I was thinking of getting WII Fit for my wife for Christmas, and wanted to get any reviews from users.
Thanks and God Bless

wii fit is cool. its a fun way to exercise. just be careful not to jump on the balance board or go to hard on it as the sensors are easy to break and hard to replace (well they are here not sure about in the U.S ) and for the same reason i wouldnt reccomend someone using it if they are over 100kg even though it says its within the weight range for use.
overall it is fun and works if you stick to it …have fun

My wife does spinning and hates the gym, I figured this might be something that she would enjoy using.

its a good alternative to going to the gym and theres more and more fitness games that go with the fit board

DD has it and her family use it constantly. I try it but I am hopeless, but even in the couple of weeks I stayed with them a got a bit better. For somebody who is sedentary it might get them moving, but it is discouraging. For someone who is looking for an indoor alternative to outdoor or gym stuff they are already doing, it is great.

They have every attachment known for WII and will probably get another one because they fight over it, and need one in the other room for the sports and games. Warning: the neighborhood kids spend a lot of time over there because of the WII-fit.

It is also more than just a work out for cardio, it also improves balance, coordination and flexibility–very important for us seniors. I am not ready to shell out to buy one (I am still at Sit and Be Fit on PBS level) but as an indoor exercise alternative for a family it is well worth it. WII has something that works along with the treadmill, too I think.

My wife just had a baby in July and is trying to tone up and get back into shape. I would just hate to get this for her and have her take it the wrong way. Would any of you be offended if you received this as a gift?

It has some balance games that are fun to do. Skiing and ski jumping are my favorites.

If she had expressed to you that she wants to get back into shape, I wouldn’t consider it offensive. Especially if you include games and other stuff besides the 'Fit" part of the game.

Mkipp, I am a much older lady and had gotten very unfit. I also have a very sedentary life style. I bought myself the whole Wii and Wii Fit just last week. I have been using it for 5 days now. It is the most fabulous fitness programme I have ever tried.

There has already been an improvement in my balance and I can climb the stairs at work without feeling breathless when I get to the top.

I love that I can choose my activities from muscle toning, to aerobic, to balance exercises. I have tried gym before, it worked, especially when there was an intern who became almost a personal trainer - you get a similar feeling with the Wii Fit on screen trainer. But I don’t enjoy gym as a general rule.

I also like that you can do just 10 minutes, or longer and can do one long session or lots of short ones.

For anyone who has expressed an interest in regaining fitness this would make a wonderful present. My DD, who had her second baby in October is watching my progress and will soon start a campaign for her DH to buy her one.

I’d agree with Sugabee, that as long as your wife has said she wants to get fit again, it would be a lovely present - and including a couple of games you know she would like would be good.

My wife hates video games, but did enjoy playing wii in the past. I just want to get her something that she will find fun and get use out of for fitness.

I have to confess to a love of video games. But even without that, I’m really finding Wii Fit fun to use and great for improving fitness in the privacy and comfort of my home, at my pace and in whatever time I have available. (I’m still rubbish at most activities, but am enjoying practising and improving. Oh, and I’m not a sports woman in any way, but the sporting type activities are fun to do as well.)

Get it! 😉

Be sure you get Wii Fit Plus, not just the regular Wii Fit. The game includes everything from the original Wii Fit, except Wii Fit Plus includes many more (and very fun) games and activities. It also include the ability to create your own workout routine, which was lacking in the original Wii Fit (necessitating that every single time you play you go back to the menu in between every single activity). I believe the Balance Board is the same.

My wife does not normally like video games, but she really likes the Wii and she especially loves Wii Fit Plus. Unlike some of the other workout games that can get a little monotonous after a while, the Wii Fit games are great fun. You can go skiing, ride a bike, run, hoola hoop, pretend your a chicken and fly around from one perch to the next, perform higher math with your bottom, and much, much more.

Okay, I know I sound like an advertisement. :o I just like the game a lot. I recommend it as a great gift for the wife. 👍

I am a spinner too. My parents have a Wii Fit. It’s fun for a while but I couldn’t see using it long term. IMO the music they use stinks. Good music is what helps motivates me when it comes to working out.

I would consider that she may take it the wrong way. Just having had a baby, hormones still out of wack and all, she may. I prefer impractical gifts from my husband (prefer…not get - ha!). Have you thought about a piece of jewelry that represents the new baby? Doesn’t have to be expensive…like I said, just a thought. 🙂

No idea what to buy her, i thought that she may like this. She wears very little jewelry, but I did get her a Pandora charm to represent our daughter.

I am a wife who hates video games. I might have fun playing one at someone else’s house, but, would NOT want to get this as a Christmas gift for me.

Get her something personal, something for her.

Get a Wii later as a family fun thing.

If you have the space, I’d get her a good stationary or recumbant bike perahps with an iPod. Much simpler to use than hooking up the Wii, finding the fitness board, etc. Do you have a basement?

A gym membership might be good to provided she can get out of the house.

Wii Fit is fun, but I just cant see using it to get in shape. (we have one…).Also, I would imagine that having to stay on that balance board is probably not the best thing either. Too limiting.

I don’t have Wii Fit, but my husband and I have had some fun weekday nights playing Guitar Hero and Mario Kart. 🙂

Well, I guess different strokes for different folks. 😉 I would far prefer to get a Wii and Wii Fit Plus (retail value of ~ $300) than to get a large piece of exercise equipment (which is probably more expensive) that I then have to find a place for. Plus, the Wii has other uses (like Mario Kart ;)).

I guess I should say that we only got Wii Fit Plus a week ago (early Christmas present :o), but so far my wife has been using it about an hour a day and really enjoys it. I suppose time will tell if the novelty will wear off, but right now she really likes it (and I do, too).

As the comments on this thread indicate, it may not be for everyone. The key is to know thy wife. 😉
