Why won’t all other Christians recognize the Roman Catholic Pope as their leader?

I would suggest you find a book by Joan Cruz, Eucharistic Miracles,or just do a Google search with that title. I think you would be amazed. But then again, maybe you would not be, for to be so you would have to open your mind and let go of your prejudices and hatred of the Catholic Church.
I think you fear what you might find if you really looked with open eyes.

And what if you come across a person who is not giving you an answer from the heart? i personally don’t think it’s that simple: ask someone and you will find the truth…the devil is always trying to deceive us, which means that there is the danger of being taught wrong.

God bless!

The point being is that much of what is said in the Bible is straightforward. You don’t need an interpreter to understand it. Especially the straightforward verses pertaining to faith and salvation/justification. Is this verse so difficult?Rom 4:4-5 “Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. But to the one who does not work, but **believes **in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,” Or what Jesus said:John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life."Those who find these verses difficult are usually those refuse to believe what they plainly say and the simplicity of their message.

So straight forward there are now 33,000 different christian denominations with as many interpretations and beliefs stemming from the same Bible. THATS what happens when you leave it to any single person’s interpretation.
THE Church has taught the same thing, believed the same thing since Peter.

Hello all, here is my short response to post #232, #234, and some general comments:

How many of these leaders were God…None. Now how many of these leaders actually said that this would happen (the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist)…None! Jesus did!

One can either accept the Bible or reject it, but once a person accepts the Bible, he/she must accept the “Real Presence” or deny and reject what is actually written in the Bible and reject what Jesus actually said.

Catholicism was a structured organization before the Protestant break and before the Orthodox break from the first and only, early Christian Church (Catholicism).

A “man” or a “group of men” made a decision to break from early Christianity (Catholicism). Where did these “men” derive their authority to do so and are not these “decision makers”, self-appointed, “infallible” “Popes” themselves? Why isn’t there a lot of “hoopla” over these “infallible men” who decided to break from the early Christian Church in the first place? Is it just assumed that these men and their beliefs were “Infallible”? It sure appears that way.

The only reason that most don’t know who these “decision makers” (against the early Church) are and what they actually did or said is that there seems be a disconnect by many of their followers with the past and a disconnect with early Christian history. This disconnect continues today in many non-Catholic Christian denominations with their own Christian history and founders of their own religions.

Many today have become a “religion of their own intellect”. Christianity has never been a democracy or “mob rule” or at least it was not suppose to be this way. Where is the “Christian Unity”? Not being united as One Christian Faith is anti-Biblical.

Moreover, for those who might argue the “everybody who believes in Jesus is “united”, this is not possible. United as One Christian Faith means to be “united” in one Christian belief…All of it! Not just the parts you like; I call this, “having God on His terms as apposed to having God on our terms."

I do not reject the early Christian Church, the early Christian “Fathers of the Church”, Christian history or anything in the Bible!

I chose to have God on His terms and that is why I am a Roman Catholic!

Thank you for your comments. 👍

I still do not understand the difference between someone referring to themselves as a catholic instead of a roman catholic. Does roman catholic mean you follow the pope? Does this mean that people who call themselves catholic (only) not follow the pope. Sorry to bring this up again, but I am new to the faith and don’t understand the difference as I thought all catholics followed the pope. After 30 years of adult life spent going to churches where everyone had a different opinion of what the scriptures say and how we should worship and live, constantly breaking up and forming new churches because they disagree, I find the idea of the authority of the pope absolutely wonderful! After a lot of study of the Bible, (thats what protestants do most) I believe its exactly what our Lord wanted when He said " I will build my church upon this rock." I wonder if Jimmy B could answer this since he signs as I am Roman Catholic.

Hello moondweller,

I personally see most of the Bible’s content as straightforward, but that doesn’t apply to everyone. If it was that easy to read the Bible and understand Christ’s teachings, then shouldn’t everyone understand the passages and believe?.. The reality doesn’t say so.

I somehow agree with you because the truth is that there are also those who are merely “blind” to the simple language of the Bible because of various reasons, such as pride.

God bless!

Infallibility has been excercised by the Apostles themsleves it is not anything new, only to the new protestant thinking that can only tradition there ever changing theology back 500 years max.

Read Acts 15:1 -29 (vs.17 b “Thus says the Lord who accomplishes these things, known from of old”,vs,28 It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us… (The apostles)

Infallibility was defined and doctrinated by the Catholic church to an already excercised belief, thus your bible comes from this infallibility authority, whether you accept this truth or not , you will know this faith on infallibility has alway been, and it will always be here until Jesus comes for his Church. More on this Later. I have to go.

Peace be with you.
Hello,

To me, the words of the Apostles are infallible because I believe they came from Jesus. However, reading the New Testament, I got the feeling that the Apostles did not go around telling people to believe because they were infallible when preaching. Moreover, if infallibility needed to be a doctrine, I believe the Apostles would have made it a priority, given that it is such a big word.

God bless!

Did you mean: Christianity was a structured organization before the Schism and the Reformation?.

Honestly, I don’t understand how you find it reasonable to say that the Orthodox broke away from the early Christian Church when all Christian denominations derive from Catholicism?

The beliefs of the different denoms(sic) aren’t nearly as far apart as some Catholics are from each other.

I suppose you will find the Catholic church in that, but I sure do not. More power to ya.
Quote=OneNow1 The church is not dependent on individuals, Jesus recognizes the problems we will face in the future, in his prayer. John 17: 26 I have made your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them and so that I may be in them.

Which translates into unbelief. They simply refuse to believe it. They stumble over the simplicity of Christ and salvation. Their pride says, “No, I must do something to merit my own salvation. God must see something wonderful in me.” And so rather than salvation they opt for religion.

I’m not sure you get the drift of what I’m saying. Human institutions are not a mystery; the Church is a mystery; the sacraments of the Church are mysteries. The two (human institutions and the Church) cannot be approached in the same way. All Christians believe Christ to be their leader. Roman Catholics say the Pope is the leader of the universal Church; Orthodox say the bishop is head of the Church. But whatever the case, with Catholics and Orthodox, the function of the bishop or Pope, acting in persona Christi (as the head of the Church) cannot properly be understood if compared with imperial models, since the Mystery of the Church must be understood in relation to the Mystery of Christ himself, which is beyond our knowing.

Most national governments have had at least one woman leader in their history. Rome has never had a female Pope (Pope Joan aside).

Pope is a Bishop, the “first of many”. The arguments between Orthodox and Catholic get into this. But there’s much more to it. I tried to justify become Orthodox because of the issue about the Pope. After further study, I discovered the hierarchy in the Orthodox Church is bascically the same. Even Eastern Church members are historicall known to have written and recognized/taught that the Bishop of Rome is the first of many".

The Holy Roman Catholic Church [actually implies the Western and Eastern Rites in communion with the Holy See of Rome - Pope]
Sorry Dwayne, gotta be nitpicky there and disagree with that. You won’t find “Roman Catholic Church” in any official documents of the Church when referring to the entire thingit is always Catholic Church, period. The whole Roman thing started as a pejorative slam against Catholics from the Anglicans. I don’t mind it when referring to the Latin rite alone, but I do think it’s incorrect when referring to the whole Catholic Church, despite what some of our Orthodox friends insist upon claiming. Call a Byzantine Rite Catholic “Roman Catholic” and see the strange look he gives you, lol.
And certainly the Orthodox consider themselves catholic, just as we consider ourselves orthodox.

I recently read an essay by Father Schmemann in which he does in fact mention how some Orthodox Churches, especially the Russian Orthodox Church, have functioned as though the Patriarch were in an exalted position over the other bishops. However, when it comes down to it, the Orthodox reject the belief that any bishop is any greater than another bishop in authority. Why? Because each bishop is the visible head of the local church. In Orthodox ecclesiology, each local church is in fact the fullness of the Church, as the Eucharist is the full Body of Christ and not a part. The bishop is the head of the local church, and by virtue of the Eucharist over which he presides in representation of Christ, he is acting as visible head of the Church.

The Eastern Orthodox acknowledge that the bishop of Rome has a priority, some would even say a primacy, but that it must be understood according to the canons and Patristic consensus. Where Orthodox have a great disagreement is universal jurisdiction of the Pope, since this would seem to suggest that there is a role above bishop, a role that is greater than the head of the Church as understood in her full local manifestation. The Pope is head of the Church of Rome, and were he Orthodox, a visible head of the Church. But he would be head no greater than any other Orthodox bishop.

I understand and read the same. However, this will have to be worked out through all of our Bishops, since I’m not even a deacon, [yet? :gopray: speaking of…:signofcross: ]

I feel that I could easily cross the line. But if I could leave and apostolical church once so easily, I can’t do it again this time. My wife would throw me on my head. And besides, I feel it more worthwhile to live out my life in peace and let the bishops have the reigns. I didn’t drive so good that last time I left the Church.😉

In my mind, I basically refuse to separate the Orthodox from the Catholic or visa versa. I beleive they are inseparable. I think of us as two sisters in a cat fight.😃 Need a visual?😊 We are catholic.

This is the view espoused by Louis Bouyer, O.P. and so many others. Yet, neither the Eastern Orthodox Church nor the Roman Catholic Church acknowledges the full orthodoxy of the other communion. Each remains committed to the view that the other has departed from the Apostolic Faith in one way or another.

The problem is I don’t have a miter. 😃
So I can’t put my :twocents: I just defend what I understand to be the truth. I’m more drawn to the Eastern Catholic side in Catholicism. But my wife is the real convert. I’m just a revert that got lost in this lack of good catechesis. I actually made steps to find a local Orthodox church to participate in the Liturgies. But dear wife is scared…and for good reason. The bearded men with such harsh tones with me over emails seemed too much for her to handle. She suffers anxiety attacks that approach out of control. Men in our former faith are quite harsh towards women, even when the man is wrong.

No response needed here, you have answered your own question.

I will add though that all properly Baptized Christians are all “brothers and sisters in Christ” even though their particular denominations are not in full union with the Roman Catholic Church. Most of these non-Catholic Christian denominations contain Christian truths, where the Roman Catholic Church is a fuller expression of Christian truth. Many of our sister catholic churches are very close to the Roman Rite, with just a few more hurdles to overcome. I pray for true Christian Unity, unity in Christian beliefs!

Moreover, I love, respect and admire the Orthodox (catholic), Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholomew. I also love, admire and respect many other “Protestant” leaders, although, as a Roman Catholic, I may not agree with everything that they say or write, I do agree with the “parts’ that are true. I hope this helps.

Take Care and God Bless You! 👍

Hello Madaglan,

I love women and I think that most of my posts here (at CAF) on the Virgin Mary will bear this out. None of the Apostles were women and I believe that “Pope Joan” was an "anti-Pope. I will try to find a reliable web site that addresses this and post it here.

Thank you for your post!

What you may not realize is that, the teaching of Jesus and or the Apostles become doctrine when the said teachings come under attack, by Rulers, kings, governments, and secularism. When the Catholiic church infallibly cannonized your bible, was for the purpose that bishops and or false teachers would stop using anti christian or teaching against the already belief that Jesus taught and the Apostles themselves handed down to the church, from other sources. The Catholic church, these are the books inspired of God and will be used for the Liturgy of the word of God and the Eucharistic liturgies.

Others here think, that because other councils, kept confirming these original cannonized books of the bible, throughout history it was not done infallibly. The reason for the synods was, because the books of the bible kept coming under attack, sometimes by Catholic theologians themselves. Note however at the conclusion of each council the same result was the original cannonized books of the bible which you hold in your hands today.

When you look at your bible and see how precious it is, Know this, Many Catholic Popes, bishops and religious gave up their Lives, and spilled there blood, for your bible. No other Christian protestant can make that claim, other than they removed books from the bible, and added to the scriptures.

Peace be with you.
