Wife keeps feeding me meat in Lent

Well, for USA Latin Catholics, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting (ages 18-59) and abstinence (age 14 on) for Catholics and Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence (age 14 on). Abstinence from meat is binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church. I am Byzantine Catholic and the norms are stricter. In Lent on every Wednesday and Friday we abstain from meat or meat byproducts, permitting the use of eggs and dairy products, but on Clean Monday and Good Friday, abstain from meat, eggs, and dairy products or any of their byproducts. Dispensations or commutations may be granted by priests.

Well I see you don’t want to upset your wife, but it may be time to tell her really how important it is to you …if it is? Put a sign up in the kitchen or something… I mean Lent is not for a long time so an effort can be made, perhaps as others say, make your own meals for Fridays of Lent . As for the sandwich thing, take the chicken out (or roast beef) and just eat the bread… we are meant to chose sacrifice when we can, or if you find that too hard then give the whole thing to a homeless person and buy yourself a new lunch. Still it is done now. Only one more Friday… you can do it!
What those Bishops did is an act of humility meant as a rarity not a regular thing. We have meatless Fridays all year around in the UK and so perhaps we learn the exceptions more… if travelling and a host provides you with a meat meal you are exempt as you cannot put your host to shame or inconvenience, the Bishops story is in a similar vein to that. Your wife is not your hostess as it is your own home. You could also go and buy some fish or vegetarian meal on Thursday evening on your way home and ask her to prepare it or prepare it yourself for the next day.

Wait, somebody who’s only been here for 4 months can edit thread titles?
Anybody with “regular” status, which is calculated by an algorithm and has very little to do with how long someone has been here or how often they post on the forum - in fact, those of us who post frequently are more likely to NOT have the status because we are more likely to get flagged or suspended and have our “regular” status taken away as a result - can edit thread titles.

The person to whom you’re referring just got temporarily suspended, so there goes his regular status and with it, his ability to edit thread titles for the time being, when he gets back.

I edited the title to remove “heathen”
Wait, somebody who’s only been here for 4 months can edit thread titles? That’s doesn’t seem right (no matter how often he posts, which I understand is the criteria), especially since the OP has explained that he used the term affectionately for his wife. That’s bad form IMO.
Amen, amen, amen!!

the OP has explained that he used the term affectionately for his wife.
I don’t get why people aren’t getting this. Then again, I often refer to any one of my children as a turkey or a hobo, so maybe I’m predisposed to getting it.

I probably called my husband things as a joke that I wouldn’t use to refer to him on this forum as someone would take it wrong. I’m sure I must have called him a heretic a couple times in 33 years of knowing him. He probably called me a papist or made some remark about Rome. We joked a lot. Others wouldn’t have seen it the same way.

Yeah, the OP made it clear that calling his wife a heathen was a joke. Can’t believe people got bent out of shape about it and took it literally.

I’m wondering if anyone else has a similar challenge and how they might deal with it, whether there’s a better way or no.
My girlfriend used to do that to me, made me really tasty steak and mushroom on Friday, so I stayed up till 12:01am Saturday morning then DESTROYED it. The tension surrounding the final 10 minute stare down from 11:51pm - 12:01am was sick.
That’s just wierd

Perhaps a friendly reminder poster on the fridge …

That fish looks so sassy. I’d definitely choose that one!

The"Meat Free Friday" if I weren’t Catholic, would make me think that meat was free at my local grocery store on Fridays.
