, “No big deal, they’ll know better some day. Then won’t they be embarrassed!” 😃

Blessings,
Peter (a member of the one true Church).

The Anglican/Episopelian Church came into being over politics. Not over a disagreement in theolgy, but for political and personal reasons. That should be reason enough to avoid it.

My sister is Episcoplian, I have attended funeral services at a Episcopal Church. But after talking with my sister in length regarding Anglican theology, well no direspect but they seem "confused’ they have more questions than answers. I will say one thing for them they sure are a friendly lot. 🙂
