Commentary by Deal HudsonNovember 2, 2010 (InsideCatholic.com) - Last week, the USCCB issued its “Review and Renewal of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.” The document contains a series of recommendations to reform CCHD grant awards in response to alarming disclosures that…

The bishops will be studying it THIS YEAR and supposedly give the money next year to primarily Catholic organizations and will closely study the others.

I have no faith in this. This year again I will not give to their collection but to other organizations that do help the poor such as CRS.

Reform the CCHD Now Coalition has reported that they do NOT recommend giving any money this year…the reform has been a sham.

You might want to check out your donations to CRS. Over the years they had been our major charity but no longer. Not since we found out there is a connection between them and the Gates and Warren Buffet Foundations. This is old news and was reported the beginning of the year by a pro-life group. I think many of the big Catholic charities are now compromised. And be very careful of anything that contains the words “Justice and Peace” because these groups are usually politically motivated.

We are waiting to see if our bishop will allow the CCHD collection this year. If he does not allow it, we will give the money to our diocese. If they take up the collection as usual, of course we will not give, and neither will we donate to the Diocesan Ministry Fund. Sorry, but that’s the way it works. There are just too many suspicious and unanswered questions that deserve answers before we will help fund any more abortions because our bishops say they didn’t know what these groups were up to.

The CCHD is made up of a bunch of libs. Libs lie. You can’t believe a word they say.

Well, the CCHD Review and Renewal highlighted a few groups that, according to the USCCB do "remarkable work. " (from page 2 of THEIR document!)
“Here are just a few examples of CCHD‟s remarkable work:
 The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is an organization of Latino, and Haitian migrant farm workers.”.

http://www.reformcchdnow.com/report_11_4_10_renewal.pdf
CIW participates with USSF. Here’s what’s on THEIR agenda :

"The Reform CCHD Now coalition has reported that 21 CCHD grantees from the 2009 grants list participated in the US Social Forum 2010 (USSF). Included in that report is the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. USSF is a forum specifically designed to unify progressive activist groups toward “setting a national agenda”. And what does that agenda entail?
Abortion:
Reproductive Justice 101: Creative Vision, Innovative Strategies, and Powerful Networks

Maintaining abortion as a reproductive right for low-income women
Reproductive Justice in the Age of Obama
Marxism:
Marxism for the 21st Century: Capitalist Crisis, Socialist Solutions
Why Capitalism is Organized Crime & Socialism is the Alternative
Meet the YCL (Young Communist League)
Lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer workshops:
Integrating LGBT Equality into Social, Racial & Socio-Economic Justice Movements
Radical Queer Festivals
Queer Injustice: The Criminalization of LGBT People in United States

Thanks, Angels Watchin…I’ll just add the above to my ever-growing collection!

I agree 100% Tiggs. And also, I used to give to the Salvation Army but their national organization approves abortion, so that’s out.

I think it’s best to research the organizations. Thanks for the tip on CRS. I think perhaps “Food for the Poor” may be good, and some of the organizations mentioned on EWTN(particularly the ones Fr. Benedict’s Friars minister to might be good.

And I think we need to let CRS know the reason that some of us Catholics will not be giving and also the Salvation Army who up to now I thought was pretty good.

I wouldn’t give to the Salvation Army because they are a Protestant denomination and I don’t fund Protestants.

Yes they are, but they do give to poor people and Protestant’s are God’s children too! The only reason I am stopping is their national funding for abortion.

There is another local relief society that I give money for Thanksgiving and Christmas as they give dinners to the homeless no matter what religion they are.

I believe that Jesus said to give to the poor, but I don’t remember him telling his followers only if they are Jewish or Christian.

Some of the local Catholic organizations we have are “progressive” and I don’t believe the money is spent wisely.

Red herring.

Planned Parenthood provides breast cancer screening. That doesn’t mean I’m free to donate to Planned Parenthood, or that I have anything against helping women detect breast cancer.

The Salvation Army funds Planned Parenthood.

I don’t have to fund anti-Catholics, especially those who fund abortion. I can help the poor in other ways.

How would you go about finding which organisations are safe to fund that don’t directly or indirectly help out areas that go against church teachings?

The USCCB just appointed a theologian for consulting with the CCHD office to strengthen Catholic identity (source). And he’s a good theologian, it appears.

We should be encourgaed that the bishops are addressing the issue seriously and taking these steps. Change may not happen overnight, but it is happening. Be of good cheer. 🙂

They are doing this to strengthen Catholic identity and need a theologian to do so? What exactly does this mean? Since they have been funding pro-abort groups for at least a decade probably longer, my trust by now, is in shreds.

I’d also like to know if an answer was ever given to the question poised by InsideCatholic.com several months ago as to why the bishops paid $1,000 in dues to a civil rights group which lobbies Congress for abortions for the poor. Since the bishops are card-carrying members of that group this means they themselves are being represented as proponents of all the group hopes to achieve. I saved the link, but see it has been removed, and I don’t now remember the name. Does anyone remember and did we ever get an answer as to why? Perhaps their theologian will let us know.

I do not know for sure what the theologian’s role will be. If I had to guess, it would be to make sure that the mission of the groups they are funding do not clash with Catholic teaching.

I guess I’m trying to be more optimistic. I know the bishops themselves did not make these decisions themselves about where the money goes. The people at the CCHD to whom they entrusted the task made these decisions. It seems likely to me that these staffers had more training in fund raising and philanthropy than in Catholic theology (even people who work for the Church in administrative roles can be woefully under-catechized), which explains why they made these sorts of blunders. Certainly there was some egregious oversight in this department, but the bishops seem to have recognized this and are taking steps to address it.

That’s my take on it, anyway. :o

I’ll never give to any charity that is or has been supported by the USCCB.

I wonder if we’ll ever know how many thousands of hard-earned dollars from faithful Catholics have been funneled to God-hating, baby-killing Reds?

I mean, will we even get the truth, let alone an apology?

I don’t much like the label, “Red.” (Altho I agree with what it is intended to imply.) The question is, how did the political arm get so powerful to the detriment of the faith?

The truth to us, has been buried under miles of bureaucracy, but in HIS time, justice will come, and I fear, according to Scripture, it will be terrifying to the enemies of Christ. An apology to us is not important - something has been very very wrong within the inner courts and common sense dictates that many prayers pleading His mercy is what is in order.

Don’t you think that’s a bit extreme? That means you won’t be giving money to your local diocese, since they sometimes receive funds from the USCCB for various initiatives.

Yes, it is pretty extreme that I have to use the USCCB as a litmus test for charities to avoid. I’ll give to Peter’s Pence and my parish. Charitable giving I scrutinize closely.
