Planned Parenthood of Indiana-Kentucky has closed its Fort Wayne clinic, citing harassment as the cause. It may be true that a Christian organization from Ohio used some harsh tactics that were found not to constitute legal harassment, but the the real reason is more telling.
It was, in my opinion, the very best reason for closing–lack of interest by the population they claimed to serve. Client visits had dropped by more than 40%. This office never performed abortions, but referred women to a doctor from Illinois who visited his own clinic one day per week. That stopped when his clinics in Fort Wayne and South Bend were closed for multiple serious violations of health regulations about infection control, expired drugs being used, and failure to promptly report abortions for minors below the age of consent. This prevented use of evidence that would prove the identity of the father who would be guilty of statutory rape or worse. These clinics were very much in the mold of the backstreet abortionists that abortion proponents claim are the main reason they support legal abortion, unless, of course, they can make some money off it.
This was a case where the advice, “follow the money” rings true. Without the revenue coming in from abortion referrals to a disgraced doctor who lost his license, the other services they provide could not keep the doors open.
