There is nothing wrong with polygamy. It has been practiced in Africa, the Orient, and Middle East for centuries. Jews and Muslims have been practising it in their religions for centuries. Even the early Christians used to practise it. Paul advises that a bishop should be “the husband of one wife”. Why would he say that, if the possibility didn’t exist for him to be the husband of more than one wife? If a Christian couldn’t have had more than one wife, why would he need to give them that advice? Was he thinking that they might appoint a heathen to be their bishop?
