If you don’t believe that someone exists, why would you care what they even think of you?

God has immense love for everyone of his creations, including you. If you don’t believe in his existence, then why believe in his love or being sent to hell? Again, if you don’t believe in God, why are you even concern about this?
I was wondering the same thing  If there is no “god” then you should have no fear of being sent to hell.
You are actually covering the possibility that when you die, you will be sent to hell because you didn’t exert yourself to find out.
I would read about Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross for our salvation, in the Bible…then say an honest prayer to Jesus saying, if He is real, to guide you to the right person who will let you see the Truth! “Ask, and you shall receive.” The Lord will not leave you out in the cold. If you make a sincere prayer, I believe you will receive an answer.

Not believing in the one true God doesn’t automatically send a person to hell, if it is the result of invincible ignorance.

Todd977 can I ask where you got that from? (I don’t know how to quote someone)

(I figured it out)

I feel that statement is soo dangerous …when your standing at judgement and asked why you didn’t believe I don’t think the excuse “a guy on the Internet said it was ok because I was invincibly ignorant” is gonna fly.

Why don’t we all pray for the original poster to have their eyes opened
Matthew 18:19 where 2 or more are gathered in my name there am I in the midst of them

I doubt G-d operates tit for tat in the same way humans too often do.
I’m not so sure about that in this case.
Matthew 10:32-33 (NABRE)
Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.
From the original post, it seems that by merit of being a good person one may earn his way to heaven. ie, one’s salvation is justified by his good actions. However, this is contrary to what we read in Scripture.

God’s idea of a “good guy” might be very different from yours.

Most non-believers nowadays get many of their values from the media, even if they’re not aware of it. TV shows dish out hour after hour of plots where, for example, unmarried people cohabitate without any thought of it being immoral. When you’ve grown up being fed a daily dose of this programming you end up using it to establish your own moral benchmarks. But things like cohabitation, same-sex relationships and abortion are extremely grave sins in God’s eyes, despite what modern society may say.

So a person might think that because he doesn’t do illegal things like rob banks or sell drugs, he’s basically a “good person.” From God’s point of view, however, he may have very grave sins piled sky high.

Ultimately, people go to hell because they don’t repent of their sins. But without faith how will you even begin to understand the condition of your soul and see your need to seek God’s mercy?
This is exactly what I was thinking. 👍

If you reject God, He will reject you.
The thing is most people today who supposedly reject God aren’t really rejecting Him at all. They are rejected the disgusting, blasphemous image of God they get from people who call themselves His believers. God said “My Name is blasphemed among the nations because of you.” So we are the ones who will have to answer for that not the people who reject this false idol of our own twisted imagination.

This is not a tit for tat or a twisted imagination. If you decide not to care about God in this life, do you think He would call you to Paradise in the next life?

Belief and faith are not the same…you can have belief that God exists…that type of belief is not enough for salvation…after all…satan…also has this type of belief…satan knows God exists…however, belief that declares that Jesus is Lord and Son of the one true God in union with the Holy Spirit is faith belief and that is needed for salvation. Faith is required for this belief and it is a gift that requires direct revelation from God. Hope this helps a little. If not let me know and I will try a little harder.

Please pray for me a sinner.

Hello GamingBro.
I’m a non believer in god and I would say that I am a pretty good person. I wonder though if god would send me to hell even though I’m a good guy?
Yes, you will go to Hell.

Congratulations. You believe something, but not everything. Keep working on it and maybe someday you’ll find yourself with the Gift of Faith.

I would say that if you decide not to care about God because of the blasphemous things His “believers” say about Him then I would say you don’t have culpability. That culpability passes to the ones who distort Him.

Maybe some culpability, but not completely. But how can you know for sure anyway? You ain’t God. 😉

God is much more than just a name anyway. I would imagine those people who were turned off by His Pharasaical believers, would still be held responsible for following the natural law a.k.a their conscience. These laws are written on the hearts of all men, so no one is entirely off the hook.

Does a person love Justice? Mercy? Loving others rather than objectifying them? Even if these people dont know God by His name, it still seems they love God because they love all the things God is.

These are just my personal thoughts.

Who is closer to God, the atheist who is honest and loves their neighbor and does good works or the Christian who preaches a slanderous version of God? It seems to me in this thread we are talking about intellectual assent, saying “yes, I believe in God”, not simply following the law written on our hearts. How can you give intellectual assent when the only imagine of God you’ve ever been given is not only wrong but twisted and blasphemous? Moreover why would God hold someone responsible for failure to give assent based on such faulty information?

No one here can judge you. But I recommend you wear a Kevlar suit.

You have not given enough information. Does the atheist also believe, for example, that pornography, maturbation, sleeping with prostitutes, lust, doing drugs, fornication, adultery, cohabitation, are are wrongful practices? If he does not, then he does not love his neighbor, for all of these practices are selfish and objectifying. Nothing loving there.

Does the Christian who you claim, preaches this “slanderous” version of God, have the wellbeing of his neighbor in mind? Or is he trying to justify himself?

An atheist who resembles Mother Theresa in acts of supreme charity and then cheats on his wife after work or uses pornography, isnt exactly the definition of a “good person.”

An average joe Christian who does little unselfish acts and tries to hold himself accountable to the teachings without making excuses, is the one who is doing more to love his neighbor. This is closer to God IMO. Of course the roles can always be reversed, too. In which case, as I said, God is more than just a name. If one loves all that God stands for, then they love God.
