Certainly can’t argue with your last sentence friend.

Everything before it seems a might flawed in my humble opinion.

Jomoco, I’m sensing that we have to backtrack significantly to have useful dialogue here…we have to go back to premises I think…and take things one step at a time.

…do you believe that homosexual conjugal acts are intrinsically sinful? perhaps this has been established already, but remind me of your belief please. And if you could explain why, or why not, in your answer, that’d be very useful. Thanks.

**please note…I am not asking if a homosexual who engages in homosexual conjugal acts is necessarily guilty of sin, I’m merely asking if the acts themselves are inherently sinful in your belief.

I believe the instinct to reproduce is powerful, a close third behind staying alive and eating. Quite obviously an inherent instinct that can’t be easily suppressed without dire consequences in an individual.

Not being a homosexual myself, but rather a father of three grown children. It has been my personal experience that true love between a man and woman is as close to God as I have been, and only for a few contented seconds does the one-ness wonder last until we are ripped apart again by life, It is this mothlike attraction to that one-ness that kept our love alive for 27 years, until her passing.

Love like that is both a powerful and precious thing. And if homosexual love is polarity switched by God, and not the individual homosexual? Then they are no different than any other handicapped, clubfooted, blind, deaf, dumb one of us are they?

The way so many of you blythely inform young vibrantly alive homosexuals, that if they act on their reproductive instincts to consumate their happiness and experience their version of one-ness with God, they’ll burn eternally in hell as evil malformed creations of God?

Me-thinks you take too much upon your flawed selves to speak definitively on the matter.

God didn’t create same-sex attractions. Those are the result of original sin. God created a natural order for marriage and procreation; and original sin threw a lot of stuff out of whack.

Fortunately, God also gave us the Church to guide us and many graces and opportunities for happy life for those who experience same-sex attraction. He also gave us, through His Church on earth, clear instructions on how to live according to His Law. Those with same sex attractions are called to a life of chastity and the Church is called to lovingly guide them to Christian perfection.

Oh, I think you overlooked this question:
“…do you believe that homosexual conjugal acts are intrinsically sinful?”

Intrinsically mistaken, yes, flawed like us, yes, sinful like us, no doubt.

We are saying that they are not conjugal at all! They do not pertain to the essential aspects of the relationship between a husband and wife. It is that these acts are being divorced from truly conjugal sexuality that makes them inherently wrong.

For the purposes of public discourse, however, suffice it to say our cuurent objection is not that we’re concerned to call these relationship right or call them wrong or call them your own personal business.

With regards to the rule of law, we are saying that these relationships are not and by their very nature cannot be conjugal.

You can’t paint an apple orange and make it into a citrus. If someone doesn’t think that’s fair, well, that someone has an unrealistic view of justice. That’s in their court, not ours.

You’re absolutely right, EasterJoy. I misused the term here, and allowed it to be synonymous generically with “sex”. My apologies. Indeed, a conjugal act is the proper heterosexual, unitive and procreative sexual encounter between a man and woman in valid marital union. Thanks for forcing the clarification here. As such it is impossible to use it in any way to express what homosexuals are doing when they engage in sex.

I don’t think Jomoco realized my misuse of the term, so I think my question remained relatively clear to him…although I’m still having trouble extracting a clear answer from him, as to whether or not he believes homosexual “sex” to be intrinsically sinful.

Homosexual acts are by definition not reproductive in nature. There’s nothing instinctually reproductive about them.
Me-thinks you take too much upon your flawed selves to speak definitively on the matter.
But God is not flawed, and we Catholics believe that God defnitively speaks through His Church, founded by His Son Jesus. It is the Church that speaks with authority on the matter. The individuals are merely reporting what has been stated by the Church.

Intrinsically mistaken, yes, flawed like us, yes, sinful like us, no doubt.

Ok. I missed this post when I commented that you had yet to answer the question. Thanks, Jomoco. You concede homosexual acts are sinful. I wasn’t sure since you had stated that one poster’s comment that homosexual acts are sinful was flawed.

But for the purpose of the rest of my post here, I’ll assume you agree they are in fact sinful.

Next question would be…

Do you believe Christians are called to not only avoid sin themselves, but also help society avoid sin in whatever charitable way they can help?

Understand that I am not intending to pull you through an annoyingly long sequence of questions, jomoco. I’m merely trying to uncover for everyone here exactly what underlying premise is causing the problem. In fact, I think that this particular question is where we’ll begin to disagree, and then perhaps we can discuss it further if you want.

A non-religious reason for why the government should not support gay marriage is because these unions do nothing to contribute to the continuity of the country. Children = citizens, citizens = the future of the country. This is the same reason for why abortion should be illegal as well.

The church’s stance on homosexuality is self-evident throughout history Steve.

And while the church no longer explicitly recommends torturing and stoning homosexuals to death, it still manages to equate a consumated homosexual lifestyle as intrinsically evil, despite admitting that the root of their dis-order is an unresolved mystery, the church continues to attribute that mystery to evil in no uncertain terms, as if they definitively know the mind of God, despite being flawed sinners themselves.

To boil matters down to their base essentials, the church has proven itself as flawed as any other institution of man over the centuries, yet still claims to possess an infallable knowledgs of God’s will here on earth, despite proving they don’t by their prior doctrines of torturing and executing homosexuals in the past.

To the degree the church was wrong then, closely matches the degree that they’re still wrong now in denouncing homosexuals as evil.

There is an admitted mystery here, acknowledged by the church concerning homosexuality’s roots, yet the church still denounces them as evil, despite their helplessly flawed inability to quantify or resolve that Godly mystery.

The church’s track record on dealing with homosexuals in a Christ-like manner speaks for itself, both then and now, in my humble opinion.

Nope. Not the way the Church defines it. The attraction (“the mystery”) is disordered. The people who have the attraction are not disordered people. Even less so are they evil people.

Sorry. You’ve got in wrong. Further, you don’t believe that the Catholic Church is the repository of definitive moral truth from an unchanging God whose absolute standards are recorded in Scripture and sacred tradition evolving from that scriptural history & early oral tradition. So the argument on your part will never end, because you’re focusing on flawed humanity instead of the unflawed Spirit of God which resides in and guides the Church on moral matters.

Jesus, by the way, reaffirmed the Mosaic Law, a law which prohibited homosexual behavior (again, condemning the acts, not the persons) in certain terms.

We’ve all gotten a front seat pew of late to witness the true degree of the church’s infallibility concerning homosexuality inside its own doors. Please quit acting like it never happened and your vestments are still an infallible pearly white that’s impervious to flawed manly stains.

It’s getting real old and depressing, as well as detrimental to the church itself, and Christianity in general.

jomoco

The speed with which you equate homosexuals to beasts is very telling friend.

Your chosen course is obvious. But remember, your opinions are not necessarily shared by God, or Jesus, both of whom counseled us to love and forgive our neighbors as ourselves. Not to stone them and discriminate against them because they are afflicted.

Your assumptions are your own. Don’t attribute them to God, He might take exception.

jomoco
lol great dodge, are you a politician by chance? I also loved how you had to specify that my opinions aren’t shared by God OR Jesus as if they have differing views from each other 😉 You do believe in the Trinity correct?

Now back to the question you dodged, since the biblical references about homosexuality are not enough for you to condemn it MORALLY (I’m not talking legally anymore), how about the MORALITY of bestiality? You stepped into a whole new park of cool-aid drinking when you decided to argue that homosexuality should not be even morally wrong let alone legally, so deal with the results or cede the point that no Bible believing Christian can try to argue that homosexuality is not MORALLY wrong. Now note that I’m not saying that morally wrong implies it should be legally wrong in our societies, I’m just asking you about the morality of this issue.

Why don’t you look up what the Church teaches on infallibility before you use a term you obviously don’t understand. Priest’s sin. Pope’s sin. Apostle’s (ever heard of Peter?) sin, all Christians sin. The fact that these people sin has nothing to do with the idea of infallibility.

Well, apparently my method of establishing some common ground with you is failing miserably. You certainly have many bones to pick it seems. Unfortunately, your anger toward the Church has seemingly allowed you to subscribe to much falsehood about Church history as well as some painfully transparent misinformation about the fundamental workings of The Church. What is most clear is that you do not understand what infallibility actually is. It’s a common misunderstanding, though. I won’t go into too much detail, but…

Infallibility has NOTHING to do with sin, Jomoco. Indeed, sinful men were used to be our Lord’s apostles and lay the foundations of His Church. Paul himself persecuted many Christians before becoming one of the most influential Christians in all of salvation history. No one is denying that individual men inside the Church have grievously sinned in every generation. But this does not affect infallibility, which is divinely protected truthfulness regarding doctrinal decrees of faith and morals. Notice, I didn’t say divinely protected obedience here. The people that lead the Church and transmit the divinely protected truths about morality are themselves not divinely protected from violating those morals.

By the way, the alleged torturing and murder of homosexuals has never been a doctrine, as you suggested. The Church has never taught that doing so is moral or proper in any regard. So, I’m not sure where you think you’re getting reliable information that you are attempting to claim here.

At any rate, what HAS always been infallibly decreed as intrinsically sinful is homosexuality…not the attraction, but the willing submittal to, and acting on that attraction. Hence, homosexuals are not themselves inherently labeled as sinful. Indeed we consider those with SSA who commit to a life of chastity quite heroic and role models of the faith.

What I’m trying to understand is if you will concede that homosexual acts are intrinsically and gravely sinful, without resorting to a diatribe of the fact that priests inside the Church are guilty of this sin. We already know this, and it has no bearing on the teaching that it is sinful for everyone. So, can you answer the question please? Again, do you concede they are sinful acts, that we are called to avoid this sin (and all sins), and that we are also called to help shape society in such a way as to remove the normalization of sinful behavior?

Thanks!

And why Catholic priesthood should be illegal as well?
An obvious pot-shot that doesn’t even have a remote connection with the post you responded to, belorg. If you’re going to poke fun at some of the shortcomings of the Church, atleast make it relevant to the posts. Otherwise, it’s a transparent act of immaturity.

And why Catholic priesthood should be illegal as well?
Really, belorg?

You’re going to try to equate a voluntary vocational life of celibacy with an inherently infertile union?

Not that I agree that the argument for “continuity of the country” is a good argument for the ban of SS marriage. But your attempt to correlate celibacy with infertility is a stretch to say the least.

My reply wasn’t to anything you said, Steve. It was a reply to 'the fly’s 'argument for continiuity in the country. If we follow The Fly’s logic, then celibacy should be illegal.
Now, I don’t think celibacy should be illegal, and I have respect for people, for whatever reason, choosing celibacy, and I also respect priest’s and nun’s decision to do so
As a matter of fact, as an atheist, I have respect for more things than you have.
