FYI,a woman will use 2,000 words per day to a man’s 200…just sayin’😛
I think you left a 0 off those numbers.
It is something one half of the population has long suspected - and the other half always vocally denied. Women really do talk more than men.

In fact, women talk almost three times as much as men, with the average woman chalking up 20,000 words in a day - 13,000 more than the average man.
Women also speak more quickly, devote more bra(name removed by moderator)ower to chit-chat - and actually get a buzz out of hearing their own voices, a new book suggests.

The book - written by a female psychiatrist - says that inherent differences between the male and female brain explain why women are naturally more talkative than men.

In The Female Mind, Dr Luan Brizendine says women devote more brain cells to talking than men.

And, if that wasn’t enough, the simple act of talking triggers a flood of brain chemicals which give women a rush similar to that felt by heroin addicts when they get a high.

Dr Brizendine, a self-proclaimed feminist, says the differences can be traced back to the womb, where the sex hormone testosterone moulds the developing male brain.

The areas responsible for communication, emotion and memory are all pared back the unborn baby boy.

He married a talker. My sister could beat her out in a minute. Just smile and nod every now and then and daydream. You just need to appear to pay attention. If it bothers you too much just tell her but be prepared to help find other stuff to talk about. Talking and sharing is how women are wired to destess and communicate.

I’m sorry, but what is it with people here acting as if the chatter boxes are doing absolutely nothing wrong and everyone else just needs to suck it up?

It is at least somewhat rude and inconsiderate to talk excessively to the pont where others are seriously distracted and disturbed by it. Indeed it amounts to a form of noise pollution just like any other.

If you had the tv or radio on and were told by your husband or a guest that the noise of it bothered them would you say ‘we’ll that’s just me - I’m someone who needs a TV or radio constantly on, just put up with it’? I should hope not.

Yes there are people who are deathly silent as well, which is equally no good. However, the proper way to deal with it, especially in the context of a marriage, is to compromise rather than put all the burden on the more quiet partner.

The wife in this instance ought probably to allow for more peace and quiet, and chose her topics a little more carefully, and perhaps keep a diary or blog if she feels such a need to express everything that is in her mind. At the same time the husband ought to be a littlle more patient and understanding, and perhaps a bit more responsive as well.

nothing duck tape won’t solve.

I am the same as OP’s wife and honestly, some people just like to share their thoughts while others ponder their thoughts quietly.

I don’t think the wife has a problem per ce. Husband just needs to gently tell her that her stories are distracting him from his own peace of mind.

"Let me tell you about our mailman’s ex-wife’s boss. Well…he went to the grocery store and the cashier was telling him all about her son losing his job due to cut backs. He and his wife just bought a house last year and they are still paying on student loans…and…and… "

Mind you, I have never met any of these people and probably never will! These people are so far removed from any connection to our lives it is stunning. My failure to nod my head and say “that’s terrible” or at least a sympathetic grunt would be perceived as a lack of compassion. Lately, I have been saying “this is really none of my business”… That seems to help a little.👍

Perhaps you need to turn on the news. In front of her. Then, when they start talking about all the random junk that happens all over the country, announce loudly: “I don’t even know these people. What do I care?”

Among themselves women will take endlessly. If they find a man that seems to tolerate this chatter, they know that they have hit the holy grail and will not stop. You did not put an early stop to this, that is the problem. You have endured this “hell” beyond what most men can take.

The only thing to be done now is a long sit down with her to discuss what you will not take anymore. It will be a massive undertaking and expect the worst response because of how long it has persisted. Good luck and God speed.

Like!

What would she say if you said, “That’s terrible! What can we do to help these people?”

It does sound like her good will needs to be channeled more productively than just yakking about people in need.

Mike, my husband lovingly calls me on account for the things I do! If my husband felt the way you do I would want to know! I would NOT want to cause him to suffer:) A word of caution don’t say this has bothered you forever! It will hurt her feelings, and make her feel dumb that she didn’t know.

I would just say something like, “I was just thinking this morning that I have no interest in these stories about people I don’t know. I get impatient with them. Do you think you could share them with your lady friends instead? I would really appreciate it!” give hug here! 🙂

I’m sure she will try. The next time she starts in… touch her, which will get her attention, smile, and say, “It’s time to call a friend hon.” It will become the family joke!

If she has few opportunities to talk to others each day, maybe you can get her a facebook page!

And people wonder why I’ve never been in a relationship with a woman.

I was just with someone who talks about 3200 mph, and doesn’t seem to need to breathe at all.

It’s rather like standing under a waterfall.

All I could do was, “ummmm” and “hmmmmm” and pray for the deluge to stop.

Seriously, if the OP’s wife is like that? God bless him, I think I’d have to spend a LOT of time away from the house!!!

We do have good conversation on a fairly regular basis and we enjoy taking a lot of walks together, enjoying nature etc. It’s just that there are about 5 or 6 little three to four minute long stories each day about something going on in someone else’s life that I have absolutely no need to know about. All I can do is wonder, why is she telling me this? The last thing I want to do is hurt her feelings, but this is a lot like having a pebble in your favorite pair of shoes 😦 THIRTY THREE YEARS NOW!
Maybe she wants to share what is going on in her world. I’d bet money she is an external processor. Meaning she has to say things out loud to process what she thinks about it. It’s how her brain is wired. your goal is to get her to process with someone else! 👍

You could take a cue from Jesus and say, politely of course, “Woman, what has this got to do with you and me?” 😃

Yeah, and Jesus then went on to perform a miracle for those people. 😃

I thought the suggestion to ask what action could be taken was a good one. However, I don’t think the OP wants to be involved even more with these people that wife is talking about.

“Hell deserving sinner” … if you mean that you are a “hell-deserving-sinner”… then what are you complaining about? 😃
… if you mean that your religion is one of “hell-deserving-sinners”… then I envy you. 😃
… with all that said. Something tells me your sense of humor is letting you ride this one with style. More power to you.👍

My husband says, “OK, enough already” and I take his cue and shut up.😃
