Why Organized Religion is a Problematic Way to Grow Closer to God.

Many current religions, including Chrisitianity and its varying sects, originally sprang up in opposition to the organized religion of the day. Buddhaism arose out the corruption of Hinduism, Christianity out of that of the Jews, Protestantism was a response to the failings of the Catholic Church, and some of the newer forms of Chrisitanity sprang from stagnant Mainline Protestant Churches.
I’m sorry you feel this way about the Church. By your logic it seems to me you are falling into the slipery slope fallacy, in other words, if your assumptions are correct, then you should not attend ANY church, since like you said, it can be considered ‘Organized Religion.’ While this may seem like a good way to live out your faith in Jesus, waking up on Sunday morning and saying ‘Oh My God!’ does not constitute in going to Church.

On a more serious note, as a follower of Christ you have an obligation of going to Church, therefore, your arguments of organized religion are incorrect, in my humble opinion.

Even within the Catholic Church there is a divergence of opinions on correct living. The Catechism does hedge on some things. But, most Christian sects agree on traditional morality of living, such as working hard for ones own honest living, taking care of the weak and powerless, causing no harm, being sexually chaste, not over indulging in food or drink, respecting elders and parents. Basically, the 10 commandments remain good rules of living.
Do you honestly believe that when you are dealing with more than ONE BILLION people from a multitude of nations and races that you are not going to have some “divergence”…often caused by cultural and racial differences?

Where doe the Catechism “hedge”…? Please illuminate us on this?

And what makes you think that Catholic’s standards of living are an exception to any other denominations?

Please don’t try to use “isolated incidents” as justifications for wholesale judgements.

Thanks. I was trying to have a philosophical, respectful discussion, not engaging in insult throwing comments and retorts.
Really? I have seen at least three instances that belie your statement.

At present, all I see is that you have tried vainly to attract people to your agenda, and due to the lack of substance of your hypothesis you are losing ground steadily…and the apparent result is that you are heading for the cesspool of “victim-hood” in a vainglorious grab at sympathy.

In all honesty, all that I have seen is this: You fired a “broadside” with an inane expectation that many would align themselves with your mini-diatribe/thesis…and since that hasn’t happened…and you have not received your desired result… you retreat into playing the “victim”.

And what makes you think that Catholic’s standards of living are an exception to any other denominations?
Haha…cause you guys have Irish whiskey and pasta, and we have beer and bratwurst. Jahvol!

What an unpleasant statement, you should be ashamed of yourself. It comes across as extremely condescending and presumptuous.

How old are you?
I suppose the truth is indeed sometimes unpleasant to those who find themselves on the wrong side of things.

Some people do not grow in the right direction as time passes, and so why does age qualify or disqualify one? I think you’re an example of this, certainly going in the wrong direction. I’m wise enough to easily see what you say and do. If what I say is accurate, then how is it condescending? After all, it’s not me who can’t understand the meaning of simple sentences, nor determine an initialism from obvious context.

Perhaps a little projection as well, as this presumptuousness is an MO (mode of operation) you’ve demonstrated. I’ll explain and pray that you’ll understand. Being presumptuous is disrespectful, or overconfident, especially in doing something when not entitled or qualified to do it. I’d say that fits exactly what you’re doing in leaving the Church Christ established, because you somehow “know better.” I can tell you without a doubt that you’re not better qualified than the Catholic Church to lead yourself to salvation, if salvation is even what you want.

Maybe she came up with the negative connotation of SS, because of all the nasty replies to her post.
Would it be proper to equate SS interpretation of Nazism with Catholicism, even if one gets upset with another?

Haha…cause you guys have Irish whiskey and pasta, and we have beer and bratwurst. Jahvol!
Nein, mein Brudder!! Ich globische eine Weiss Bier mit Bratwurst is viel besser… Zie habiche niche uber uns!! or would that be “mir”?

I never thought whiskey and pasta went together, but a really good Cabernet…or a good Valipocella… ummmmm, “schmechts gut!!”

Was ist mehr besser…eine guttes Rheinhessen! Und eine portion “spatzel”…ummmmmmm!!

😃 Right about now I wish I could figure out how to change my keyboard to “German”…and remember what I used to know, German-wise… I lived in Bavaria seven and a half years… uummmmmmmmmmmm, bratwurst and weiss bier…ummmmm!

That abbreviation has never been used in my church, it must be specific to internet discussions such as this.

I sense that this discussion is attracting some of the forum’s younger readers…
Hark, we are moving closer to the abyss… Do I sense an “ad hominem” on the horizon?

It’s just an attempt to unjustly denigrate, when they know they don’t have a legitimate leg to stand on.

it is most used by Catholics. if you were really a Catholic once you would know this.

it is apparently to me you never been a Catholic.
I confess, that despite the circumlocution employed, I was off-put at first by the abbreviation/acronym…but I fathomed it out. Perhaps it is generational in application… maybe perhaps?🤷 But I’ve been a Catholic for 57 years and 11 months and 14 days…😃

😃

(Pssst…Do you think it part it may be due to some “preemptivenss” on my part in the beginning?) (Keep it on the “down low”…ok?)

So if you’re confirming that you did this to get back at others for a real or imagined wrongdoing, then how is associating the word Nazi with a Catholic’s discussion of the Church and Christ, “not engaging in insult throwing.”

You’ve never tried whisky with pasta? It’s actually not half bad. I agree wine is probably more appropriate.

And you left Germany???

Thanks for the discussion, you may continue amongst yourselves, I think any further attempt is an exersise in futility.

Not by choice…would have happily stayed there forever…but I was there as a child in 56’ to 60’…Dad was Army, and I was stationed there in 74’ to 77’. As a child I lived in Bamberg, and as an adult in Herzogenaurach… Still have friends there!!

Awesome…must have been a blast. I don’t have a drop of German in me, but I’d love to vacation there for a few decades.

At least the Cardinals got it right by electing a German.
