I go to UW-Milwaukee. We have around 30,000 students at UW-Milwaukee, so, it has a much larger student body than Marquette University a Jesuit run university with alumni that make big bucks, some are millionaires many times over with girlfriends, wives, big houses or expensive condos and children to carry on their name or watch over them in old age. Does not take a rocket scientist to figure out few to none of them would want to be a Bishop or Pope let alone a parish Priest, all of whom have a vow tied around, strangling their genitals.

I’ve considered one day becoming a Priest but not because I think it would mean I’d live the life of a rock star or Wall Street tycoon. And those last two I must admit are pretty attractive. Especially, being a Christian at the same time. Being a monk? Not so much.

So, the intellectual life of man is involved or can be involved in his religious life. So it was this Bishop began part of his journey not in seminary but as a biology major and pre-med student. Big bucks in having an M.D. after your name in the United States too. No shortage of voluptuous women looking to be your wife.

We don’t have alumni at UW-Milwaukee giving monetary gifts in the millions to like Marquette University does. UW-Milwaukee just doesn’t instill that kind of loyalty.

Lay people in Opus Dei. Note they seem to be alphas within their genders/sex and seem to be pretty grounded.

Here: I have no idea what she’s saying but she looks pretty good: youtube.com/watch?v=26k_s-tVA04&list=UUW6NIwuTbmo6Ic_W_mzNw7g&index=3 but this wasn’t the videos I was looking for.

Here is a Opus Dei site. Pretty attractive woman. Pretty well educated. Seems pretty grounded to me: opusdei.us/art.php?p=16055

(Emphasis mine)

I used to work with a lady who was a Jehovah’s Witness. They don’t believe in celebrating Christmas or birthdays, among other things. This could very well be the type of “church” your wife has gotten involved in. If so, I recommend you take some time while learning more about your Faith to focus specifically on how to refute JW beliefs.

The CA shop has some items that might help.

You could also do a search here in the forums for more information as well.
I pray that is not the case. Some more fundamentalist Protestants don’t celebrate Christmas either, but Jehovah’s Witnesses are no more Christian than are Mohammedans. If she’s gotten involved with them, you and the Holy Spirit have on your hands a fight against the very gates of Hell, the Devil himself. They have separate books of “Scripture” and their own Pope (the Watchtower), like Mormons do. If so, you no longer have a common God, and she has the spirit of antichrist (1 John: “if an man denieth that Jesus is the Son of God come in the flesh, he is antichrist”: that can be applied to anyone who denies the all-important Nicene Creed).

If that’s the case, you have to learn to refute JW beliefs, but JWs are easy to refute. So many failed prophecies, the Bible calls them point-blank FALSE PROPHETS.

If she’s become a fundamentalist Protestant, you still have a common Trinitarian faith, the same God, the same Christ, and the same Holy Spirit - the same God who sent his Son, the same Son who founded the Roman Catholic Church on the Rock of Peter, and the same Spirit who proceeds from the Father and from the Son who promised to lead the Roman Catholic Church in to all truth.

Church Militant has a great reply above…I would offer just one small change/alternative…Instead of having your bible out…use hers. There is nothing more convincing than having false doctrines dis-proven by using the protestant’s own bible.

Peace
James
I would also advise using her KJV, ESV, NASB, NIV, LBLA, NVI, or whatever it is she uses - the more literal, the better, because more free-wheeling Protestant translations have an inbuilt anti-Catholic bias.

The King James Bible is strongly Catholic, and is also beloved of many fundamentalist Protestants. I use it myself as my main Bible; it is a fair and unbiased translation, and thus it is as Catholic as the originals were.

If she is a JW and is using the “New World Translation”, it is so corrupted and mis-translated it’s very close to impossible to demonstrate any Christian doctrine (such as the deity of Christ) out of it. A NWT is the word of Satan, not the words of God.

YOU are the head of the family, according to God’s word and his plan for the family unit (1 Cor 11:3, 1 Tim 5:8, 1 Pet 3:7, Gen 3:16, Eph 5:25.) You, and you alone have the authority to dictate your family’s spiritual path, and you must take control of the reigns. As men, we are called to lay everything on the line for our wives and our family, just as Christ did for his Church. We have the greatest task of all, it is our responsibility to lead our wives and our children on a path too heaven…We should be slaves to our family, laboring to provide both physical and spiritual fruit. One of our responsibilities is to be the final decision maker in the family, any “Bible Only” believing person will agree with this. The only way you can be effective is to know your Bible and the teachings of the Church better than your wife does. I pray that the Holy Spirit may guide you along the way.
The man is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the Church…I suffer not a woman to usurp the man’s authority.

No, I was thinking a head. I’ve debated or discussed just about all things anti-Catholic with people online. Very recently on a philosophy forum. I draw from what I learned in boxing and bring it to debate. That is never allow your opponent to control the fight and fight his fight. You fight your fight.

Rarely do Catholics exhibit what in boxing would be called “ring generalship.”

The Protestant say, “Show me in the Bible where it says X.” And the Catholic jumps, and fights their opponent fight.

Anti-Catholic rhetoric is all pretty much the same. It’s probably easier with atheists though, because they focus on the finished product (ergo my link to Marquette University). With Protestants–one side of my family are Protestants–it’s more difficult because the finished, visual product, means little as their Church is invisible and works do not save but only faith and grace matter.

Nonetheless, I know human beings propensity to be drawn towards the attractive, accomplishments, status, “intelligence” and so forth.

Why would a Mexican or any person be enamored with the United States (the largest producer of porn in the world, huge illicit drug consumption etc.) except that they see the United States with all these universities and colleges producing wealthy professionals and Nobel prize winners. They see Americans with big houses “and lots of stuff.”

Or as liberal Catholics have accused Opus Dei of recruiting attractive and well educated people so that the appeal of Opus Dei is strong the those outside of it. They are right that physically attractive people, especially if combined with high social status, elite education, and respectable income earnings draw people to them.

One of the appeals of John Paul II in his younger years as Pope, to the non-Catholic world, was that he seemed to be more a “man’s man” that commanded the stage and liked to hike and be physically active. He was not hunchback, weak, and fragile.

One popular criticism of Catholicism is that Protestantism came about and created intellectuals and great achievements and freedom, while Catholics are poor, ignorant, superstitious, groveling, and probably unattractive if they’re short, poor, Amerindian women walking in the Andes with children wrapped around their back. It’s Card Stacking. But I will admit mainstream Protestant denominations have a great history of intellectual accomplishments and developing communities and nations for the better.

Card Stacking. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Card_stacking
Card stacking is a propaganda technique that seeks to manipulate audience perception of an issue by emphasizing one side and repressing another.[1] Such emphasis may be achieved through media bias or the use of one-sided testimonials, or by simply censoring the voices of critics. The technique is commonly used in persuasive speeches by political candidates to discredit their opponents and to make themselves seem more worthy.[2]
Guerrilla fighters will not play by the rules their opponent sets. And I won’t debate by the rules of the cards my opponent stacks. If you’re a non-denominational Christian then you better show me your local equivalent of Marquette University, you better show me your pastor or prophet as a physics major or doctoral student of physical anthropology that gave all that up to serve under a humble salary and discipline themselves severely sexually. You better show me the fruits Christ said I’ll know them by. And those are the rules we’re going to fight by. What I set in the ring. The cards I stack.

So nurses, physical therapists, engineers, journalists and accountants make big bucks?

The wealthy Catholics that I know…millionaires…yes…have been very charitable to the Church, Catholic schools and other community causes. God expects everyone to give of their talents, generously…
Does not take a rocket scientist to figure out few to none of them would want to be a Bishop or Pope let alone a parish Priest, all of whom have a vow tied around, strangling their genitals.
Perhaps God has already called his priests and Jesuits to be just that …instead of a secular life. And, I’ve met plenty priests who would have made big bucks doing something else…very smart people…

Its not about loyalty, it’s first about having the money and second, about giving back generously…nothing wrong with that…thank the Lord. Still, the point?

Time- do you know who Scott Hahn is?

Many Mexicans are culturally Catholic at best. They do not live their faith in any tangible way. They are Catholic the way a lot of Jews are Jewish - just as a matter of their upbringing but with little relevance to their everyday way of life.

The OP’s wife is not debating theology with him. She’s just floundering. You are bringing a Howitzer to a butter knife fight, my friend.

But I can see that you are well-armed for these apologetics battles. 🙂

Jumping in late. One error in liberals’ thinking about Opus Dei is sort of a cause / effect problem.

Yes Opus Dei has a lot of attractive, well educated people, and successful people.

But living the spirituality of Opus Dei tends to make them more attractive, well educated, and successful.

Living the ‘ordinary day’ for the love of God, in service to Him, with ever more generosity, humility, and naturalness, tends to form a person. They tend to understand that “little things” matter. They tend to add ‘order’ to things quietly. They pay attention to little details of hospitality and refinement. They make the best of what God gave them. They work hard, daily, on their virtues…patience, fortitude, humility, generosity, attentiveness to work, to details, to the value (natural and supernatural) of things.

This creates an ‘attractive’ environment. Their professional work products are well done; thoroughly and thoughtfully done. Work is not shoddy. It’s complete. Useful. Helpful. Done as an act of service to the people of God.

Punctuality and cheerfulness are considered basic acts of love and service to others they deal with.

Formation classes that are given are well structured, substantial, meaty, given by deeply competent, but always cheerful, people. There is sort of an understated but deeply competent way that’s encouraged. Formation isn’t for “self-mastery” so much as it’s preparing oneself to give to others at the highest level one can.

Such an ‘environment’ tends to attract others, many others. Humans tend to like order; we like cheerful people, people who self-deny, who have strong virtues, who clearly enjoy life, but who have a certain natural temperance about them, a detachment from the world.

This is a key aspect of the apostolate of Opus Dei.

The King James Version Bible is missing the dueterocanical books.

Not the original 1611 version. Thus, many using the KJV aren’t even using the complete written Word of God…and aren’t even using the original KJV. 🤷

I didn’t know there was a Catholic King James Bible. Is there a link to where I can buy one?
See body of message for links to editions.

No, it’s not, actually. Many modern printings of it are, but the original King James Bible included the entire canon of Scripture, and then some (I/III and II/IV Esdras). You can still get printings with the full canon from Cambridge, in the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible (which is available for a tenner as the “Penguin Bible” in paperback), the Cameo Reference Edition, the American Bible Society, and several others, and facsimiles of the original printing (with the full canon) from Hendrickson.

If you have a KJV Bible with only 66 books, you can get the KJV Apocrypha bound separately in several different editions, including a large-print, single-column, paragraphed one from Barnes and Noble, called “The Apocrypha: The Authorized Version of the Books that Are Not in the Bible”, and several ones from Hendrickson called simply “The Apocrypha”.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Any advice would be grately appreciatted.
Thank you,
Catolico Romano
Catolico Romano, I’ve read all your posts and the advice I have for you is this.
If a person’s religion is all about what they are against, and not what they are for, then that “religion” is suspect.
True faith unites, it doesn’t divide.
What you describe sounds like it goes far deeper than any religion or what church your wife prefers to go to.
I would seriously recomend family therapy.
Will pray for you.
