Why won't non-Catholic Christians recite the Holy Rosary?

Tell me in what parallel universe would we only permitted to communicate with the dead in order to command them to rise from the dead? What kind of half-baked operation do you think God runs where that sort of nutty rule applies?
You hit this nail on the head, LilyM. justasking4 belongs to a fundamentalist anti-Catholic sect that is separated from the Apostolic tradition to such an extent that even some of the most basic elements of apostolic teaching are lost, such as the fact that souls are not sleeping in some “abode of the dead” until the end of time. The entire communion of saints is rejected.

You will also find that he is not here to learn, but to discourage people who are wanting to learn about Catholicism, and to post detraction and calumny. We have been over this praying to saints again and again. In spite of his outright rejection of Apostolic Teaching, he has some compulsion that keeps bringing him back. 🤷

In every case in the NT we are taught or exhorted to pray is always to God directly. There is never any appeal to pray to Paul, Stephen, James or Peter after they died. Rather is it always directed to Christ Who is our great High Priest Who intercedes for us.

You’re squirming like a cut snake - it’s not enough for you any more that Jesus (on numerous occasions) and Peter both spoke to the dead who heard them - as if that in itself doesn’t blow apart your theory that we aren’t allowed to communicate with the deceased.

Are you saying that when Jesus or Peter or anyone else raised the dead they were praying to them? If so, that cannot be supported by the contexts. Not only that, none of the writers ever used these passages to pray to dead. These would have been excellent passages to use if that were the case.
Now that we’ve scored that goal, at any rate, you just have to try to move the posts now and say that they have to speak to people to ‘died and stayed dead’.
Well how about these two - Jesus communicated with Moses, who was one who definitely died and stayed dead.
This example is not a prayer but a real visitation of Moses during the transfiguration.
The rich man prayed to Father Abraham, who definitely died and stayed dead. Note that his prayer for his brothers was unanswered, not because Abraham was unable to answer it, but because it would have done no good for him to answer it.
This to is not about praying to the dead but a parable about what a person does in this life has reamifications for the next.

I pray for those who have died like my father, grandparents, aborted children, aunts, uncles, anyone who comes to mind when I am on my morning Rosary Runs. It is not important to me if they can or cannot communicate with me. My belief is that my prayers are heard by God and all the saints with God.

Do the Scriptures teach this explicitedly?

Revelation 5:8 and Revelation 8:3-4.

Revelation 5:8 and Revelation 8:3-4 And more verses to follow…
Revelation 5:8:
8And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
There are WAY too many verses in the bible (old and new testament) that indicate that Saints are all those who are children of God. So those bowls, contain all of OUR prayers as saints. Not just those in Heaven. Still does not say that we can speak with those who have gone on ahead of us. The Holy Spirit is the One who intercedes for us:
Romans 8:27:
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
I am just not seeing the evidence that we can communicate with those who went on before.

My question to Catholics:

What can Mary or the Saints do for us that Jesus hasn’t already done?

I hope this hasn’t already been asked. Some of these promises are troubling to me (a Catholic)
Whosoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
This seems to point to Mary, rather than Christ. Are we to serve Mary?
The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish.
  1. Whosoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune.
This almost sounds superstitious to me…
I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
How can Mary deliver anyone to Heaven? Isn’t that God’s doing? Doesn’t this again point to Mary, rather than Christ?
You shall obtain all you ask of me by recitation of the Rosary.
What if it’s not God’s will? That doesn’t seem biblical. Again, it almost sounds superstitious.

there is an anglican rosary.

however, anglicans, episcopalians are part catholic and part protestant.

My question to Catholics:

Chris, Think about the significance of Mary as the Mother or God and then think about how women can find their worth as women by studying the heart of Mary. You have a great desire to end abortion and imagine what Mary represents as Christ’s Mother and how she travelled alone with Jesus in her womb to visit her cousin who was pregnant with John the Baptist.
What is God telling us about Mary and the role she plays in salvation? She brought Our Lord to us. She brought Life into the world of death.

I am the only Catholic to join my husbands family, and since i started hanging my Rosary on my rear view mirror i noticed some of his cousins started hanging one too… lol
i asked one of them if he knew the meaning of the Rosary, he shrugged, he figured it would be there for protection, since it has a ‘cross’ on it. So i said dont worry i’ll teach you to say it and you’ll increase your ‘protection’ a thousand fold!
However, he has been avoiding me since. 😦

My question to Catholics:

What can Mary or the Saints do for us that Jesus hasn’t already done?
You question is really not connected. The mission that Jesus accomplished is quite different from anything the saints can do for us.

Many people have already explained about how the saints can intercede and offer prayer along with us before the throne of God so I won’t repeat that argument. Instead let me take a slightly different approach.

Let’s say that you have a particular thing that you are hoping and praying for. You are seeking inspiration to help you pray. So you turn to your bible. You begin reading and some verse, or story catches your eye. It’s the story of some person of faith who was in a situation similar to yours, or is displaying traits that you wish you were better at. So you ponder on this story. You speak to God and say make me more like Peter, or Isaac, or whoever it is. You are praying that the inspiration of that saintly person helps to lift your prayer to God and that God helps you in whatever you are asking for.

In a similar way, We have a conon of saints who are, in many cases, known for a particular trait. Strength, perseverence, humility, submission and obedience, etc. When we look to that saint for “intercession” we are really doing something very similar to what you would do with the story in the Bible. We are looking at the saint’s particular strength. To how we would like to emulate that saint and we then ask for help from God through those saintly traits.

In your case, you might Say, "Heavenly Father, You know how Peter Fell and got back up again. Help me to Be Like Peter.
In our Case, We might Say, "Peter, You know how you fell and got back up again. Help me to be more like you.

In either case we are pondering on the same thing. The weakness of Peter in denial and the Strength of Peter in Repentance. We recognize our own Weakness and are focusing on Peter’s Strength to help bouy us up. We are not praying to Peter in the sense of worship, but rather as an example and focus for our prayers to God to help us and improve us.

It is important to remember that as children of the Kingdom, we are All alive in Christ. Both those of us sojourning on earth and those who have gone home. Since we all reside within the house of our Lord, there is no reason why we should not be able to talk with one another.

Peace
James

My question to Catholics:

What can Mary or the Saints do for us that Jesus hasn’t already done?
Complete what he has left for us to do!

First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone. This is good and pleasing to God our saviour, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2: 1,3

For this reason I kneel before the Father (patria/pater), from whom every family (God’s whole family) in heaven and on earth is named, that he may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory to be strenghtened with power through his Spirit in the inner self, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3, 14-19

Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said,“And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.”
Luke 1, 42-43

The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful.
James 5, 16

“Think of me, I beseech you, so that I may achieve with you the same fate of martyrdom.”
Hyppolytus of Rome [A.D. 204]

If it were only Jesus, my Bible, and me, I’m sure less than have the world would have been converted by now, if not even that many. 😉

Just because you may believe it does not mean its true though.

Revelation 5:8 and Revelation 8:3-4.
These passages are not about praying directly to some saints though.

The problem with using these passages is that in context they are not teaching about prayer to those who have died.

I am trying to get a rosary, even though I am not Catholic, I’d like something to pray with, but my parent is very strict Baptist, and will not allow me to get it, she thinks I am turning Catholic, which to be honest, I think I am too.

I have a question. You say you think you are turning Catholic. Does it feel like something is happening internally where something is growing and there is really no choice, except to go along for the ride of your life?
I love how you expressed yourself. You sounded so pure.
God Bless You.

Well, if you compare Catholic to Baptist, baptist is boring, or at least from what I see, I mean really, ou church is more of a town hall then it is a actual church. I lvoe the ideals of Catholocism:
  1. Much more detail, and ritualistic symbolism, and I love that.
  2. It is the first church
  3. It has scripture proof

Hello ChristianKnight,

I don’t know how old you are and I don’t want to know how old you are, so please, no personal information and if you are under 18, then please do not PM me.

Here is generally, what my advice is to children; obey your parents, unless they are asking you to commit a crime and, or to do something that will hurt you or someone else, or if you are the victim of a crime and they are telling to you not to report that crime.

Generally, it is not good keeping secrets from your parents, they are responsible for your well-being and they cannot protect you, if they do not know what’s going on with you, or what you are doing and who you are talking to. …

Do not talk with or correspond on the internet with adults, or any strangers, or provide any personal information over the internet.

Parents should always monitor their child’s internet activity.

If an adult “wants to be your friend”, you need to tell your parents immediately, it is not normal for an adult to have children (who are not their own) as their "friend”.

Parents are not allowed to knowingly turn their kids into criminals, or to knowingly victimize or allow others to victimize their children, or to abuse or neglect their own children.

Parents are allowed to tell their children, not to attend another Church, which is not their own.

We cannot choose our parents.

Now, in this context, CAF, Baptists are Christians too, and I am sure that there will be plenty of Baptists in heaven.

All persons who are at the age where they know right from wrong, are responsible for their own sins, just as they are, responsible for any crimes that they might commit.

Praying the Rosary is not a requirement, in order to go to heaven, it is not even a Catholic “requirement” and Rosary beads are not necessary to pray.

The forth Commandment does make it clear though, that we are to honor our mother and father.

God knows your situation.
