Why shouldn't we need a leader?

I was on my way to work today. While crossing over a bridge, I looked up to the sky and saw a pool of birds flying by. It was beautiful to see birds going by group like that.

I noticed that there was a bird flying way ahead and the others following them. Immediately, I thought about how all these birds knew whom to follow? what if they had no one to lead them? Would they fly all over the place? Would each one go in their own directions?

God is wonderful. Even a bird, He gives them a sense of being a follower and a leader. He created this world with organization.

Then, I thought about our faith and our church? What if we have no one to follow?

It wouldn’t make sense if God created birds having a leader for other to follow, and for our church not to have one, would it?

PS: I was keeping one eye looking up to the sky and the other on the road - No car accident! 😃

I agree. This is one of the reasons I became Catholic. As a Protestant, there seemed to be an “every man for himself” mentality. Its as if the Church wasn’t there to teach Christ’s saving faith as it was to lead people to the Bible so the Bible could teach Christ’s saving faith.

Depending on the species of bird, the leadership is rotated. The lead bird has a more difficult time flying, while those behind benefit aerodynamically from her lift, similar to “drafting” in car racing. The lead bird will fall back into the flock and a new leader will replace her. Was it a “V” formation? Ducks, Geese, Pelicans, ect. Usually fly in the “V” which is one of the most advantageous aerodynamically.

Not a V formation, they were just a group following the first one. I’ve seen ducks or geese forming the “V” before. 🙂

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone could say something about my question: It wouldn’t make sense if God created birds having a leader for others to follow, and for our church not to have one?
