I suppose I disagree about the [many] goals of schooling. Academic training is only one of the goals of schooling. (Anyone who teaches education at a college level will tell you that).
We are not talking about college level, teaching legal adults, many of whom are out on their own. This discussion is about high school age children.I suppose I disagree about the [many] goals of schooling. Academic training is only one of the goals of schooling. Which is the basic problem of education schools. They appear to place "social responsibility"ahead of everything else. Thus us employers get stuck with employees who feel very entitield, are very socially concious and have to be taught the basic skills that used to be acquired in High School. They cause huge friction is the office enviroment becuase they feel they know as much or more than the people who have been there for years -inlcuding their bosses. It takes about 3 months for them to realize they dont know everything, another three months to realize they dont know anything and then and only then can we start to work with them.I suppose I disagree about the [many] goals of schooling. Oh, spare me. People can be taught “social responsibility” and formal academics at the same time. School meets for eight hours a day. I can read, write, and be socially responsible, and I’m not the only one.Which is the basic problem of education schools. They appear to place "social responsibility"ahead of everything else. Yes, homosexuality is affirmed and activism is promoted. Anyone who doesn’t agree is homophobic. This is the typical organization that is found in high schools and colleges.

It’s easy for you to have that attitude since it is the employer that gets stuck teaching them what they should have been taught my first place. I have been in business for 27 years and the quality of students the education system turns out have dropped significantly since I started my business. But they sure are socially conscious.Oh, spare me. People can be taught “social responsibility” and formal academics at the same time. School meets for eight hours a day. One of the many definitions of Sponsor is:Do you realize that 20-30% of the teenagers that are homeless are gay. Where is the best place to reach these kids before this happens? Home–yes but we all know how that goes. Do you all remember being a teen? Did you all talk or feel comfortable talking to your parents about your sexuality? In the schools, with the guidance from loving and caring adults might be the only place these children feel safe talking about what they are experiencing. These teens that have asked your wife to be a sponsor must trust her–fantastic! As a Christian she will be an awesome sounding board for them to help them process what they are experiencing and point them in the correct direction for further information. God sometimes calls us to do things that we do not feel comfortable doing. If you recall this past weekends Gospel reading Matthew 16:21-28 don’t you think that the Apostles would of loved to change the subject to miracles, Sermon on the Mount…"Hey, Jesus lets go do some more miracles, saving people or lets talk about loving our neighbor. I am not feeling that comfortable with all this talk of “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Sometimes God calls us to do things that are not the “norm” for us but we are to minister to His people especially the children.
God Bless!
AMEN to vouchers!!!AMEN!!! The propensity for schools to wander outside their area of expertise and just teach is why I cry for a voucher system to help make it easier to get kids away from these centers of indoctrination and into an educational system.
And it is up the teachers to define “social responsibility”? Are you not getting confused, because we seem to be discussing “Moral Responsibility”. As many of the other posts suggest, and myself as a father of six, prefer my childrens moral development guided by the church through my wife and myself…at home. High School is a place for becoming educated, not for personal or private agenda’s.Oh, spare me. People can be taught “social responsibility” and formal academics at the same time. Unfortunatly this is the truest thing you have posted.I suppose I disagree about the [many] goals of schooling. Academic training is only one of the goals of schooling. (Anyone who teaches education at a college level will tell you that).
You nailed it. One has to get to the core presuppositions for clarity. The bald fact is that all these LGBT groups on campuses and elsewhere drink from modern liberal philosophy. And in that philosophy, the act of homosex is good–so anything they trot out ostensibly in the name of tolerance is going to based on that unstated but unmistakable premise. Unless the group has explicit language saying that homosex is wrong, Catholics should avoid any connection.**Think of other support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous…it starts with the basic premise that being an alcoholic (actively drinking) is bad
Yes, the other part consists of indoctrination.I suppose I disagree about the [many] goals of schooling. Academic training is only one of the goals of schooling. (Anyone who teaches education at a college level will tell you that).
Our local high school bragged about the number of students who went on to college. I raised a big stink with them saying the problem was that so few of there graduates were capable of getting a job. It seems like the governement run schools have an attitude of just pass them on and let the buisness community and higher education finish educating them.Which is the basic problem of education schools. They appear to place "social responsibility"ahead of everything else. All schools (and all parents) indoctrinate. Indoctrination is not always bad. Schools indoctrinate children to: be able to sit still for a while (important life skill), share (important life skill), wait their turn in conversation (imporant life skill), not be reckless with school property (important life skill). It’s the hidden curriculum and it’s not all bad.Yes, the other part consists of indoctrination.
And that is why teachers have so little respect. So many of them do not so much teach as they do brainwash.
You have aptly described the kindergarten curriculum. Unfortunately the way our schools system works many fail to bring even thes skills to their first job. And I didn’t indoctrinate my children. I raised them- my responsibility, not yours and most certainly not a teachers. All schools (and all parents) indoctrinate. Indoctrination is not always bad.
