Why Respectfully toward Protestants and Rude to Mean toward Mormons

Those other threads don’t really matter. Seeing another Catholic tell someone that the RCC doesn’t want them and calling them a disgrace is a horrible thing to read in these forums.

Regardless of past posts, I think turning the other cheek, charity and love should always be present.
I agree that comment was out of line, but so is the behavior of the OP, and goes to his/her credibility, so yes the other threads do matter.

You will see a pattern of “pronouncements”, and not someone who wants to engage in a dialog of any type.

It is more likely that the OP is a troll, and is just trying to work people up. Which isn’t exactly Christian behavior now is it?

I can and will dialog with anyone, but honesty and a willingness to communicate is key. The OP has not demonstrated those qualities at all.

“Re: Why Respectfully toward Protestants and Rude to Mean toward Mormons”

Because the Mormon “religion” isn’t a religion at all, it is a fabricated fantasy contrived by someone (Joseph Smith) who was kicked out of the Freemasons for his polygamous views. Mormonism has just about as much relevance and credibility as Scientology, another false “religion” concocted by a science-fiction author.

I apologize for this seemingly rude post but I can’t be kind about this. By adhering to such false faiths and doctrines, you are gambling with your immortal soul and that is something so incredibly precious, our human minds are unable to grasp the magnitude of a soul’s worth to God.

It is important that we always keep in mind what the Church teaches. She does not teach that anyone is not welcome.

For the poster with the sick comments, so what I was a Protestant in the past. There is nothing about being disgraceful about being a Mormon. I could never be loyal in Catholicism.

I have no concerns about being converted by my Catholic friends. They know I am to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Are you for real?

LoL!

When you get a chance can you let me know where Kolob is?
Let’s start there.
thanks.

I agree that we shouldn’t be rude. I like having conversations with Mormon missionaries, myself.

However, there is a basic reason why Catholics and Protestants treat each other differently than either of us treats Mormons. Catholics and Protestants, for all our differences, believe in the Trinity. We believe in a single eternal God existing in three Persons, and we believe that there is an infinite, qualitative difference of nature between God and humanity. Many of us believe in deification by grace, but we do not believe that humans are beings of the same basic kind as God. We also do not believe in public revelation after the writing of the last book of the NT canon and/or the death of the original Apostles. These are basic differences between us and you. We recognize each other as belonging to the same Faith, even though we interpret that Faith differently (well, Catholics officially recognize us in this way–unfortunately, some ultra-conservative Protestants don’t return the favor, and you can find overzealous Catholics on these forums who speak equally harshly of Protestants). We cannot recognize you in this way. Most of us believe that you should be regarded as a substantially different religion. (The concrete expression of this is that we do not generally recognize the validity of your baptisms.) That doesn’t mean that we should be rude to you. It doesn’t mean that we don’t recognize that there are many good and true things in what you believe. But you have departed from historic Christianity in a way that makes the differences between Catholics and Protestants trivial by comparison.

Keep in mind, I never said that anyone wasn’t welcome.
Oops. I meant to direct that towards Ricko’s post. What I meant to say to you was that calling the OP a troll and being critical of his Christianity doesn’t exactly address what he’s saying in his post, which I think would be a better thing to do, IMHO. 🙂
Fact is we don’t want you in the Catholic Church. You have posted many lies about yourself, in one claiming to be a Catholic, in another claiming to be a Protestant. You also started a thread with the title that says Vatican II says that the Catholic Church is not the true church. You lied about that too as you could not post the statement from Vatican II.

You can stay in the LDS sir, we don’t want you and you have no worry about someone trying to convert you.

You are even a disgrace to the LDS.

How about this: Because the Catholic religion isn’t a religion at all, it is a fabricated fantasy contrived by people who wanted to gain power. Catholicism has just about as much relevance and credibility as Scientology, another false religion concocted by a sience fiction author…

I apologize  for this seemingly rude post but I can’t be kind about this. By adhering to such false faiths and doctrines, you are gambling with your imortal soul and that is something so incredibly precious, our human minds are unable to grasp the magnitude of a soul’s worth to god. And so, I hope that you will be born again and be saved., 🙂

Sounds awful doesn’t it??

While I have never intentionally been rude to any evangelist (half my family are Jehovah’s Witnesses! Have fun at that family reunion… ), I have found that a faith that is heavily dependent on “saving” souls creates a mindset which engenders rudeness. On more than one occasion, I have had evangelists at my door who have been politely told that I am not interested tell me flat out that if I don’t listen to what they have to say I am destined for hell.

Now, I interpret this in two ways: one, they are genuinely concerned. I find such concern touching, yet annoying. Or, two, and this is probably more common, they are attempting to use fear to get me to let them in my house (they have probably convinced themselves that this purposefully deceptive technique is concern in the process).

The only time I have ever encountered Mormon missionaries will be remembered as one of the most miserable conversations I have ever had with anyone. I actually let them in my house. I actually sat there and listened to them. And when I attempted to counter anything they said, they interrupted and told me I was lying, or that the Pope was lying, or that I was, in general, in desperate need of being saved. After a while, I realized the first mistake was ever letting them inside to begin with and I requested that they leave. After they resisted (very strongly, I will add), I grabbed my roommate’s copy of the Satanic Bible and threatened to start discussing that piece of work with them if they didn’t leave. I don’t know why I didn’t threaten the police, but Anton LaVey got them moving pretty quickly.

So, just so we’re straight, the only Mormons I’ve ever had direct contact with have been some of the rudest people I’ve met. And I haven’t come across a topic started by a Mormon or claiming to be a Mormon on this forum that has been particularly convivial either. So, I guess you can answer your own question, OP, with some self reflection.

Because Protestants respect diversity in belief, and the longevity of the Catholic Church, and its repository of tradition. Because Mormons do not respect the above. Mormons believe that refusal to convert is rudeness in itself.

I tend to doubt that two young mormon missionaries would say to you that the pope is lying. If they did they would be disciplined by the mission president. No missionary is told to say that the pope or any religious leader is a liar. So, I tend to doubt your story but I am not calling you a liar.

And the mormons on this forum have shown politeness on the mormon threads that have been started by catholics. But the catholics on the other hand, have shown just the opposite. Now not all of them, but quite a few have. Have you noticed?

Why would even allow the satanic bible in the same room with you?

I agree that being rude is unnecessary. Though I’ve read about the Mormon Church, I have talked to but a few - we usually get Jehovah’s Witnesses at our door.

That is because, the hard truth is, no one considers Mormons to be Orthodox Christians except for Mormons.
Mormons do not consider themselves to be “Orthodox Christians.”

Just Christians.

There is quite a bit about out doctrine that is not orthodox, or Orthodox. That’s OK. “Orthodox” =/= 'correct,"
I guess I am at a loss as to why you are here then. I am also not a Roman Catholic but I am here to learn. I am open to the possibility that the Roman Catholic church is correct. If at any point I became convinced otherwise, I would leave the board rather than waste my time arguing. If your only reason for being here is to argue or purposely post items that will cause an arugment, then yes, it will start grating on people’s nerves after awhile and patiences will start wearing thin and when that happens, people might start getting a little rude.

It sounds to me that not only is your mind made up, you are unwilling to even listen. This being the case, your time might be spent better elsewhere.

Excuse me dianaiad, shouldn’t you be watching Conference 🙂 I just watched part of the first session.

I am, actually…or rather, I was at the time I posted that. I multi-task well. 😉 Now I’m in the two hour break.

Nice catch, Thurifer! 😉

I understand Catholicism’s focus on smoothing over its views with Protestants makes sense to me in light of the past.

Yet, when my church’s missionaries come knocking on the door, as suppose I understand why Catholics are not interested – being rude to them is unnecessary.

Those of you who know Mormons your focus in getting us to leave our church and going through RCIA or in my case, just come back to the church, after I go to confession, is useless.

Why do you try? Those who have weak knowledge about my church are going to come to you or whatever church they will or no church at all. Trying to convince me about Catholicism are a waste of time.

Speaking for myself, I do not care if its a book, tract, the forums here, etc will never convince me that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is anything other than what I know it is.

Respect my church regardless of my differences regarding Catholicism that will never go away and there are things that Catholicism does is a good thing, for example is your work in support of the poor.
I think if you’re here long enough you’ll see that some Catholics are equal opportunity discriminators. Thankfully, those are in the minority. There are many nice and well-meaning Catholics on these fora. 🙂

In Christ,
Andrew

I don’t see any “smoothing” or politeness to Protestants in here generally. We see thread after thread after thread about how Protestants want chaos, they’re selfish and have made their churches all about themselves, sola scriptura and sola fide are chided and mocked, Protestant contributions to Western Civlization are diminished or rejected wholesale, and I see many posters downright hateful to Protestants in here. They are obsessed with it and just rail about it all day?

Mormons aren’t held in high regard either but I think most Catholics in here think ANYTHING other than Catholics (and they give a little lea-way to Orthodox) is junk…
Yes, I will agree with what Gurney has said. Gurney is a great example of this practice. I have seen Gurney chide and mock the Episcopal/Anglican Church a lot on this forum.

God Bless!

And LDS missionaries would never vandalize a Catholic statue or mockingly “sacrifice” themselves on a CC altar… oh what do you know they did??

Are these quotes from MADB polite?
Catholicism bears no resemblance to the ancient church, it’s authority is based on scripture and tradition, it lacks the spiritual gifts and is steeped in corruption. It’s a painted sepulcher that is bright and fresh on the outside, but inwardly is corrupt; and its leaders are blind guides leading the blind.
:
No wonder you fell away to follow after medieval idolatry; you never understood anything at all about the Saviour’s Church.
Keep up the slightly modified Isis-worship.
You may find it impossible to believe but LDS missionaries can be rude, not follow rules and such just like any other group of people.

The first session sounded very christian to me. 🙂 Hopefully, you enjoyed it.
Yes why me, much of it Catholics and others would not have problems with. However right now, one of the Mormon apostles (I forgot which one) is talking about how Jesus Christ and the Father have bodies of flesh and bone.
