because I am a Catholic

why on earth would I join a religion founded by arguably the most sadistic King ever to sit on the British throne?

Lol, please don’t take offence to my question… I am just interested on hearing different opinions on different faiths!

Please don’t take offense but I prefer the Church founded by Christ. It may be old, but it remains true. God bless.

Because the Catholic Church is the only Church founded by Christ.
All other “churches” were founded by men.

Ummm . . . lemme think . . . . uhhhh … Truth? Being human, I have an insatiable thirst for it.

You have an insatiable thirst for being which? Catholic or Anglican?

I assume you mean Catholic…

The antecedent of the pronoun “it” in my post is “Truth.” I was referring to the fact that the human intellect, by its nature, desires truth. The fullness of truth is revealed in Jesus Christ who established a Church to safeguard and promulgate truth to men in order that all might attain the communion with God and one another that God desires.

Honestly…I do not see how anyone…ever, could be duped into becoming Anglican…and I don’t understand how those raised Anglican do not convert to Catholicism…The whole existence of Anglicanism/Episcopalians is rooted in a Syphyllis infested, sex craved, self serving, hedonistic, overweight, control freak known as Henry VIII…a man once known as the Fidei Defensor, who quickly abandoned the Pope and the Church when he was not released from his sacramental vows to his wife. Why would anyone on God’s green earth follow such an obviously man made religion when they know the whole story.

The Anglican Church is having a huge crisis right now and is about to break apart into a number of factions over homosexuality, ordination of women and interpretation of scripture. Many of them are swimming the Tiber, as I once did!

Well, apart from the fact of their (already well-noted) thoroughly human founding, there’s the problem that they are a communion bound more by a liturgical book than any doctrine. This is what has enabled a significant minority within their communion to totally abandon biblical Christianity in favor of whatever secular culture happens to believe. They’ve provided plenty of examples over the last century, what with leading the charge to abolish Christian positions on contraception, women’s ordination, homosexuality, abortion, etc.

Lack of proper Holy Orders
Lack of True Doctrine
Established by a man not in the apostolic succession

This is my personal opinion, having been a member of the ECUSA for about five years and will be coming into the Church this Easter Vigil…

Because…

On the outside, it [meaning ECUSA from here on out] appears and wants to appear Catholic on the outside, but once in…no where near being Catholic.

I see alot of people who leave the Catholic Church, to go to ECUSA, just because they can’t get an annulment or don’t want to go through the process and do not like authority, especially with the Sacrament of Reconcilation.

It’s not the Church founded by Jesus Christ.

Because it allows openly gay people to be bishops and supports abortion.

Also, allows openly gays and lesbians to be Priests. or Rectors, or whatever.

There are reallly no beliefs outside of the Nicene Creed or Apostales Creed, therefore, opens the door to all these other issues, leaves too much up for personal interpretation, therefore causing muck in their church…and we can see what all is happening on the national level.

Rather than even mention Anglican more in this post I will say that one can only say that truth demands that there be one faith.

If there is a God then either it matters what belief system you are a part of or truth doesn’t matter and we can believe whatever we want. To believe whatever we want denies that Jesus even needed to come and teach anything, that the Bible needs to be believed or that God’s teaching means anything, so I must discard that and believe that truth is one and not opinion.

Therefore I go to the only faith that upholds truth as unchanging and upholds infallibility as necessary, or I deny God. I am Catholic because only Catholicism is perfect.

God Bless

👍

This, first of all, is why I could never be anything but Catholic.

And why not Anglicanism, in particular?

“Bishop” John Shelby Spong. 😛 Every time that guy opens his mouth, I have one more reason to thank God that I am not an Anglican. 😃

Well put. Amen to it all. (Ex 20 year veteran of the ECUSA).

I can’t argue against you saying it was founded by a man (with charector floors)… but I really am getting quite hurt/upset/disgusted with the whole flaming of the Anglicans. I know this is a Catholic board and I did want to hear your opinions, but to be honest I expected them to be a bit more civil. I won’t flame you on your own faith, because I do respect it (despite the fact I sometimes find it incredibly difficult to comprehend how you can live with some of your religious laws). But whatever happened to religious tolerence.

Your religions may be perfect, but is your faith and comprehension perfect within it?

It only exists because a terrible, horrible, murderous man wanted a divorce. In the best possible light, its a fence for fence sitters between protestantism and Catholicism. I was raised Anglican, then stopped practicing any faith for a long time.

But then why sit on the fence, when you realize protestantism is historically preposterous. They just started making stuff up.
