But that aside what in Carter’s resume leads you to believe he could manage anything effectively? He probably thinks the Iranian elections were fair and democratic.
Carter does his habitat work very well and is a great person for that work. However, he called for supervision by other countries of our last elections. He is really full of himself IMHO. I don’t appreciate his looking the other way when it comes to dictators.

Issues of Sheehan notwithstanding, just perusing some of the posts in this thread and throughout this news/political discussion forum tells me the Democrat party is still attatched at the hip to the leftists and liberals. They won’t regain the White House nor control of Congress again as long as this is the case.

Right now, the Democrat Party is locked into a negative only mode where it needs bad news for the nation to gain support vs gaining support over viable ideas and solutions. Between that and their weakness on faith-based values and national defense, they are going to keep losing elections by greater and greater margins until either the Democrat Party is destroyed (my predicition is it’s gone in 20 years or less) or the leftists and liberals are removed from the party leadership.

I concur. Outside of his Habitat work, IMO, Jimmy Carter has been a disgraceful ex-President. As awful a President as he was, he’s been a worse ex-President.

I find it unfair to label her the “face of democrats” If this is gonna be, then whats good for the goose is good for the gander. Wouldnt it be fair then to say Pat Robertson is the face of the RNC? Makes more sense to me.
Did you read the article? George Will’s point is that an outspoken minority can become the face of the party if the majority does not actively resist it. He points back to the John Birch Society in the 1960’s, whose conspiracy-mongering was an embarassment to the rest of the conservative movement. Conservatives, led by William F. Buckley, took action and publicly rejected the John Birch Society. The opposition will ALWAYS use an outlier like Sheehan, Moore, the JBS, or, yes, Robertson, to try to impugn the whole party.

And that is exactly why many many Republicans are distancing themselves from Robertson. Of course Democrats will try to make Robertson into the “face of the Republicans”, and Republicans will continue to forcefully reject that characterization.

Wills’ question is why don’t more Democrat leaders forcefully reject being lumped in with Sheehan and Moore?

I agree that he is a nice guy who means well. But when it comes to foreign policy I trust him about as far as I can throw one of those habitats. 😉
