So many people commit suicide every day. The Church teaches that these people are not always morally responsible for their suicide due to severe emotional distress, and the common opinion seems to be that the majority of them are not responsible.

God created us out of love. That’s what we’re taught. But why, then, would God create somebody knowing very well that their life would end with them being in such a horrible mental state that they do not want to live anymore? I have no doubt that many of these people would, if given the choice, prefer to not have been born at all. How can we say, then, that they were created out of love?

If life is such a beautiful gift that it’s worth going through all the suffering that sin brought upon the world, then why do we have suicide? Why is suicide such a problem? If it exists at all, it should be an extreme rarity, and exclusively performed by atheists. This is not the case.

How can a non-existent person want anything?..

In other words how could God know anything about an uncreated being made in His own image?

A warm welcome to the forum! 🙂

This is an excellent question. I pray for those with mental illness and had a friend who committed suicide. She would often say “I never asked to be born.” I will be interested in what others have to say.

I have a friend that is a messianic Jew (convert from Judaism , with strong catholic and Judaic leanings ). He has suffered from schizophrenia for 21 years now and he is in his early thirties . He has lived with the pain and agony of thoughts every day that his head is literally going to come off his shoulders .
His pain and suffering are so deep that he is brought to tears many a day in his life .
Yet he is one of the most caring , kind ,loving persons I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my life .

An example a few months ago when we face times on video , I saw him with tears in his eyes. I asked him what was wrong bro (he is like a brother to me). He said " I’m afraid for my 2 friends who are atheists that they will end up in hell, and I don’t want them to be there, I want all to be in God’s presence for eternity"

This is coming from a guy who has been called every cruel name in the book, been knocked out by his fellow student at a bus stop after school just so the bully can look good in front if his friends.

This guy is suffering in such extreme agony and torment and yet he still felt sorrow and empathy for his 2 atheist friends (even though they try every day to convince him God doesn’t exist, which finally cause him to put them on ignore ).

I have rarely in my life seen a heart like this . His mere presence in my life influenced my faith and the faith of many if his friends . To me it’s obvious why God created him. He is an angel brother to me.

The bible says that if you are humbled here on earth u shall be exalted in heaven and if you are exalted here you will be exalted in heaven.

One of the greatest joys of my life is that God for some reason gave me a bro like this guy . I did nothing to deserve him as a my bro but I’m sure glad God put him in my life .

He is one of God’s special ones 🙂
A pure angel

There are many illnesses that weaken or kill. Mental illness is one of them.

God does not create people who do not want to live. He creates people who want to live but become victims of malice or misfortune.

The OP presupposes that things should always go according to plan but in an immensely complex world tragedies and misfortunes are inevitable. How could it be otherwise?

Usually when someone says that we can both agree they are for some reason unhappy in this world.

Some and most because of their own mistakes, or sins, and for others mental illness that cannot be a making of their own.

Why God chooses to let some carry more crosses then others is unknown to human understanding.

But I believe that this is where people come to effect, we can somehow help those who do have problems.

Sometimes its giving them help, rather listening, helping physical with day to day living etc.

With others its just letting them know that they do count, do have a reason to be here. None of us asked to be here, None of us, but we need to understand we were created by God for a reason. And for most of us, it takes most of our life to figure it out, some never figure it out.

But our reason is pretty easy if you think about it, Wake up, what do you have to do? Work, help others etc.

For my husband the last 30 years it was to work to feed myself and our kids. My job was to raise those kids, teach them about God, and take care of their needs and my husbands.

We helped one another, now that our needs are fewer, the kid gone, I am finding another problem, my Mom is getting to be lets say a HANDFULL!!😃

I know in my heart she is beginning to lose it at times, and very very lonely, it is hard for her to admit.

But now I must pray and see if taking care of her at this time, is what God is asking of myself and my husband, and if it is, I must do so.

It will be by his grace that this will or will not happen. I will see, Soon!

So pray for me, and let us pray for those with mental illness, or loneliness, or fears, or whatever their problems in this world are.

And let us pray someday that we can all say Thank God that we were born, to be here to do Gods work in helping others. Its truly a state of mind!

And this is pretty much what I am saying, there is no reason for this. It is probably the bullying that causes most of his headaches. And this is unacceptable, yet a part of the world.

But it can be stopped, but who will be the one to take the measures to stop it, all it takes is one kid on the bus to stand up, and then others to stand up, and it ends.

The problem is kids are afraid if they take the pressure off of him, they will become the one to get it. Unfortunately it is the kids who are getting abused at their own home, that are taking out their anger on him. Sad but true.

My brother has been suicidal before. According to him, it wasn’t a case of not wanting to live, but being in such despair that he face life. All I can say is, his depressive states aren’t permenant. A majority of the time, he accepts and even enjoys life. I think depression, like all illness, is a result of the fall of man. God didn’t create him that way. It’s an effect of original sin. God created him for the same purpose for which he created us all. His purpose is to serve God in this life and hopefully live with Him forever in heaven. (Where there is no mental illness.)

…not to mention the affects of free will and the consequences of choice.

I did not choose to become autistic, but I manage it as best I can be being honest with myself and those around me.

Sometimes the consequences of my misadventures causes me grief and regret that tears at my mind and heart, but we all have such regrets. We all have to struggle to find meaning, love and a purpose to our lives.

Some simply have it harder than others.

Do you think that God knows fate of before or after creation? The first one is full design and the second one is impossible.

If we were to put things into proper perspective, none of us would want to live this life… ignorance is bliss, I guess. But some people would spend there eternity in this miserable and corrupt life if they could, caring nothing for Heaven.

And unfortunately as the saying goes suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Usually its having to face something that at the times seems impossible to face.
That is where God comes in NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE for God and with his help there is nothing that we cannot get through.

My Mom Lost my Brother and Dad within years. She will never get over it, and I told her that’s okay, BUT with the help of God you will get through it. And she did, and she does.

I think its a mistake to suggest that people who commit suicide do not want to live. They do want to live, just not in this world. Their personal experience of life is a heavy burden, and they wish to escape. Suicide is a form of escape; it’s just a very permanent one.

Jesus chose a harder life to show us that meaning and purpose are to be found even in suffering and death…

As a teacher and counselor, I really struggle with this. How many of those beautiful lives would have changed course and stepped back from the ledge if their guardian angel had appeared to them and reached out to touch them filling their heart with even a single instant of really being loved?

Given that, why aren’t they saved thus? What parent would value their child’s free will above their child’s life?

True, but the He can do just about anything He wants to, no?

He voluntarily chose to live a life that most of us today labor to escape.

Is God Omniscient or is God not Omniscient?

If God is Omniscient, does being Omniscient mean to know absolutely everything past, persent and future?

As far as, “In other words how could God know anything about an uncreated being”?

If God is Omniscient, how could God not know?
