Why so many Protestant denominations

Untrue, bigoted, and vitriolic.
I know that Protestants recoil in horror any time somebody tries to bring of church history prior to 1500. That is because Protestantism is totally untenable unless one ignores all church history from the moment Christ ascended into heaven until the “reformers” came along.

Contrary to what you may think, the Lutheran Church was not “made up from scratch”. The full Matrix of the Deposit of Faith handed down ,including the Liturgy of the Mass, the Communion of Saints, the entire history of the Church, her struggles to keep the faith in the face of many heresies, trials, and corruptions, and (surprise) Mariology…and that’s just for starters.

,
Luther denied the authority of the church. And once one denies the authority of the Church anything goes, as we have seen, it is also interesting to your ignore the fundamental doctrine of Luther that is salvation by faith alone that was unheard of before he came along,

Martin Luther broke the vow he made to obey in the church and followed that up with breaking his bow of celibacy. A deeply flawed man who came up with a deeply flawed doctrine and who helped cause untold confusion and ascension and imperiled millions and millions of souls

To what then shall I liken our present condition? It may be compared, I think, to some naval battle which has arisen out of time old quarrels,
and is fought by men who cherish a deadly hate against one another, of long experience in naval warfare, and eager for the fight. Look, I beg you,
at the picture thus raised before your eyes. :knight2:

See the rival fleets rushing in dread array to the attack. With a burst of uncontrollable fury they engage and fight it out. Fancy, if you like, the ships
driven to and fro by a raging tempest, while thick darkness falls from the clouds and blackens all the scenes so that watchwords are
indistinguishable in the confusion, and all distinction between friend and foe is lost.

Of the combatants some are turning traitors; some are deserting in the very thick of the fight; some have at one and the same moment to urge on
their boats, all beaten by the gale, and to advance against their assailants.

The disorder and confusion is tremendous, for the extremity of misfortune, when life is despaired of, gives men license for every kind of wickedness.
Suppose, too, that the men are all smitten with the incurable plague of mad love of glory, so that they do not cease from their struggle each
to get the better of the other, while their ship is actually settling down into the deep.

So, since no human voice is strong enough to be heard in such a disturbance, I reckon silence more profitable than speech,
for if there is any truth in the words of the Preacher, “The words of wise men are heard in quiet, in the present condition of
things any discussion of them must be anything but becoming.

I am moreover restrained by the Prophet’s saying, “Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time, for it is an evil time,”
a time when some trip up their neighbours’ heels, some stamp on a man when he is down, and others
clap their hands with joy :clapping: , but there is not one to feel for the fallen and hold out a helping hand, although according to the ancient
law he is not uncondemned, who passes by even his enemy’s beast of burden fallen under his load.

This is not the state of things now. Why not? The love of many has waxed cold;brotherly concord is destroyed, the very name
of unity is ignored, brotherly admonitions are heard no more, nowhere is there Christian pity, nowhere falls the tear of sympathy.
Now there is no one to receive “the weak in faith,” but mutual hatred has blazed so high among fellow clansmen
that they are more delighted at a neighbour’s fall than at their own success. Just as in a plague, men of the most regular lives suffer from
the same sickness as the rest, because they catch the disease by communication with the infected, so nowadays by the evil rivalry which
possesses our souls we are carried away to an emulation in wickedness, and are all of us each as bad as the others.
Hence merciless and sour sit the judges of the erring; unfeeling and hostile are the critics of the well disposed. And to such a depth
is this evil rooted among us that we have become more brutish than the brutes; they do at least herd with their fellows, but our most
savage warfare is with our own people.

**And with that I take me leave. My memory of CAF that I take with me?
"See how they love to hate one another and tear to pieces for the sheer joy of it.
The squander the Saving Word on words that kill and maim.

I do not every want to be know by the name Roman Catholic; I’ve tried-I’ve been here over a year. What’s scarry is I see some of the same contempt in my spouse’s eye’s since he converted to the Catholic Church.
Well, there is no lack of people on this board who would be glad to educate him in how to get an annulment. It would be a slam dunk. 30 years, and in 6 months he looks at me like I am a different species.

What makes you, who claim to have the fullness of God’s Grace so ugly inside?
I feel violated when I come here. I tried to converse here.
I’m done with the lot of you.
So tell CA they can put another notch on their belt.
One less Eastern Orthodox poster to worry about, so every one can get on with parrotting the same old soundbites, and pat each other on the back

Did you know they have wiped out about 20 of us in less than 2 months? Most for no reason.-I’m not allowed to mention that-so I guess they will ban me too.
And they won’t even put banned our names. It’s like we disappear into thin air-anybody notice people missing?

I used to wonder how things like the Holocaust or the Rowanda genocide could happen…I think I am beginning to understand a little bit what would make people hack a stranger to death, just because they are the ancient enemy.**

Bravo! That is without a doubt the best parting shot I have ever seen on CAF. You really ought to stick aorund. Eloquence likes yours is needed!

Jesus states eat my body and drink my blood and you shall have eternal life, for my Body is true ( food) and my blood is true ( Drink )

Now this was not a parable and was mentioned over and over again by Jesus. He did not say this is a symbol but a fact

Amen Amen I say to you.

If you do not eat my body and drink my blood you shall have no life within you. Again he did not ever refer this as a parable or say this is a symbol but a fact and was repeated over and over.

Now thats the truth

Jesus lost many a follower because of this truth. Are you saying then Jesus lost thousands of sheep rather than explain that He meant symbolism and let them go to hell?
Jesus is the Bread of Life. Through His blood we are made pure. John Chapter 6 makes it clear that:
  • If we come unto Christ we “shall never hunger” and if we believe on Him we “shall never thirst” (v 35)
  • “He that believeth on [Christ] hath everlasting life” and will be raised up at the last day.(v 40)
  • Christ is the “living bread” that makes everlasting life possible. That bread is His flesh that He would give for the life of the world (v 51)
  • We demonstrate that we have come unto Him and believe in Him when we “eateth [His] flesh, and drinketh [His] blood” and are thus worthy to have eternal life and to be raised up at the last day. (vs 53 & 54)
  • We eat His flesh and drink His blood when we become one with Him by taking upon ourselves His name and keeping His commandments. (v 56) This is further clarified in 1st John 3:24 “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.”
  • The words the Savior spoke were to be understood through the spirit. (v63)
It’s not suprising that many of his disciples left and “walked no more with him”. I’m sure there were some who just did not understand what he was talking about and thought that he must be crazy. But even to those who fully understood what he was speaking of it must have been seemed an impossible choice; to fully turn over their lives over to him.

It is much more difficult to truly accept the Savior as the center your life, to take upon yourself His name in all that you do, To live His commandments to the depths of your heart, than it is to pretend that a wafer turns to flesh and wine turns to blood when placed in your mouth.

It is much more difficult to truly accept Jesus’s teachings as literal teachings than it is to water them down using one’s own personal interpretation of Scripture. Many of his followers walked away because it was a hard teaching. Many continue to do so today

Yes, and this was not some kind of “spiritual flesh;” this was His actual, physical body, bleeding and dying on the Cross for us.

We understand them because of the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, but this is not some kind of aery-faerie thing; a few days after this conversation, Jesus took the communion bread, lifted it up and showed it to the Apostles and said, “This is My body; take and eat.” Then He picked up the chalice of wine, presented it to the Apostles and said, “This is my blood; take and drink.” Thus, He showed us the answer to this riddle; we fulfill His commandment to eat and drink of His body and blood when we receive Holy Communion in the Catholic Church.

Actually, it does this at the Consecration; not when it is put into my mouth. 😉

More proof I’m not a protestant… 👍

I just don’t think scripture is all that complicated that I need another to instruct me on the basics of salvation and growing Christlike in my spirit.

While you consider the fact that I don’t partake in the Sacraments the same maner as you do, I’m closer to Christ than ever.

So, let God sort it out. I sleep very well and at peace at night. 🙂

So you went from the Pope is infallible to I am infallible?

Dude, whatever you want to make it out to be. But, the bottom line to me is that it just isn’t that difficult to grasp.

Did God say He was gonna inscribe His Word on our hearts? Or did He say He was gonna inscribe it on just a select few hearts and they will tell us what His Word means?

BTW: GEAUX TIGERS!! 2008 BCS NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

No

Did God say he was going to let everyone figure things out on their own? And how were we to figure this out on his own when we have to rely book that didn’t exist when Jesus rose from the dead and when it wasn’t agreed on what it contained until the fourth century-by the Catholic Church, by the way. If your premise was true everybody would come to the exact same interpretation of Scripture, there would be no other Christian denominations and all the great minds and scholars of the 1500 years after Christ died were idiots

Rbt Southwell;3167903:
Heb. 8:10-11
  • “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbour, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them”
Heb. 10:16 - “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them”

I thought Jesus did away with the law? And how do these verses in any way prove that God said he was can inscribe his word on arts, I don’t see a word about “Word” in these verses. And what word is God going to inscribe on our hearts? Your interpretation of the word? The church’s interpretation of the word? The Mormons interpretation of the word? Your next-door neighbors interpretation of the word? David Koresh’s is interpretation of the word.
