Why the Anti Catholicism?

I don’t see anti-catholicism nowadays. Lively discussions and disagreements aren’t “anti-catholicism”.

Of course, historically , in the early 20th Century and before it was a fact. Although to what degree it was really “anti-catholicism” as opposed to just plain anti-immigrant is debatable, anti-catholic was certainly part of it.
 
What I have a problem in understanding why the anti-Catholic hatred is that if they claim to be Christians why do they not follow the teaching of Christ? I do not see anything in any of the Gospels or even the Epistles that say we are to hate anyone. Did not Jesus say “to love one another as I have loved you?” And also when Jesus said to love (“God above all and one’s neighbor as one loves oneself?”)I paraphased it.

Being Catholic I was never taught to hate anyone or to besmath someone’s beliefs. As a matter of fact i was taught" to hate the sin but not the sinner." It seems to me most of the anti-Catholic view is due more to believing falsehoods by ignorant people who know nothing about the catholic Church and what it teaches and from those who for whatever reason left the Catholic Church and choose to hate it and spread lies.

The sad part is that many of these Catholic haters or Catholic Church haters are not willing to listen and only use what a Catholic says to twist it and distort it to try and prove a Catholic wrong. And sadly most are never going to change unless God gives them the grace and they accept it to change their thinking.
 
Would you mind sharing what site that is? I like to defend against anti Catholics.
 
@spina1953 I have several family members who are Pentecostal evangelicals and they despise Catholicism. They’re upset I’m converting, and they refused to come to my daughter’s baptism. I think it would’ve been an easier pill to for them to swallow if I said I were an atheist.
 
Anti Catholicism is so interwoven into the fundamentalist theology that I’ve witnessed it as a real conundrum for the earnest and honest non Catholic youngsters who read Scripture. My practicing Catholic daughter has a work friend who is evangelical and they share lots of practical moral views and are friends based those basic tenets of Christianity, but this girl struggles to accept my daughter as a true Christian. You can literally see her inner battle in this. Something that my daughter doesn’t struggle with at all because of the Church’s position that we must acknowledge what is good in other religions and always hope and prayer for reunification with our Christian brothers and sisters.

Well we do pray for the forgiveness of sins as all Christians should not just Catholics.

USA Wife, That is really very sad that several family members refuse to come and take joy in your daughter’s Baptism. I can understand those who are anti-Catholic or despise Catholic’s may have been taught that from the church they attend. Yet, one would think one would at the very least look into why they think that way. The question they should ask themselves is being anti-Catholic or despising Catholic’s something Jesus the Christ taught and want people to be? it this what Scripture says to do? i don’t think so, so it must be they have been taught that and are not willing to believe anything else expect what they have been taught to believe.

lastly Jesus said we will be judged by the very same standards we judge others so we should not judge others least we be judged the same way. Anti-Catholic’s and those who despise Catholic’s what what the Catholic Church teaches sadly will end up being judged by Christ in the very same way. I wonder if they realize that?

That is really sad they refused to come to your daughter’s baptism.
Unfortunately, converting to the Catholic Church can cause friction among family members and friends. So many don’t really know about the Catholic church or misunderstand or have heard myths.
I am still learning about the faith after 9 1/2 years and still like being Catholic more
and more.
 
Catholic’s are taught that all God created was good. God man free will to choose either God, or to reject God. Why because God did not want to force anyone to love Him. Jesus said to love God with all our harts and minds and soul and to love our neighbor as ourselves. When we are anti Catholic or anti someone because of what then we are not loving our neighbor as we love ourselves which in turn means we are not loving God and what God created.

One thing I have noticed is that they will use whatever false lie and distortion to try and prove their point that they are saved and anyone who does not believe exactly as they do are bound for hell. I also think its a lack of proper understanding of Scripture and more that they try to make Scripture to say and mean whatever they want it to say instead of what it actually says and means. They rely on either what someone tells them it is or they decide by their own authority what something means and says. They have the I’n right and everyone else is wrong because they did not believe the way they do… its much better to walk away from those who are that way than to argue since they are not going to listen unless its to distort or mislead and falsify what a Catholic said.
 
It is curious to me, in this day and age, that certain Protestant/evangelical churches still “hate” Catholics and preach weekly (as someone above said) against the Catholic Church. How sad for a religion to define itself constantly “against” another Christian group. Where does this huge fear come from? What do they think the Catholic church is going to “do” to them, or take from them? I guess they regard their mission as wiping out the Catholic Church? (Good luck with that!!) And then what?
It is sad, really. There are so many larger enemies in secular/atheistic society to fight.
 
I’ve gone to CARM every once in a while. I would not say what they do about Protestants. Needless to say I took a shower afterwards.
 
There were misconceptions on the works and this doesn’t help my overzealous over american Evangelical Christianity.

As a Catholic, I wouldn’t go to a family member’s pentecostal baptism, I don’t think that makes me anti-pentecostal. It just makes a statement that I’m in disagreement with them. And I don’t think the pentecostals would be offended or upset by my actions.

Just because you have a disagreement with someone, doesn’t mean you are hateful toward them, and that goes both ways.
 
The misconceptions you speak of Entwhisler is that works that Paul spoke of is very much different from what Christ and Paul taught. Paul was speaking of course about Jewish rituals and the law of Moses not works that helps others. Jesus did plenty of good works towards others and the Apostles also did the same . No one ever said that just doing good works was going to save any one just as just having faith and doing nothing with it is going to save anyone. That’s the difference.
 
@augustinian no, they actually hate Catholicism. And I’ve gone to events at their church because that’s what family does. And it didn’t mean I supported or agreed with their church.
 
I know 7th Day Adventists and Jehovah Witnesses are anti-Catholic, but I have never
attended any Pentecostal or Baptist churches so I could not say. I was at a prophecy
seminar once put on by 7th Day Adventists and the first night they were really friendly, but the second night, the preacher did not hold back and really told us how he felt
about the Catholic church. We had to fill out a card so he knew at least 3-4 people in
the audience were Catholic. We never went back.
