Why Respectfully toward Protestants and Rude to Mean toward Mormons

I am a Latin Rite Catholic whose beliefs are orthodox and in union with the Magisterium. I am very conservative however and I have my own opinion of the ruins caused by Vatican II. Thank you for your kind words, but you leave my Sarah alone. She has more cojones than most of those girlie-men in Washington. The Hosemonkey said that!
She alone caused me to vote for a non-Republican candidate for the first time in my life. She is plastic, phoney, devoid of any real intellect, urbane, full of these cheesy home-spun antics like “Joe Six Pack” and “yooo betcha” and her parading her family out around and the hunting and the patronizing hillbillies, just drove me nuts. She was a packaged candidate with little experience, heavy use of handlers, foot in mouth disease, and she is a gift for the Democratic Party. Look back at the intellectual history of the conservative movement from Edmund Burke to William Buckley to Goldwater or Reagan, and now look at Palin…how far the quality and expectations of the electorate have fallen…sad stuff. I can’t jump on board with ya on that one. But then again, I teach in public education. For us to go for Republicans anyway is definitely like Jews for Hitler! lol:p

The same thing goes in spades for Barack Obama. The guy with no track record, never had a real job in his life, a total product of the Chicago Mob and a disaster for this country. Liberals voted for a novelty, blacks voted for a black. The American electorate got exactly what it deserved.

Clever attempt at mincing words but it IS a fact that Mormonism and Scientology are FALSE. Twisting words around and trying to reverse blame does nothing to change the reality of it or expunge the truth or alter it in any way. You contend that the religion Jesus Christ Himself began on earth is a fantasy? 🤷
No, actually, that wasn’t his point. His POINT was that the level of resentment and offense you have taken at this statement, when “Catholic” is the target, should make you stop and think about how the same statement sounds to Mormons when the word ‘Mormon’ is put where “Catholic” was.

In fact, I recognize the statement. When it was originally written, it was the word “Mormon” in the place of “Catholic.”

WhyMe wasn’t insulting Catholicism. He was proving a point…and your reaction simply emphasized that proof.

I don’t care how false you believe another religion to be, treating the believers of that religion with the disdain, disrespect and sheer contempt that many of you use is, at the very best, counterproductive. That is, it is counterproductive if your aim is to convince those believers that their beliefs are wrong.

Unfortunately, in many cases I don’t think that IS the aim. I think, in far too many cases, the aim is not to turn us from error into truth, but rather to cheer us on the way to hell, and make damned certain we don’t stray from the path. They deliberately do everything within their power to see to it that we see their truth as something to be avoided at all costs, being cruel, intolerant, harsh and full of unkindness. They present heaven as a place of eternal snootiness, where the only thing that matters is the willingness to throw family, friends and all aquiantances under the proverbial bus. (shrug)

So if you are offended by the word ‘Catholic’ in the context you saw Why Me put it, think about how it sounds to a Mormon, or a Jehovahs’ Witness, when they see the same context around THEIR faith name.

And get a clue.

Why Me likes to make comparisons in his posts to Catholicism to “prove” why we should not say certain things about Mormonism. This usually includes the Inquisition, Crusades, or a very sinful Pope, and other times can be a substitution of “Catholic” for “Mormon” when someone else is talking about Mormonism, to show that since we wouldn’t like others talking about Catholicism the way some talk about Mormonism, we shouldn’t say such things.
Well, is he wrong?

SHOULD those who oppose Mormonism use language that, if used to attack their faith, would cause that level of offence?

There are better ways to discuss one’s differences. *You *manage to find 'em.

WhyMe is a religious schizophrenic. He believes that one can be simultaneously mormon AND Catholic. Kinda like a Jewish Nazi or a black KKK member. Catholicism is true, mormonism is false. The two are mutually exclusive. Full stop. WhyMe would like to be all things to all men, but simply has no credibility. He claims to be both, but in fact is neither. Perhaps someday he will fall off of the fence, one side or the other, but right now he is just confused. mormons are sometimes treated rudely because frankly, error has no rights,
“error” may ‘have no rights,’ but those who believe it do. One of those rights is to be treated with the respect due all men. You know, 'do unto others," and all that?
especially when their brand of snake oil leads souls away from the true Church. mormonism began with a false “prophet”, follows false doctrine and is much more pagan than Christian, even though they use the Name of Jesus Christ in the title of their false “church.”
Well, you have to make a choice here. What do you want most? Do you want to spread the truth as you believe it, and have those who now believe in Mormonism leave it and come to believe as you do?

Or are you simply interested in showing your contempt and disdain, and to be able to say “I told you so” from your fluffy heavenly cloud as those same Mormons are burning in eternal hell fire?

Because if it is the first, you could try being a little more courteous to the believers so that they might want to, y’know, actually LISTEN to you.

If it is the second, you might want to consider whether that’s a choice that will actually get you to your favored seat.

Well, I think that you can see the disharmony there. I think that WhyMe’s leans more toward the way that “New Agers” view the world, that all religions are true and good and basically are equal. This has the advantage of never having to take a position on anything and to me is a form of moral cowardice. “I’m OK, you’re OK, can’t we all just get along?” No, we can’t. Christians have died bloody deaths, as martyrs, to uphold the teachings of true Christianity, and to water it down with insipid witness mocks the sacrifice of the true soldiers of God. There is only one Truth, and it resides in the Catholic Church.
May I refer you to Thurifer’s posts? He is very much a faithful Catholic. He disagrees with Mormonism and Mormon doctrine.

Yet he is unfailingly courteous, and he takes the time to find out what the LDS beliefs actually are, and addresses those. His approach does not ‘water down the deaths’ of Christian martyrs…and THAT, by the way, is a very irritating and stupid thing to say to the daughter of Mormon pioneers.

Woah.

I am also in public education. For us to go for Republicans is NOT like “Jews for Hitler.” It’s more like the French Resistance, Miep Gies, and Oskar Schindler.

And…for once I support you 100%…you go…there is much to do:)

**So, what we have learned again here (as if there were any questions) is that mormons are not “Christian” in the slightest; they are a cult. **

**They don’t even know where Jesus was born. LoL. **mormons that I’ve read about think Jesus was born in Jerusalem.
…just the tip of their misguided iceberg.
*Ooops. *

He he. Maybe he was born in the galaxy where God comes from?

Best to read All about mormonism HERE. Pure FACTS, AND GREAT FEEDBACK FROM REAL PEOPLE.

Ahem, difference being that the Catholic church is not heretical and constantly chaning. …and did not begin by one boy holding a hat to his face with a stone in it, while saying random things as a man opposite him writes it all down.

What do mormon pioneers have to do with anything? They were just as duped as are modern-day adherants to this dubious sect. It is not to you primarily that I address my comments. You are undoubtedly a TBM. It is others that need to be warned of the truth behind the mormon facade of Family, the Flag and Mom’s apple pie. The mormon organization’s attempt to portray themselves as just another mainstream protestant denomination is dishonest and deceptive and certainly does not practice full disclosure. Are converts told about all the masonic fol-de-rol that they must undergo before they can be candidates for “Godhood”? And all the other wierdness that mormonism teaches? Dishonesty as to the true nature of mormonism is what I take issue with.

Except for the fact that they sacrificed as much as any first century Christian did, right down to the torture and the killings, not much. So for you to completely discount the sacrifices they made and say that THEIR suffering made a mockery of early Christianity?

No.

I don’t think that’s a good idea, especially since AS a Christian, I may also ‘lay claim’ to the heritage of those first century Christians.

You are quite correct about that. What was your first clue? 😉

Well, m’friend, from what I can see on anti-sites, and from a great many of the people here who are attempting to tell the ‘truth’ about Mormonism, “Truth” seems to be rather relative. As long as it keeps your relatives from joining, you’ll claim anything, accurate or not.

…and he takes the time to find out what the LDS beliefs actually are, and addresses those.
—Same here. All mormon beliefs are found here through printed text or links.
His approach does not ‘water down the deaths’ of Christian martyrs…and THAT, by the way, is a very irritating and stupid thing to say to the daughter of Mormon pioneers.
–There is no such thing as a mormon “martyr”, and mormons are not Christian (not in the slightest) so I sure hope you aren’t referring to that fake prophet Joe Smith or any of his crew. They have never been, nor ever will be “martyrs”. Excuse me if you were actually referring to true Christian Martyrs.

Except for the fact that they sacrificed as much as any first century Christian did, right down to the torture and the killings, not much. So for you to completely discount the sacrifices they made and say that THEIR suffering made a mockery of early Christianity?

Placed against the suffering and deaths of uncounted thousands and three hundred years or more of deadly persecution, the early mormon convert"s lot was an easy one. The atrocities committed by mormons under the megalomaniac leadership of Joseph Smith triggered many of the reprisals against his followers.
I don’t think that’s a good idea, especially since AS a Christian, I may also ‘lay claim’ to the heritage of those first century Christians.
The truth about mormonism is not to be found coming from mormons. In the hands of mormons, the truth is a very elusive thing and subject to change from mormon to mormon and from year to year. You cannot agree even among yourselves as to what mormons believe. It is truly “The church of whats’ happening right now.”

It’s funny to me that, as much as I think the Mormon church is a false religion and that Joseph Smith was not a prophet, what makes us think that Mormons would buy copy and pasting from ex-Mormon websites, anymore than we would buy the arguments of Protestants copy and pasting from an ex-Catholic website. Calling Mormonism false, dismissing the trials that their pioneers went through as irrelevant b/c it’s a false religion, saying that Mormons don’t speak the truth about their religion, etc. is no more effective against them as is Protestants claiming that Catholicism is pagan, a cult, unbiblical, etc. Please look here for comparison:

christiandiscussionforums.org/v/forumdisplay.php?f=15

All I’m saying is that yes, I agree that Joseph Smith was a false prophet and that, in my opinion, there are many unbiblical teachings in Mormonism. I also think that certain Mormons, like “thecourt”, are deceptive and may not portray their own beliefs accurately, let alone Catholic beliefs (still thinking about that Vatican 2 thread ). However, many others are not like that, and really believe what they believe, and therefore, simply posting that Mormons are not Christians, that they’re in a cult, that they should come to the Catholic Church, etc won’t do anything by itself, anymore than evangelicals at the above website posting that Catholics are not Christians does anything against us, even if we know it’s a false claim. And it’s funny as well because, replace “Mormon” with “Catholic” in many of the posts on this thread, and you’ll see many of the posts at CARM.

Here are a few “better” critical Mormon websites:

irr.org/mit/
mormonthink.com/ (says that it’s written by Mormons, but I doubt that, b/c it’s very critical of Mormon beliefs).
mrm.org/#articles

…simply posting that Mormons are not Christians, that they’re in a cult, that they should come to the Catholic Church, etc won’t do anything by itself,
–Who cares what it does? It’s simply the truth. Anyone with any sense knows that mormons are not Christian, and they realize Joe Smith was not a prophet.
Best to keep on getting the truth out there.

Here is a great site for the mormon truth------HERE and there are numerous links to all other similar sites which help shred the bOm and any other dream-enhanced textual rubbish.

It’s all good, Thurif. 👍

Without getting into anyone’s beliefs I can say that I am really tired of Mormons and JW knocking on my door.

I see JWs every 6 months, once that fell on Thanksgiving while I was take the turkey out of the oven. I guess because they don’t celebrate, we shouldn’t. Every 6 months I tell them I am happily Catholic, and every 6 months, they come back.

I see Mormons every year, once a year. It is always two young men knocking on the door of a woman home alone with a child. Every year I tell them that I am happily Catholic, and every year they come back.

The last time I saw them, I wasn’t the nicest person. I was busy with home schooling classes and I didn’t have time to be all sweetness and light to them. I am sure they thought I was rude to them because they were Mormon or JW, in reality I was rude because I didn’t invite them to my home, they just showed up unannounced.😦

I don’t get mormons knocking on my door, but I do get JW’s every few months. But the funny thing is this; I seem to be able to sense when it is them at the door! 😃 So I don’t open it.

A few years ago (when I was an athiest) they came into my mums house and I absolutely ripped them to shreds about their “beliefs”, lol, they never knocked again. But that was in my mums house, so unfortunately they still knock on my house.

God forbid, one day …I will open the door and invite them in… lol, my living room wil be painted red.

A wonderful Christmas present. Help the LDS recover!
Why do mormons think Jesus was born in Jerusalem, btw?
Can they get anything right?
Jees Louise…

The perfect gift.
