Wife keeps feeding me meat in Lent

On the other hand, make sure to note the times she does remember. Success begets success.
Today I had a major breakthrough with my husband who hasn’t fully reverted yet (but comes to Mass with me and at least has started crossing himself again). He thinks not eating meat during Lent is silly because it’s no sacrifice to eat expensive seafood, but he tried today. Dug into a rotisserie chicken mid day without thinking about it… and then realized what he had done. I told him that God doesn’t penalize us for minor brain farts. I also made sure to thank him for ordering seafood chowder and forgoing the bacon on his salad when we went out tonight.

Obedience is a virtue and it is supposed to be mutual.

The vow of “love, cherish, obey” is optional in weddings.
The traditional Catholic marriage vow doesn’t have the word “obey” in it even optionally. I believe you’re referring to some kind of Protestant vow as I have heard “love, honor and obey” or it being shortened to “love and honor” but never at a Catholic service have I heard either one.

Traditional Catholic vows say, “I, ___, take you, ___, for my lawful wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part.” Have heard these many times, including at my own wedding.

Are you sure? Because I try to be as obedient to my fiancées wishes as I expect her to be of mine. You married? In a relationship? Have any experience about which you’re speaking?
I was married 23 years and we didn’t “obey” each other. We were adults and we respected the dignity of each other.
It is impossible to have mutual “obedience”, but it is possible and desirable to have mutual respect.

Maybe the “obey” concept is seen differently by different generations. But I, in my interpretation of it, do not like it at all. We don’t have to obey anyone, not even God. We have free will. You don’t have to obey the law either. There are just penalties if you don’t

When you are a young child, you have to obey your parents.
When you join the military, you have to obey orders from your superior.
When you live in a jurisdiction, you have to obey their laws.

Obedience is not always a horrible concept, it just does not work well in a marriage.

Dating and engagement should be about ascertaining if you’re mutually compatible, not “obeying” one anothers wishes, though I notice that you “expect” her to obey your wishes, and you “try” to honor hers.
Marriage should be about mutual trust and respect. Obedience implies a relationship where one is more and the other less, hardly a two way street or a sign of true teamwork.

Experience: married 8 years.

Not a horrible concept. But we don’t have to obey the law. We can break it. We do have that capacity to break the law. Children can break their parents wishes. They have that ability. There are just things that result from this.

But yes, not in a marriage. Not right

Joking or not there is no place in a marriage for someone to call their spouse a heathen! If it is such a problem and have you suggested that you like someone else suggested and this board to take over the cooking on lent Fridays or help her cook and you make your meal separate ☺️

My husband loves and respects me. I love and respect him. Nobody obeys around here. We love and we try to do what the other one wants out of love.
Experience: 47 years married.

Remind her gently but firmly that meat is off limits on Lenten Fridays.

If you wanted to make it up to ME, there is a new Too Faced compact that has a pretty Peacock on the outside. Cosmetics speak louder than jewelry!

You might want to replace “obedient” to “respectful” or “courteous”

Honestly, I don’t use a whole of cosmetics now either. My basic daily “makeup” is a natural zinc oxide sunscreen & BOOM Stick Color with or without a blended other color Primitive lipstick. It is rare that I go full makeup as in my youth. I leave that for very special occasions.

I was all out for name brands in my youth. Now it’s BOOM by Cindy Joseph or something from the allnaturalcosmetics website or Primitive Makeup. The older I get, the less I care about name brands. Even my skin care is simple.
