Why won’t non-Catholic Christians recite the Holy Rosary?
 
Because it seems as if the Blessed Theotokos is being prayed to…

Hi

I never read Jesus commanding about doing “Holy Rosary” from his own mouth or Jesus doing it himself; neither in the Quran nor in the NTBible; though both give accounts of Jesus life. Kindly quote from both respected Books for our benefit.

The Rosary is the prayer of the Gospels

The Prayer of the Rosary is a very powerful prayer, because it is the prayer of the Gospels. We are reminded to “Pray without ceasing”, 1Thessalonians 5:17 and that Jesus himself, “prayed a third time, saying the same thing again”, Matthew 26:44.

The Rosary predates any Protestant religion, with the first clear historical reference to the Rosary, dating back to 1221 and there is evidence that an ancient form of the Rosary existed in the 2nd century of Christianity, prior to the formation of the Bible.

For many centuries, the Rosary has been useful to Christians, to teach and know the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Early Christians had very limited access to the Bible until after the advent of the printing press in 1452, but they had the Rosary.

All Christians could benefit from the Rosary. Catholics, who recite the Rosary regularly, are familiar with the Gospels.

Plenty of non-Catholics do recite the Rosary - John Wesley (founder of Methodism) for one, and Zooey, CAF’s friendly local Methodist, not only recites it but makes them with/for the Rosary Army. 👍
 
why don’t most Catholics recite the rosary? Some can’t get into a meditative state of mind so it simply has no spiritual merit to them.
 
Probably because of the “Hail Mary”…I know that is why I do not recite it. I currently don’t believe in the intersession of Mary or of the saints.

But, someday I think I will try…if I ever learn.

Possible other reasons for Non-Catholics:
They don’t believe using prayer beads or pre-written prayers is right.
It’s too materialistic.
They think repetition is wrong.
It’s wrong to pray to anyone else besides God.

What a strange question. Why are you asking?

Rosary is Christian prayer beads - 50 beads for 50 times we say the ‘Hail Mary’ prayer. ‘Hail Mary’ is composed of actual verses from the Bible, mostly.

I know that Muslims use prayer beads, called the Misbaha or Tasbeeh, 99 beads for the 99 Names of Allah. Did Muhammad speak the words ‘Tasbeeh’ or ‘Misbaha’ from his mouth? If he didn’t, does it mean that you can’t or shouldn’t use them?

With due respect - the Koran cannot have anything to do with this discussion, since it is the book of Islam - and therefore, Christians do not recognize it as having anything remotely authoritative to say about Jesus.

Here is my very simple answer.

Was never raised catholic so I dont know it;)

I have read it on the forums and I simply dont see a need for me personally to recite it.
It doesnt mean anything to me probably because Im not catholic and do not have the same way of thought as you do.🤷

Its that simple for me.😃

Problem is - when you reason like that you can make anything in the Bible MEAN anything.

I do not pray the rosary, and I do not do so:

1: Because I do not pray to anyone else but God, and I do not practise necromancy (typo?) by invoking the dead - even if it is as a plea for intercession. To ask a living, breathing fellow Christian to pray for you can NOT compare to asking a dead person. The latter is necromancy, the first is not.

2: Matt 6:7.
The call in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 speaks NOTHING of the rosary, but calls us to pray unceasingly. Those two are not the same.

But, I HAVE, I must admit, used a rosary that a friend from the Roman church gave me as a birthday present (she even had it blessed by a priest…and that’s another question I have: What good is **that ** supposed to do?); I just used the first couple of stones, and excluded the “Hail Mary” and various other “catholic” prayers.

I am not opposed, therefore, to the use of the rosary itself - it is the WAY it is used, and what it is used FOR. Periodical prayers are NOT neccessarily and inherently bad.
 
Some of us do, Jimmy.

Episcopalians, Lutherans and Methodists often use a ‘Protestantized’ version of the 'Hail Mary" which leaves off the last half of the prayer (“Holy Mary, Mother of God . . . .”). As I understand it, that was a traditional form of the Hail Mary anyway–the ‘Mother of God’ portion was added-on at some point. Or they substitute the “Jesus prayer” in it’s place: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner”. (That’s a prayer which is even more ancient than the ‘Hail Mary’, I believe: it is widely used in Orthodoxy even today).

In the same vein, the last two Glorious Mysteries are often supplanted by something less-controversial: the ‘Eternal Rest of the Believer in Christ’ , and 'The Second Coming of Christ’ are good examples. Just depends upon how ‘catholic’ (with a deliberate small ‘c’) one happens to be. Many Episcopalians, like myself, find the Assumption only mildly objectionable. It is an ancient tradition of the Church, after all. It could be true. But it seems to distract from the central focus of the Gospel which is our Lord Jesus Christ.

Anyhow–just pointing out that you’ve made a sweeping assumption about we who are Protestants.
