I said nothing of teaching “tolerance,” which means saying that someone doing something you do not agree with is alright. Though I do think respect for the people around you and for the fact that they may have different beliefs/make different choices than you do is important so that all students can feel like it’s a supportive learning environment. Standing up for ANY kid who gets picked on has been a priority of mine in child care/teaching situations in the past, and I don’t see why I would ever change that. Students can’t learn if they feel the school environment is hostile.
