These are some awesome answers! Thanks for the help. I told her some of the things that I had read on here and she actually agreed and said it made a lot of sense. Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
I am getting ready to read ***The Eternal City ***by Taylor Marshall because I am actually interested in this now. Has anyone read this book by any chance??
I have read it. It is pretty good. Alot of historical information.

Oh, a second reason, of course, is that Rome has symbolic significance as a city of gentiles. Thus the movement of God’s favor from Jerusalem to Rome (yes, that’s very reductive) signifies the opening-up of his salvific covenant to the entire world.
Why does everything have to be about the language of the Mass?

Seriously. Why does everything have to be a justification of why the Mass should be in Latin? 🤷

I rarely get frustrated but… :banghead:

Rome/Latin aren’t really separable, since the latter was the language of the former, after all. In any event, I was only making the case that the use of Latin in liturgy was not an arbitrary choice but had a real basis in the historical origins of Catholicism, the same basis and the same origins that brought the capital of the faith to Rome.

My Protestant friend brought this up to me.
Why is Rome so important? They brought up the point that if the Church was founded in Jerusalem, why is Rome so important. I told them it was bc that’s where Paul and Peter were crucified. It wud be helpful if I could explain to her the historical significance of Rome?
It is the successor of Peter, the one that Jesus gave the Keys to, that is important, not the city. The Pope see could be in Jerusalem, Antioch, France, Rome or anywhere. Wherever the Pope is.

Plus Vatican II says in Sacrosanctum Concilium, “The Latin language is to be preserved in the Latin Rite” (ie. Roman Catholic Rite). . Sorry, I HAD to go there.

It was literally the center of the known world.
