I have post several messages on this thread- so I don’t believe I fit your "rash judgment "criteria.The church has speculated very little on Revelation -very wise indeed.
Revelation is not a book to be taken literally because it was written in a style/ genre that shouldn’t be taken literally.Apocalyptic literature.
Bar-codes and marks(deliberately vague what that mark is) are not to be feared. they are elusive and symbolic-because the genre is symbolic.what can be gleaned from the apocalypse has to be done through careful study in order to grasp the whole range of levels of meaning. Scholars have been doing this for centuries and still have a hard time grasping it. There are several really good books from a Catholic point of view that could be very helpful to you. If you want i can post the titles.

I certainly embrace much of your rational here. I certainly don’t consider myself a End Times freak. Much of what is written in the Apocalypse is metaphorically and deliberately hidden from wise esteem-able minds. No one knows the when the Son of Man will return, neither the Son, but only the Heavenly Father. We can all make idle speculation too bring intellectual prowess and pride to our swelling heads which amounts to nothing anyway.
And I will give you credit to the fact that this entire post is getting non-essential with far better topics to get involved with here at Catholic Answers.
I wonder how many here are sitting on their haunches laughing with ridicule at much of what is being said. Like the National Enquirer it’s sure getting a lot of onlookers.

Wow - what a dialog.
Some dude on here said “Be afraid.” But wouldn’t it be better to say, “Be not afraid”? I find it hard to believe someone would sound so contradicting to Holy Scripture on purpose.
I would find it hard to walk up to St. Teresa of Avila in her convent cell and say to her, “Be afraid”. She would reply: “Oh yeah? Well the night before I was sleeping and woke up to the devil hovering over me.” Then we would ask, “Holy smokes, what did you do?” “I said to the devil - ‘Oh, it’s just you.’ rolled over, and went back to sleep.”
Now, when we pray - do we pray in the hope Christ gives us because of who He is and what He’s done?
Or, when we pray - do we pray out of despair and doubt in what Christ has done for us?
Deareast dudes and dudettes - I know something the devil doesn’t want anyone to fully realize. That this battle has already been won and Christ is already the Eucharistic King. The devil doesn’t want you to know that. Because THEN he can inspire you to “Be afraid”!
Keep your eyes on the Eucharist. Let it be to you the REAL BODY, BLOOD, SOUL, and DIVINITY that Christ Himself says it is. Receive it in the same manner as you would receive God into your house. You would clean it - and be polite. Receive it daily if you can - and always receive it KNOWING that as God the Father provided for the Israelites in THEIR desert with manna from Heaven - we are likewise provided for by the Father in ‘OUR desert’ with THE Manna from Heaven.
The Eucharist is the Answer we have all been waiting for…to everything.

Hi jpk 1313 thanks for your reply. I very very much like what you say! Give it away, by all means yes, starting with the Pope, Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops. Then give the proceeds to the nuns and instead of them operating soup kitchens they’ll be able to operate steak houses for the poor. That way the Magisterium would resemble more like Jesus in Mat 8:20. Very good idea! ED O.

This makes more sense to me. It seems more and more people starting to wilfully accept the evil and wicked ways of the enemy. We are not too far away from the prophecy.Sigh
This new age stuff is really upsetting me. It will not be a chip, people. When the Bible says that it will be in the head and hand, it means that people will accept it in their mind (conscience) and willfully. We must not interpret the Bible according to modern times. We must respect and consider the times in which the Apocalypse was written. Like the name of the book suggest, the Book is in Apocalyptic language, which was very popular and symbolic in John’s time. It is not to be taken literally. I doubt there will be literal 7 headed beasts.

OK so then we can agree that since revelation is repleat with symbolism then we may count Nero out as far as 666 is concerned? Why apply figurative meaning only when convenient to dismiss the possibility of a coming end times and a physical mark? Let’s just say that we don’t understand revelation and its meaning has not been revealed yet . Period.

Personally, I think that at some point we are going to have to declare ourselves either for Christ or for the anti-Christ. At that point, our SOULS will be marked if we choose the anti-Christ. I don’t take apocolyptic writing literally.

It’s a revelation written especially for the persecuted faithfull. Those who are experiencing a world reacting to their presence just as it reacted to their Lord’s. They are the one’s who unlock it’s secrets at any time in history, and we are the one’s who listen.

I respect that interpretation but I don’t buy it really. I think that fear of an actual apocalyptic scenario has fuelled all sorts of interpretations of revelations but I think that there will be a final reckonning on this earth where everyone will have to make a clear choice between God or Satan’s way. The satanic world view has been slowly creeping into our midst through the mass media and through our acceptance of anti-christian philosophies and lifestyles. History always repeats itself and the persecution of christians in ancient times in a legislative sense is coming sometime down the road. Just like Daniel explained what dreams and visions meant in reality, so did Jesus and and the meaning of John’s visions was explained to him as well. I would not say that because we can’t fully make sense of it that it must all be figurative language necessarily. Some refers to the physical world and some of it spiritual concepts.
