How can you blame him for loaded questions when you refuse to even debate logically.
And that’s
another thing.
Here you are
assuming that we’re not debating logically either. But we are debating logically.
First of all, you say I’m blathering, reiterating the same point over and over without thought, and making an additional claim that I should treat non-Christian people as if they are nothing than ignorant heathens-- and now you say I can’t even debate logically?
You have some nerve.
Oneiron:
To my knowledge, many times he offered a definition of fanatic, I even pulled out dictionaries and researched word after word and found he was right.
What the hell are you talking about!
It’s not that we don’t
‘like’ the definition of fanatic that was given. Sometimes it can really be applied to pitch-fork weilding mobs-- and we’ve never said it couldn’t be applied in this way.
The problem with this definition is that it doesn’t
always apply to
all fanatics. It is simply
NOT TRUE that all fanatics are like pitch-fork weilding mobs out for blood. Many fanatics are perfectly harmless, if not a bit obsessive compulsive regarding their particular subject of interest.
Anyone claiming that we
have to accept this because they said this is the only definition
they can accept is attempting force others to hold to opinions that they don’t actually hold.
Furthermore, by refusing to admit that there are
harmless fanatics out there, and by refusing to admit that this particular usage of this word may be pushing the limits of what the word actually implies beyond its limits, it really does come across as if the people insisting this defintion must be accepted are tying to control the definition within the given debate in order to force their own conclusions to be accepted.
Oneiron:
You didn’t say anything more after proved wrong.
How were CatholicBob and myself proven wrong?
Are you honestly saying that
all fanatics are
blood-thirsty murderers?
If so, I can personally assure that this claim is
NOT TRUE. Period. There’s no debating this part.
There are
harmless fanatics and you know this. Then again, there are
harmless extremists too-- though this word extremist is certainly more
in vogue for referencing someone who is willing to murder for their beliefs than the word fanatic.
I’m honestly not sure what word one could accurately invoke to capture the idea that you are trying convey. I think it would be sufficient to plainly state
“I’m talking about people who are willing to murder for their beliefs” rather than attempt to force other words, such as fanatics and extremists, to be restricted to this limited meaning--
then we can move on from there.
Of course, coming back to the beginning, if you start off defining a “special kind” of fanatic that is willing to murder for their beliefs, then what is that actually saying?
All you’re doing is restricting the definition in such a way so as to control the final outcome of the conclusion presented. In other words, this too is akin to a loaded question with a false or questionable presupposition-- it is “loaded” with that presumption that all these “kinds” of fanatics are willing to murder for their beliefs.
But this definition doesn’t really tell us anying except that in your mind the word fanatic is being associated with people who are willing to murder for their beliefs.
In fact, I would say this entire question
“Will we survive religion?” is nothing more than a loaded question. It presumes that the combined might of the various religious impulses throughout humanity really does have the capability to wipe out all of humanity-- and refuses to even look at any other factors which might be reasonably invoked by some non-religious extremists for murdering others.
I’m using
logic right now by the way too.
