Why Would A Catholic Vote For A ProChoice Canidate?

Hardly. In my case, I realize that voting solely on the basis of professed anti-abortion basis results in no net gains against abortion.

The other social issues thus become far mor important, since on those issues the court is not going to toss out every restriction passed by a legislator.

And from where I sit, abortion has become MORE available during the Bush administration… over the counter pill, local pharmacist being fired for refusing to dispense it. So either Bush’s not a conservative, not pro-life, or is ineffectual or inept, or some combination of the above.
I bet you spend a fortune on Tums.😛

I didn’t see where that poster told Catholics to stop talking about the Holocaust. I think he or she was only asking for the faulty comparison of abortion to the Holocaust to stop. And I agree.
Sorry Pong I dont agree with you at all.
NO it should not stop. There are massive similarities.
Why are the holocaust victims more important than the in utero infants? The only difference is size.
Both type of victims are dehumanised. remember Roe v Wade? that said that the in utero infant is not human and therefore discardible. The Jewish people were dehumanised and then destroyed as were other 6 million victims.
Sorry Pong you have it wrong.
The slaughter of the Jews and others was a prefiguring of the slaughter to come in the second half of the 20th century. Abortion.

Dang, THE Nino hammered us with ALL caps in his last post. I reckon he was makin sure not to go unnoticed LOL.

What perspective would not consider a man who kills innocent human beings day after day to be a serial killer?
I doubt you can get a lot of people (well maybe a crowd of rabid pro-lifers) who would say a doctor who happens to do abortions is a serial killer, especially since it’s technically legal. Although I do understand your point and strong feelings on the subject.

Of course you can’t convict someone for doing something that’s legal!

But if it were illegal, the photographs of the aborted babies would go a long way to securing a conviction. Abortion is a grisly, bloody crime.

Why do you think the pro-choice crowd doesn’t want such photos shown?

The Vern man asked-

The Vernster asks a lotta succinct questions around here, but sadly most go unanswered by those that disagree with him. Often he he gets a REAL long essay, about this or that, and then a weather report.

People are naturally averse to killing humans… it is an evolved instinct.
Joshua Greene, a philosopher and cognitive neuroscientist, suggests that evolution equipped people with a revulsion to manhandling an innocent person. This instinct, he suggests, tends to overwhelm any utilitarian calculus that would tot up the lives saved and lost. The impulse against roughing up a fellow human would explain other examples in which people abjure killing one to save many, like euthanizing a hospital patient to harvest his organs and save five dying patients in need of transplants, or throwing someone out of a crowded lifeboat to keep it afloat

With the exception of Michael Steele who ran for Lt Gov of MD, I have never voted in a contest where there was a single candidate who protected life preborn, disabled, terminally ill or old. Between Bush/Cary in 2004, we could either choose choose Cary, an ex Catholic who dumped his legitamate wife for his sugar momma Tammy Faye wanna be who believed the woman should make the decision and not the government. (What would have happened if Lincoln had said each man should decide whether or not to free the slaves) Or we could vote for pro family, pro christian values Bush who would protect all life except prisoners, suspected or condemned terrorists, muslim, middle eastern, Iraqi or Afganistani.
Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t Jesus have made it on Homeland Securities hit list if He were walking the middle east now?
So who exactly should I vote for?

Ah, yes – demonize the pro-life candidates in order to justify voting for the pro-choice candidates.

So CAF is a 527 now… Basically, it says vote Republican because they are pro-life and voting pro-choice is a mortal sin…

But I do not consider myself a Democrat… I consider myself a godless liberal. If “Democrat” simply means “not Republican” I am a Democrat.

Is there an English translation of this post?😛

Ribozyme is trying as hard as anyone I have seen on here to cloud the issue that abortion is anything than what it is.

Never seen anyone talk around an issue so much.

English translation…ribozyme is a liberal democrat but ashamed of it

Look, I am saying that I HATE the Republican Party so much I could understand why people would vote against it despite their pro-life stance.

And note this:

He admits he’s driven by hatred, not by logic.

You know the difference between a psychotic and neurotic?

A psychotic thinks two and two is five.

A neurotic knows two and two is four – and he HATES it.😛

CAF is not a 527. They have not said to vote Republican at any time. CA does teach that we should vote pro-life. Do not represent their views. There are pro-life Democrats, though very few in number.

Problem is, I’ve read post on this very board that say that voting for a pro-life Democrat isn’t enough because the PARTY is pro-choice-on-abortion and that alone disqualifies their pro-life credentials. This was a while back, though, so perhaps people have changed their tune. I highly doubt it, though.

Personally, until I see concrete action to reduce the number of abortions to an effective zero, I give little to no credence to anyone’s claims to being “pro-life.” Which is, of course, not to say that I vote for people who are pro-choice on abortion because I don’t.

The tune will change when you purge your party of the senior, pro-abortion leadership.

A great deal is being done to reduce aborrtions. You don’t see it because you actively reject it. And you adopt “effective zero” as an excuse for not seeing it.

Ribozyme’s statement was that CAF is a 527, telling people to vote Republican due to pro-life issues. There are two ways to look at that - 1) he is claiming that Catholic Answers is a shill for the Republican party or 2) that he believes that CAF = the posters. The first is absolutely untrue. The second is a self-defeating argument, because clearly not all posters are Republican or support voting for Republicans.

The fact that some posters, self-included, are pro-life Republicans who encourage voting for pro-life Republicans, is not a reflection on Catholic Answers or CAF.

I have no idea why a Catholic who professes to follow the teachings of the Church would vote for pro choice. Or for that matter for euthanasia, gay marriage, stem cell research or cloning. To me those politicians who claim to be Catholic and do this are a disgrace.
