ROME — As the Oct. 10 announcement of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize approaches, Pope Francis’ chances might have taken a hit yesterday: the director of The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) announced him a favorite, but the outfit doesn’t have a good record of picking winners.

The Argentinian pontiff, together with former NSA agent Edward Snowden and the Pakistani activist Malala Yusafzai, has been considered among the top contenders since the Norwegian Nobel Committee closed the nomination list Feb. 1.

As is customary, the renowned Oslo-based PRIO revealed its president’s predictions on Thursday, which although well-formed, is often unreliable. For the past decade, only one of PRIO’s favorites, former US vice president Al Gore, has won the much-coveted prize — in 2007.

The Peace Prize is rather absurd considering that Yasir Arafat was given the award. Also, President Obama got the award even though he had a “kill list” and hadn’t done anything to earn the award.

I feel blessed that we have Pope Francis and whether a clumsy politically corrupt committee wants to given in an award or not just doesn’t concern me one bit. 😃

Pope Francis is a nice man and a good Pope but he hasn’t done anything to deserve a Nobel Prize. Why was he nominated?

If they try to give him the bogus “Nobel Peace Prize”, I hope he refuses to accept!

I hope not and if he does win it I hope he rejects it. Everything you need to know about how specious this reward is to realize Yassar Arafat got one and Ronald Regan did not.

Now you can all rest easy; the Pope didn’t win. They did give it to two very deserving people, although I’m not sure the peace prize is the best acknowledgement of their activities.
