Will "Altar Girls" lead to Women Priests?

If you are going to use this verse to silence women, then you should also use the verses surrounding it to allow speaking in tongues, if you desire to be consistent.
Did anyone say you shouldn’t or can’t speak in tongues in order to convert? But contrast that with the Tower of Babel where people spoke a common language and God punished them by having them speak in different languages so that they all would miscommunicate with one another.

I think it was a kind and honorable thing for the new pope to do to pay respect to the poor fellow that only had a 3 week long reign! On top of it all, JPll is Polish as was my Dad - 1st generation.😉
mówisz w języku polskim przypadkiem?

Hey everybody…in the interest of Ecumenism…why can’t we all agree to disagree…just sit around the fire, strumming a guitar, and sing Koom-bye-ya??? LOL…just thought that would be funny
Sounds good. Is there a woman who would like to give a sermon? 🙂

…but I do honestly believe that women have distinctive roles that shouldn’t be blurred with the roles of men…and that women, in the end, willl be treated better and with more respect when they start acting like women again and leave the manly things to us, nasty, despicable, men!!!
As do I. However, I also believe that we should not blur the line between laity and clergy and hence my objection to many of the arguments used here. Altar servers are* not* priest. We can not, or should not, use the same criteria for determining what is appropriate. There are good arguments for keeping an all boy altar group. I just thing the women priest idea is not a valid one.

That is not a very Christlike post, but I forgive you anyway. I am just trying to catechize you about age-old Traditional Catholic truths. It’s a Spirital Work of Mercy, so I’m feeling pretty merciful and will overlook the personal insults! 😉

No. Females. In. The. Sancturary. Its really that simple folks. No females speaking in church either or having authority over men. There are OTHER Christ-ordained spheres for women to excel in, like pregnancy andchild rearing. Sorry if Traditional Catholicism conflicts with the golden calfs and of your Modernist world that the mass media is bringing into your living room every night. The TRUTHS OF GOD will not fail us if holy Men preach it and holy females listen!
No females speaking in the Church? Hmmmm…I think the Diocese of Charleston would disagree with you. There are female readers, and a one mass the responses are sung, led by a female…also, there are females (adult) who assist the priest…yes, on the altar with communion, both species. The Church is in the round and I liked it. Many women sat up front with their families. Many elderly women sat up front as well because it is difficult to manuver in the pews. My children were Christened there, made their first penance there and received Holy Communion there. My DH and I were married in that Church. I taught CCD for many years and sponsored many confirmation candidates there. You, are way out of line. If you like sack cloth and ashes, you are welcome to it.

Did you advise your wife to sit in silence? When you attended family and friends gatherings was she allowed to speak on topics such as politics, current events, world affairs, basic carpentry and plumbing skills? Was she allowed an education?

Are you “American”?

Been there, done that…now at 52, should I just let my mind meld into a blob of goo…???

Yet…too bad those “congregations” that claim to have the gift don’t use it properly and therefore do not follow St. Paul’s instructions for proper use of the gift and one can only be led to believe that they are either liars and frauds or led by the Evil One. Nice try again. You know pnewton…there are probably some that listen to everything you have to say just because you have a high post count…somewhat of an elder on these boards…but I find the lack of intellectual substance in your posts and your straw man arguments quite exhaustive. Try them on someone who doesn’t know the Church existed prior to Vatican II
Hold the phone there boy-o! pnewton, au claire and I and few others have come to disagreements about almost everything…but you have hit a low blow. pnewton is one of the traddyist on CAF and does speak and post very traditionalist and has links to prove it.

Now fair is fair…I find it odd that not only do you tick off an independent/moderate, who dares to use the gift of the Holy Spirit to “think for herself” (me)…you have ticked off the most “trad” posters. That speaks volumes to me.

You have leveled women to the most basic form of humanity…with no individual thought…no self expression…and have sequestered her to the “back of the Church” and to avoid eye contact with her parish priest…

Where oh where do you get your archaic thought process?

Female altar servers are here to stay…get used to the idea…or not.

It is my thought process that the mods watching this thread are waiting for you to dig a hole deep enough …so you can fall into it.

Here is a handy guide to the Catholic Mass for you women:

STAY IN THE NAVE. DO NOT COME INTO THE SANCTUARY.

Does your church not have a nave because it was built in a circle, or shaped like an octopus, or in whatever nonTradtional shape was the popular novelty last week? Then my advise is to stay on the side closer to the doors and farther away from the altar. That should be pretty easy, right? 😃 (If you get too confused and your church is too liberal then the alter is that Cranmer Table that the guy in the rainbow stole is saying some watereddown banal fabricated prayers over)

👍
Come on people! Surely I cannot be the first one to discover that we have a TROLL in among us! All this person does is repeat that women are not worthy to approach Christ, should sit in the back of the Church, and shouldn’t do anything else but get pregnant and raise children. He won’t respond back about women saints, nuns, etc. He’s simply on here to incite anger and stir up debate…

Most likely, he’s a banned revert like Dum_Spiro_Spero … with an axe to grind, which is what got them banned in the first place. It shouldn’t be too long now …

Well, I am continuing to read this thread but will not post.

Some of the posts are so outrageous that either the trolls are out or some people don’t know how to respectfully discuss things and are purposely loading their posts with insults and potshots.

I really dislike these comments about bearing and raising children. Especially from women (they demean other women unfairly).

Why?

Let me answer…

I have experience with management in a large company and over a handful of people. I also have experience as a dad at home raising his children and homeschooling.

One thing I am certain of is that it take someone with a managerial type of mentality to manage the kids and the household. It is like a little business where the one at home is doing everything. Your mind is sharp and you need to motivate yourself and manage yourself (most people at work have someone to do that for them).

I can understand a man saying this, if he has no experience here. I can understand a women who has no children saying this. But when I hear a woman who has kids saying this I think what a crock of pooh. (I am speaking in general terms and not addressing any one specifically)

These are the ignorant and shallow remarks of someone who is decidedly anti family and not Catholic IMHO. It is sooo upsetting and I blame people like this for the anti life mentality this country has. Abortion, divorce and contraception. Now “gay marriage”. When we sell Christian values so easily when sell out the whole country for a Sodom and Gomorrah mentality, the loss of Christian values is bound to overwhelm.

Whoa there Jack…totally…zipped over the point.

My children have been raised…been there done that. I am 52…no more children…“hello”??? that is over with.

I was responding to the poster who stated that women are in service to men and to bear children. The bearing children part is over. Now…do I just let my mind meld into a glob of goo…because that part of my life is complete?

???Was John Paul the Great wrong? I don’t think so. Should he have had the same mind set as St. Paul? He didn’t live 2000 years ago under the same social conditions. St. Paul did not have 2000 years of Church history to mull over. St. Paul is one Apostle. What about your own fully formed conscience where you were required to do some keep personal searching about Truth?
The Truth does not change to fit social conditions, The Truth does not adapt to the times, suhc a Truth would be utterly worthless.

The Truth is the Truth for all times, now did JPII reject the Truth taught by St. Paul the Apostle?

Or have you misunderstood St. Paul and JPII do you think?

The Truth forms my conscience, my conscience does not form what is truth otherwise truth would be relative to each individual and again would be utterly worthless.

Thing is… if you are not bearing or raising children then How Does This affect you???

If you are a grandmother and have no chidlren then that remark does not seem to be pointed at you.

But when we say staying at home to raise and bear children turn a mind to goo… well, that is bologna.

Jack…that was not my meaning. I am not a grandmother…yet. My mother was a sahm, however in the economy my chidren grew up in and in this current economy… I was not. I worked outside the home.

How does it affect me? Ok…I was “responding” to the post about the “remark” that “women are in service to men” and to “bear children”.

My comment was “the bearing children part is over”…soooooo…in asking the poster…“what do I do, now?”

I’m sorry for jumping the gun on John Paul’s Sainthood.
Maybe helping bring down the Iron Curtain doesn’t count, or having millions of people who aren’t Catholic admire and love him either. Myself, I don’t want to see Pius X anywhere. IMHO as the saying goes.
🤷

PS, the new Catholic University in San Diego is named “John Paul the Great” University.
That man you don’t want to see anywhere is a Saint of the Church, do we pick our own saints now to like we pick which parts of the faith to follow and which parts to reject?

I do not see where women are in service to men.

But I would like to think that both the husband and wife are in service to each other. They do give themselves to their spouse after all.

I have not personally insulted anyone…I am following the forum rules and last time I checked, it was certainly proper to speak the truth. Let me ask you…how are you so sure female altar servers are here to stay? Your feelings are going to be hurt so badly when the plug is pulled on them…if they still have me around on here, I would like for you to give me an apology. Soon, you and those like minded, will realize you have been wrong in a lot of ways.

I agree with your last line. See above. This is what I was responding to.
