I was looking at candidates for the upcoming election and noticed that there is a Catholic interest group called “NETWORK - A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby”. Here is how they analyze the issues and candidates: (networklobby.org/issues/background.html#analyze)
I looked them up on vote-smart.org to see how they rate various members of congress: vote-smart.org/issue_rating_detail.php?sig_id=004052M.
I don’t know how your state stacks up, but in Colorado, most of the congressmen who are against destroying embryos for stem cell research, against abortion, and against gay marriage all got a rating of 0, while those congressmen who do mostly were rated 100. Social justice? Give me a break!
I don’t know what the plans are of Catholic Action, but a legitimately Catholic organization such as they would do a huge service to Catholics by rating the candidates against the 5 non-negotiables. Perhaps they could even get themselves onto vote-smart.org. Currently the only “Catholic” one is the bogusly Catholic one called NETWORK.
