There was unity untill Rome started to lord over believers as the gentiles do.
There have always been heretics. Study your Church history. In fact progress has been made in restoring unity with some of the mainline denominations. We aren’t in union yet, but that is my prayer. Fundamentalism is a particularly nasty virus that just won’t go away, and it weakens the whole body of Christ.

The Jews were a religion base on covenant!!!
Non Jews could become Jews by being circumcised.
Your timeline is in error. Jews,Christians, Catholics.
Your polemic is easily disputed but showing how you have a faulty starting point.
You separate Christianity from Catholicism, which is impossible since the purest and truest form of Christianity IS Catholicism. Anyway, if you believe Christianity and Catholicism are not the same, explain to me (WITH DATES AND EVIDENCE) when Catholicism separated and then explain to me why your brand of Christianity is the original form and also where was your brand of Christianity between the time of Catholicism’s overthrow of real Christianity and your brand’s modern founding or whatnot.

Catholicism is based on Covenant theology. I have two well respected Catholic theologians to back me up on this off the the top of my head. Look into the work of Dr. Scott Hahn and Dr. John Burgsma. Catholicism is very much covenant theology

You know I think Hisalone is right we got the bible from the protestants 1500 years before we had the word proestants and before the bible was put togather under one book, Like some Cathloics once said we had 4 Popes before the book was put together.

LOL. 😃

It’s like the old saying: you can lead a person to Truth, but you can’t make him think.

It is true, as was posted a few posts ago, that early Christianity was a sect of Judaism and was so “Jewish” that there was a debate (evidenced in the book of Acts) as to whether Gentiles would have to become Jewish to become Christian 🙂

This was resolved with a clear “no” in the Jerusalem counsel (discussed in Acts) and the doctrine of resisting judaizing efforts of Jewish believers is reiterated in both Galations and Hebrews. As matter of historical record, Christians continued to worship, with the Jews, in the Temple until its destruction in 70AD. Paul preached there most Sabbaths (recorded in scripture). After the destruction of the temple, combined with animosity between Jewish non-believers and with the influx of Gentiles into the Church, a natural separation occurred between Judaism and Christianity. This was formalized and exacerbated by the Church teaching in the third or fourth century actually forbidding Christian worship on the Sabbath (saturday Sabbath).

I’ve thought and continued to pray about this (I’m a Jewish believer). My current thinking is consistent with Church teaching on this issue - that God’s plan was not to put new wine in old wineskins and his salvation plan is for there to be no distinction between Jew and Gentile in Christ.

To the earlier point of these posts - all the apostles (and Jesus and Joseph and Mary) were all Jews - but they were Catholics in the sense of their obedience of faith and ultimate following of the teaching of the apostles (other than Jesus who is the one who gave the apostles their authority).

Blessings,

Brian

The bible is Gods book to mankind entrusted to the Jews and followed by men of good will worldwide despite their religious affiliation.
Catholics have tried to replace Jews as Gods chosen people—heresy.
Now they want to claim the Jewish book as their own. Pretty petty behavious in my opinion.
The Bible consist of stories dating back to history of the Jewish People. It covers the creation account. Indeed, the Jews did gave us the Hebrew portion of the Bible. However, they did not gave us the New Testament. The New Testament was a part of the oral traditions of the Church. The Bible itself consist of both OT and NT. The Jews did not gave us NT, therefore, they did not gave us the Bible.

It is the Church who gave us the Bible. If you want to limit yourself to the Jews, then you might as well stick the Old Covenant, since the Old Covenant, aka OT is Jewish in origin.

You aren’t saying that the belief in the Trinity didn’t exist until Nicea, are you?
The concept of the Trinity was there before the Council of Nicea. Theophilus of Antioch in about 170. He wrote: “In like manner also the three days which were before the luminaries, are types of the Trinity Τριάδος], of God, and His Word, and His wisdom. And the fourth is the type of man, who needs light, that so there may be God, the Word, wisdom, man.”

Tertullian, a Latin theologian who wrote in the early third century, is credited with using the words “Trinity”,[18] “person” and "substance"to explain that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are "one in essence – not one in Person.

The Council of Nicea defined Trinity as part of Christian orthodox belief. Of course you know, the Council of Nicea in 325 discuss the heresy concerning Arianism.

Everyone of its books (with the possible exception of one) was written by a Jew.
You know something else? Jesus was a jew. The gospels were written by followers of Christ, so yes, they would be jews…our faith originated in Israel. Why not say the bible isn’t a Christian book? Christians arent JEWS afterall either. (what a silly thing to say) It’s like pointing out the obvious. the bible was written by Jews. BUT the first Christians WERE jews!!! I don’t get what your point is by this, but I can chalk it up as noise in the sea of statements.

It means that those who followed Jesus were part of a movement within Judaism. The first Christians did not see themselves as separate from Judaism, most were Jewish Christians. Later on when Christians were mostly gentiles then the Christian religion became more distinct and separate from Judaism.
The bible isn’t protestant either then. Protestantism wasnt for MANY centuries later WELL after catholicism, & the rapture was made up in the 1800s, and now in the 21st century, the bible isn’t catholic. That has to be the funniest thing I’ve heard all day, we should have a beer some time, seriously, that’s great…I’m going to bring this up at my next bible discussion session…we could use a good laugh. In fact, Christianity really has no business reading the bible. Let’s go crazy here, why not?!?

Have you not read my signature?
my favorite Thomas Merton quote is “Let there always be quiet, dark churches in which people can take refuge…Houses of God, filled with His silent presence. There, even when they do not know how to pray, at least they can be still and breathe easily.” Got that quote in the guest book at the monastic church at Mepkin Abbey. Beautiful quote.

I’d say it was Jews, then pagans…then the pagans get wiped out, then Jews again, and egyptians, poor egyptian army guys…they didnt learn form the noah, thing, it pays to be able to swim…but yeah, then some more jews, then some romans, then some greeks, and some cypriots, you know what? Big deal. Stick to the point. THis is one of those topics that is silly & just one of those ones specifically for those who love to argue & banter back & forth as though created by some disgruntle person in need of some relief of stress. I’m going to look for serious conversation elsewhere, it’s sure not in here.

My father said to all ways be nice to people, but I think we can make a rule for you,He also said to never agree with ignorance,so with that in mind I will not answer you are your ignoranse of the Cathloic Church and the bible.
So My Lord must still be a Jew if we use your logic,May God have mercy on your soul.

Hisalone, Its not that hard Jesus was a Jew so if we use you logic all Christians are Jewish so you can also chalk it up to ignoranse.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.
I started this thread as a response to a thread that the bible was most assuredly a Catholic book I thought it so absurbed that I began this parody.

Friend you are struggeling with a crisis of Faith, without which there will be no understanding.

The term “The Church” singular, appears some 37 times in the NT. IF you really wish to know the truth look them up and you’ll discover alot of evidence to prove you’re wrong. But I 'm not sure that is in your ajenda:shrug:

God bless you friend. I’m content to let a Perfectly Just God stand in judgement of you’re obstinate position.

Love and prayers.
