My brother left the CC for the Anglicans (NOTHING has gone well for him since) (The absolute truth). Regardless, he claims the Anglicans have a true apostolic succession, which I question. Anybody know if they do? For a while I was influenced by the protestants and ultimatly became a lapsed Catholic, but it did not last. The idea of joining another Church, knowing that all but the HCC are man made is repugnent. I would not want to be an Anglican for the same reason I would not be any kind of Protestant, no authority.

I have known some extremly faith filled protestants, people who really had the right idea about Christs love. But no protestant church has the power over satan that the HCC does. Maybe John Hagee can kick out a punk newbee, but if he encounters the legion that the Lord drove into the swine, he’s pork sausage, and lots of it. Yet all those bad boys run in terror from a Catholic preist. For me, it’s all about who the real sherrif is.

The RCC says that Anglicans do not. Anglicans say they do. Surprise.

I don’t understand how the Anglican church can have a valid Eucharist when they have rejected the very nature of the priesthood as well as what the Eucharist means. They don’t even have apostolic succession anymore.
That’s just it, they do not have a valid “eucharist.”

No, they do not. Anglicans broke Apostolic succession when they ordained bishops in defiance of the Pope.

Greetings all,

First off, I am new to this forum! I have been aware of Catholic Answers for years, but I have typically posted on Defenders of the Catholic Faith forum; now, I have wanted to give this a try. 🙂

As you may note, I am a former Roman Catholic who was received into the Episcopal Church. There are numerous reasons why I made such a move, primarily because I felt, after painful months of study, there were far too many contradictions in the Roman Catholic Church’s history to justify it’s claim as the sole vehicle of God’s will.

(Some examples being the Avignon Papacy and the Cathar Crusades/genocide)

Also, I still feel that the Roman Church (note: the ancients used this title as well, so I’m not being negative) retains doctrines that are just----spurious. And I say this not because “we live in modern times,” but because they seem to neglect the very nature of Jesus’s ministry of equality and justice before God.

(My primary example being the Prohibition of female clergy and the painful treatment of married men desiring to serve God.)

So, I hope that I can engage in positive debate with fellow Christians. Personally, I hope that we all will eventually b one, and not just through the medium of a superficial conference gathering.

God bless.

P.S. I especially address this to former Anglicans!

The crusade you speak was not without the church attempting to reason with the Cathars so lets get our history straight.

Innocent III’s attepted with diplomatic efforts first to roll back Catharism[1] for the king of France was at odds with the area in southern France and was met with little success and it was not until after the papal legate Pierre de Castelnau was murdered(by an agent serving the Cathar count of Toulouse) that a crusade commenced.

This is very much unlike that of the church of England where the Episcopal Church derives it’s roots and the murderous King Henry the 8th claiming himself to be head of the Catholic Church.

As far as the ordination of women your church does not stop there but ordains openly sexually active homosexual men and women; in others, same-sex unions are celebrated. However, on other issues such as abortion, the church has taken both sides of the debate.

On divorce they freely accept.

On contraception they freely accept

In order words if it feels good and is for conveince do it is Episcopal Church attitude.

The church you claim was built by King Henry the 8th on downright selfishness and evil. I and am sure Catharine of Aragon would agree.

I am a well read pupil of the Cathars, as I imagine you may be. Yes, the Pope did attempt peaceful resolutions for some time, even sending Berdard de Clairvaux into the “heretical” regions. Interestingly, while Bernard did condemn their doctrines, he recognized that the Cathar clergy (bon homme and bon femme) lived very apostolic, moral lives. He had limited success, but not the overwhelming victory Rome had prayed for.

Obviously that came to no avail. So, how did he respond? By authorizing a blood soaked crusade inundated with Northern nobles lusting after the rich lands of the Languedoc. At the town of Beziers, most of the Catholic inhabitants refused to depart the premises or give up their Cathar neighbors to the Crusading army. Instead, they were slaughtered alike by the thousands. This occured because the Pope’s legate Arnald-Amaury notoriously uttered, “Kill them all; God will know his own.”

And, Pierre de Castelnau was no innocent martyr; he was bullish in his approaches and managed to isolate and anger many inhabitants of the region. It wasn’t his goal, but his approach that got him murdered. I don’t condone the killing of otherwise innocent human beings, but he brought it upon himself for his arrogant disposition.

Science reveals to us that there are homosexual trends and couples throughout the animal kingdom, and it is no different in humanity. I can’t explain humanity, because it is almost as mysterious as the Almighty at times.

I myself am a heterosexual engaged to be married, but I stand with those honest people who, despite their natural disposition, want to serve Christ. I am not the judge of men- God is.

I, in no uncertain terms, condemn the actions of Henry VIII and his sinister ways, just as I denounce Popes who surrendered to the lusts and lustrous enticements of the materialistic world. However, I am able to move beyond my criticism of the Anglican/Episcopal Communion to see that it is a Church worthy of the original mission of Jesus Christ. Faith, Tradition, and Reason.

Frankly, I feel that the Anglican Communion should officially denounce the hateful legacy of Henry VIII.

From what I have seen, our Communion has not rejected the ministry or history of Jesus Christ. We do not eschew the Beatitudes or the Great Commission. We too are a people of the Resurrection.

But eventually, all the sane Churches need to compromise for the sake of Jesus’ ministry and will. The Roman Catholics will have to sacrifice some of their more spurious doctrines as well to achieve this- but, I fear all will remain as they are, Catholic, Protestant, or nutter (meaning fundamentalist). The world is in dire straits, regardless.

Christ clearly tells you in scripture to denounce sin and to tell those such committing homosexual acts (fornication) are not in like with Christ’s Church and not to accept them as unrepentant.

When did Christ tell the Apostles to brush the dirt from their sandals?

Christ does love the homosexual but does not accept the act of fornication. The Anglican Church and you from what you write accept this behavior and sin as being in line with God and Jesus’s teachings. Will you not help a man drowning for if you do not the penalty of your not helping but aiding him drown is death.

We are not animals and have a soul that remains alive well after our departure from this earth. We have a concious knowing right or wrong. Where it is judged to be heaven or hell is by us repenting, Our going out as deciples preaching the word of Christ and that is to include the condemnation of sin. Accepting Christ and His teachings along with those He clearly left in Charge through the Holy Spirit.

The Catholic Church as Christ gave us through Peter and the Apostles along with their successors is infallible but as Christ with the original 12 Apostles did have a devil amogst them (Judas).

Man is not infallible, the bible being a book cannot be called infallible for a book is that a book and cannot be right or wrong but is. Christ – His Church is . The Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is infallible for we are the Body and Christ is the Head. Holding unto Sacred Scripture, Sacred Teachings, and Sacred Traditions.

A bit of a stronger reaction, this former post! Must have hit a nerve- yes, we are highly advanced creatures who can hypothetically transcend our animal instincts- that is proof of our development from the early days of human civilization.

So with that said, I firmly encourage you, sir, to not date or take interest in women anymore. After all, that is an animal instict, to find attraction to the finer gender. I also suggest you to overcome that animalistic ritual of biological reproduction. Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? So to is it to say that people who, through no fault of their own, have found themselves naturally attracted to same gender individuals.

Look, if the Roman church can prove, without a doubt, that secular scientists have purposefully obstructed science and misconstrued facts about human sexuality, I will repent and rejoin the Vatican Communion.

After all the years I spent defending her, I just don’t believe the Roman Church owns the monopoly on salvation anymore. Her history is too contradictory to vindicate such a claim. She has done MARVELOUS works in her time as well, and I am the biggest fan of Pope John Paul II.

My answer goes as follow:
  • I don’t like “new” churches based on the personal opinion of one man.
  • When Jesus started His Church, He asked us to be one in this Church…to be the branches of One tree, not trees.
Actually am amazed at how people choose churches based on a single man few years ago.🤷

Your proposal isn’t ridiculous at all - many men and women in the Catholic Church do exactly that in order to become priests and members of religious orders. Also, there are many people who are called to the single life, and many married people who, from time to time in their marriages, find that they need to refrain from sexual relations for an extended period of time, due to separation or illness.

I’m not sure what “facts” science has ever presented to say that human beings who are not in valid marriages, or whose marriages are currently sexless, are, therefore, required to fornicate among themselves.

There is no known evolutionary advantage to having children out of wedlock, nor to purposely sterilizing the sex act.

There is also no known evolutionary advantage to homosexuality.

Perhaps you have misunderstood something? 🤷

As Christians we are to be held to a higher standard. Christ said to look at another women with lust in our heart is to committ adultery.

Yes we as man do sin but we repent from sin (to turn away) and try with all our heart, mind, and soul not to sin no more.

We cannot be in agreement with Christ’s teaching, accept or agree with one whom is clearly not in compliance with Christ’s teaching on the purposeful re-committing of sins aganist God and having no intention of turning away from such sins.

If you need for me to recite scripture on marriage and homosexuality and the definition of fornication I will if you requested it.

As far as not looking at a woman well I look at one everyday --my wife of 33 years.

It is when we have no intention to turn away and repent from sin that our soul is in jeopardy of hell.

Your statement on complacency then would be a license to fornicate and committ adultery. After all in your argument I being an animal is to spread my seed not among one woman but many.

Look sins of sexuality is the # 1 sin aganist God and if one anywhere states they never committed such a sin is a liar.
