If there is no solution to end that pain, why taking your own life is wrong?

A) If the pain really does have no solution, then you will die naturally - there is no need to kill yourself.

B) If you aren’t dead yet by natural means, this signifies that there is a solution to the problem; you just haven’t found it, yet. Keep looking.

Every problem is temporary; even terminal diseases end in natural death. When you have run out of ideas, just wait - something will happen.

That having been said, my prayers go up for you in your pain. May God abundantly bless you and bring you to a happier more secure place.

One who is in great distress and commits suicide may not be culpable of sin because they are not choosing death freely.

Suicide, for one who is not experiencing great psychological or emotional trauma is wrong because it is an abandonment of the virtue of hope. Christ experienced the greatest emotional, psychological and physical pain any one ever could and yet he never lost hope.

It also represents a disregard for life which is a precious gift given to us by God.

EVERY sin is seeking a good that is not the greatest good. Yes, there is a good that the person is seeking by committing suicide, but it is not the greatest good.

As someone who has attempted suicide multiple times and failed in my teens and early 20’s, I will tell you this: it really is a permanent (and sinful) solution to a temporary problem.

Granted, while those problems that make one wish for death do go away, more will come. Life really is about struggles and pain. And it sometimes doesn’t get any easier. When one problem goes away a new problem presents itself usually. But that is our mission here. to struggle, suffer, and overcome. And I would rather suffer temporarily here than suffer permanently in hell. That is the one thing that stopped me from completing the act years ago. The thought of being sent away from my Lord for eternity? Not worth it.

My brother killed himself last year…over health issues. While I do understand what drove him to do that, not a day goes by that I don’t wonder where he is now.

I have attempted suicide several times in the past, mainly by overdosing on medication. That said, I am so glad that I never succeeded in killing myself. If I had done so, I might have gone to Hell. I have not attempted suicide in about 2 years now.

Because Human life is Sacred. From conception until natural death.

To commit suicide it to break the commandment “Thou shalt not kill”

You would then be dying with a Mortal Sin on your soul.

You would also be guilty of a Lack of the Virtue of Hope.

One thing you have to also consider is that the Church does acknowledge that some situations may lessen the culpability the person has in regards to the sin of suicide. If the person is emotionally distressed or has a mental disorder or disease that may lead to the person making an irrational judgement (kind of like how people who are drunk may think that they are still okay to drive, even if everyone else notices that he is, in fact, not), then the person may be less culpable for their actions. That is not to say that it is no longer considered a sin in those events, it is still sin.

Suicide, the individual’s ultimate decision to end it all, right or wrong, is a flagrant act of rebellion against God. Suicide’s focus is on the pain and self and the final refusal to turn to God as a last resort.

Suicide is an act that is bereft of hope and faith. Though the individual may appear to be justified because of the immense physical or emotional pain they are undergoing, God always provides a way out if we call upon Him. The cry, “Jesus help me” may make the difference between eternal life and death. Suicide shifts the right to life which belongs to God the author of creation to self. We all have a time when we will leave this earth and that decision is up to God alone. Even Jesus, His son, did not know the hour or the day.

Yes, life is a precious gift from God, but most times those who commit suicide are hurting so much that taking one’s life appears to be the only way out. The church (the body of Christ) can do much to help these broken people who are literally at the end of their rope. Even a kind word, a smile, a recognition that this person has immense worth, is what we need to see when we look at them. If Jesus were still here on earth, He would be one of the first to reach out as He did to many of the lost sheep who came across His path.

Suicide is never the answer and is only a temporary solution to the hell that awaits a lost soul in the next life. No matter how bad this world gets, turn to God before things get so bad that nothing, even life itself, matters. We are eternal beings and are made for eternal happiness with God. If we can keep that thought in perspective, we must come to the realization that nothing in life is ever worth the eternal death that the act of suicide brings.

Can you explain more? Jesus did not marry as well.
Yes, Jesus did not marry and there are millions who followed his example.
We are not all called to die in a deep suffering.
But some do.
With the cross, Jesus explained to us that the suffering has a meaning. Senseless suffering has a meaning. To tell you simply, I am not putting up on my heels and explaining to you what you do not see. I do not understand suffering. But Jesus said that He took it like sheep going to the slaughter house: in silence, no complain, accepting God’s Will. He knows thee meaning of suffering. We do not.
God bless me and I ask God that I may accept His sufferings fallen on me would I be in that situation because I do not feel prepared.
But I believe that suffering has got a meaning, united with the suffering of Jesus Christ, who saved us through suffering.
That is not to say that we should not relieve pain through morphine in cancer cases, of course.
I Pray …

I’ve never made any attempts but in my 20+ years of fighting depression I considered it many times. My personal feeling is that while some say it is the wrong solution to a temporary problem or it is taking the coward’s way out, I say suicide is the ultimate expression of taking control of your like.

I’m thankful for your good wishes, but I’m not having any physical or psychological pain.😛

I’m against violence, stealing, wars or hurt when it comes to others, but when it comes to our own lives, why aren’t we free to take it?

I’m sorry for your brother, I never tried to commit suicide.

If you believe that God can forgive a murderer, why not those who kill themselves? Does forgiveness only depend on the moment of repentance? If we repent before the moment of death, we are forgiven, if not we are doomed?

I’m against suicide in general but there is some cases (few) where suicide could be the only solution.

I dont think suicide is always unforgivable…especially if a person is not in their right mind when they do it. Only God can know. 🙂

Some have also said that it is the ultimate “go away, world” insult to everyone you know and everyone you might have ever met - for example, G. K. Chesterton points out in his essay on suicide that the suicidal person hates the world and everyone in it, and killing himself is his way of destroying it utterly (since, for the suicidal person, it will no longer exist), and removing himself from the company of those he detests (which is, everyone on earth).

Judy Collins, in her book Singing Lessons, which is about the suicide of her son, uses rather stronger language.

Sorry, I don’t mean to be flippant but your comment here seems to be the cop out for any sin that someone needs to justify. Simply stated. you are saying that sin is the only answer. Whereas in reality, sin is never the answer.

It is morally wrong because every moment of life is considered precious, even when one is suffering and nearing the end of one’s life. Life is regarded as a gift from G-d and it shows disrespect for G-d when we treat His gift badly or choose to relinquish it.

Not justifying, in some situations it could work, for example:
When in wars you are obliged to murder people, in some cases the only way from running from murdering others is to shoot yourself, or when you are dying and being in an extreme pain, where there is no other chance to survive or reduce that pain.
When some mafias or soldiers are going to skin me while I’m still alive, I would choose to shoot myself in the head or take a pill, in both cases I’m going to die, I would prefer a peaceful and painless death by my own decision instead of a barbaric painful death by the decision of soldiers.
