Whatever…

If you chose to “sweat the small stuff” and lost sight of what was most important… again, “whatever”…

If you try hard enough you can justify just about anything…😦
Giving the response “Whatever” is dismissive and sounds like something my teenage daughter might say, with a heavy, disrespectful sigh and roll of the eyes.

It’s not the mature, well thought out response of a spritually mature adult.
My fellow Catholic brothers and sisters… it’s just hard for anyone who has a brain and loves God, truly desiring to follow Him, instead of making up excuses not do so, to take “at peace” as a serious person. When he or she rests “in peace,” will they be “at peace”? It’s their choice, and ultimately they will have to answer for rejecting the Church Christ built and protects, in favor of his or her view that they are smarter than God. Such is the plight of the arrogant. We know that God hides His Kingdom in plain sight from the arrogant. It’s with humility that we come to see Christ, and His beautiful Kingdom laid out in front of us. God bless all of you faithful Catholics. Your love of Christ and faithfulness to His established Church will not go unrewarded.

I can better serve Christ outside of the Church. I see many good people who do this. Many people tire of the constant political machinations they encounter in church parishes and congregations, be they Catholic or Protestant. **

you know at peace, the SS warns of this kind of feelings. SS tells only those who persevere until the end will have eternal life.
SS also warns us that towards the end the faith of many will grow cold. i see a lot of that happened.

but if you think that you are going to be better off doing something else the decision is yours.

Not quite understanding your post. Can you rephrase it more simply?

I thought the SS was a Nazi organization, is there a new meaning to this abbreviation?

Even within the Catholic Church there is a divergence of opinions on correct living. The Catechism does hedge on some things. But, most Christian sects agree on traditional morality of living, such as working hard for ones own honest living, taking care of the weak and powerless, causing no harm, being sexually chaste, not over indulging in food or drink, respecting elders and parents. Basically, the 10 commandments remain good rules of living.
Kindly, I’m not asking how other, or even most, people define these things.
I’m asking specifically how you define them?
By what standard?
Is scripture a part of that or do I gather from your post above that we have a general agreement on morality?

Even within Christianity we see a variance of ideas in ‘taking care of the weak and powerless’/‘causing no harm’ (abortion), ‘being sexually chaste’ (homosexuality, even in the clergy).

Following the 10 commandments, I agree, is a good way to live, but is this all that Jesus asks of us?

Cheers!

michel

In traditional morality and rules of healthy living I would catagorize myself as far above the national average, probably in the top 10% based on the decadence I see in society today. I don’t think I need to discuss my idea of proper living issue by issue here on this thread in order to justify myself.

The post is completely understandable to anyone who honestly seeks to do so.
Actually, your post sounded rather disjointed. If you would kindly rephrase it more straightforwardly and clearly I will understand it better.

Christians, as wisdomseeker is, know this as an abbreviation for Sacred Scriptures.
Oh really? I have never heard that abbreviation in my life and I am a Christian. Is this internet slang?

I’m not surprised by that comment. However, it is clear and understandable… oh, sorry…, there is the typical assumption that the reader had some basic understanding in place. Yes, I see, you’re confirming what I wrote about anyone who had a brain and who loved God… Well, it was written to my fellow Catholics, of whom each one I’ve known here has possessed these two.

If you don’t understand, and it’s not addressed to you, then I don’t know how to help you. Only God can, if you’re willing to let Him.

it is most used by Catholics. if you were really a Catholic once you would know this.

it is apparently to me you never been a Catholic.

I think the intelligent money would be that it’s an abbreviation, and more specifically and initialism. This is a casual conversation on a board, not a paper to be published by a council. However, I don’t think slang really fits as well as initialism.

It also depends on how the mind works… for instance determining things from context…, being in the context it was in, and knowing he was talking about Christ and Christianity, how does one come up with SS being related to the Nazi’s? It was not a WWII discussion. If one can’t determine a likely meaning of an initialism from obvious context, even not having heard the initialism before, then how can even begin to think that one could interpret something much more important, like Sacred Scriptures (SS) properly? Even if I had never heard this initialism, Nazi’s are about as far from a context of Christ and Christianity as I can imagine.

I don’t know whether you really are a Christian as you claim or not… and if you are, then strong or weak… certainly we see no evidence of Christian strength demonstrated from you…

What an unpleasant statement, you should be ashamed of yourself. It comes across as extremely condescending and presumptuous.

How old are you?

Maybe she came up with the negative connotation of SS, because of all the nasty replies to her post.

That abbreviation has never been used in my church, it must be specific to internet discussions such as this.

I sense that this discussion is attracting some of the forum’s younger readers…

Thanks. I was trying to have a philosophical, respectful discussion, not engaging in insult throwing comments and retorts.
