I heard this on the Mark Levin show. A student called and said Ayers(Weatherground radical - friend of Obama) was invited by a college group but there would be some that would picket the event.
MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2009
"The State of Democracy in America: Education Reform and Civic Engagement,” with Bill Ayers, professor of education, University of Illinois, Chicago. (Lyons Dining Hall, 6 p.m

Also he said that crucifixes was put in classrooms but professors complained and had them removed.
When it was announced yesterday that author and environmental activist Van Jones had been appointed special presidential adviser for green jobs and enterprise and innovation, we immediately thought of the good fortune of the people attending the Boston College Center’s 2009 International Corporate Citizenship Conference in San Francisco because he’s a featured speaker…two weeks ago Jones participated in an Economic Stimulus Summit hosted by Vice President Joe Biden and showed a short video produced by his nonprofit Green for All. Take a look at their vision for the new green economy:blogs.bcccc.net/2009/03/conference-keynote-speaker-tapped-as-special-adviser-in-obama-administration

he should be allowed on campus to debate, with cameras rolling. that would be a good one to watch.

I think Ayers should be in prison, not on the speech circuit. He and Obama should sha re a cell.

Shame on Boston College.

The best thing that could happen would be that his coming to BC would be a non-event and nobody would show up to acknowledge his attendance.
A picket here and a picket there only brings attention to him. Make it a non-event and he would lose most of his influence.

The crosses are still in the classrooms as far as I know.
If an instructor or prof. wants them removed - that person should resign and go someplace else … It is a Catholic institution and should be proud of it…

As a (long ago) alum of B.C., I think that the exchange of ideas (NOT the bestowing of honorary degrees, a la Notre Dame and Obama) is what a university is all about. Though I skew rather conservative, I don’t have a problem with a student group bringing in controversial figures, particularly in a question and answer type setting, or a debate (I especially love debates!) We should never be afraid of opinions; we (the Catholic Church) possess the Truth.

There are plenty of bright young people at B.C. who will ask the right questions.

As far as I know, despite the idiot professors who suggested the crucifixes be removed, they remain. (If not, B.C. will never again get $$$ from me.)

Soooo… If Osama bin Ladan came out of the woodwork and was invited to speak at BC, you think that would be a good idea too? It is a reasonable comparison, both of these men use the same methods to achieve very similar goals.

Does this really surprise anyone? Remember when Columbia University invited the President of Iran to speak?

But it is hardly a “reasonable” scenario…

Shame on YOU. Mr. Obama is our President and you are being very disrespectful. President Obama has not broken any laws and does not belong in prison just because you don’t like him. Jesus would not judge President Obama as you just did. Don’t be a hypocrite.

a hearty debate is the most peaceful way to expose these fools for what they are. i say let the cameras roll.

Forget “reasonable”. Answer the question.
You were the one who first mentioned “reasonable.”

I find the possibility of Osama bin Laden coming out of the woodwork too absurd to take seriously. That said, I think many people would be most interested in finding out what goes on inside his head and challenging his radical Islamist views. Who among us doesn’t wonder what motivated history’s great villains?

The Ayers situation may well be moot, as mention of the engagement seems to have disappeared from the website.

Okay. I can assume that you would support giving a sick, twisted, attention craving murderer his fix. I see that. To you it does not matter that a person desires to do nothing but kill people like you you, you want to give them attention. Okay. At least we all know that you would be willing to betray the human race to those who seek to destroy it. I appreciate your candor, however suicidal it may be.

Your statement is ridiculous and insulting.

This started with the William Ayers speaking engagement at B.C. You brought up an absurd straw man in the guise of Osama bin Laden, not I.

I think you are overtired from your recent family obligations and need to take a rest.

Off Topic but I will ask:
Would you say it would be a good thing (forget the status of POTUS) to have asked the most anti-life person to speak at any Catholic University and to give a coveted honor to that person? Also Jesus told the repentant thief he would be with him in Heaven that day. I do not remember (correct me if I am wrong here) Jesus telling the unrepentant person on the other cross the same thing.

Back on topic:

I was in the Air Force when the Weathermen were active and people died for their “cause”. The man to give the speech has acknowledged publicly that they would be willing to “eliminate” 25 million people that disagreed with them. Guess that those the support mass murder and just do not get their personal hands dirty with the blood are ok to give honors to.

I was walking down 14th street the week before the Weathermen actually killed someone. It was one of their own. In their Greenwich Village bomb factory, Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn went out to the deli and came back to their townhouse blown down. One of the radicals inside was dead. A worker next door was injured in the 1969 blast and folks for about a week thought it was a gas explosion. Ayers and Dohrn did not resurface for years.

So, after the last election we get the silly invective. Ayers never killed anyone. Ayers was never convicted of any crime. Ayers and Obama were never ‘friends’. He had a ‘meet and greet’ for Obama. Well, I guess such makes Obama Catholic because I had a ‘meet and greet’ for him in my house, too. Right under my crucifix, by the way.

Ayers remains a political radical, but many a fine tune is played on an old, cheap violin. If he’s not talking politics (which he won’t be) folks ought to let ad hominem go (as stated in forum rules) and realize that the truth is the truth no matter who speaks it.

As for dumb statements, remember Kent State in 1970? A guy who ‘flipped off’’ the National Guard spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair after getting shot. (By the way, it was not the only time gunmen had killed protesters on a college campus, but when police killed black students in SC it got far less publicity. The governor apologized recently.) As to Kent State, Thurmond Munson of the Yankees, someone who I could never stomach, said “Well, they ought to shoot about ten more.” Nice, huh?

Beau Ouiville Lets talk about what this Professor that teaches our youth not about you political opinions those of us that post her know them well. This thread is about Mr. Ayres. OK.
Grathwohl was an FBI informant who infiltrated the Weather Underground. He has reported that in a conversation with Ayres he told him he had planted the Park Police Station bomb, a charge that Ayres denies.
"The thing the most bone chilling thing Bill Ayers said to me was that after the revolution succeeded and the government was overthrown, they believed they would have to eliminate 25 million Americans who would not conform to the new order," Grathwohl has stated.
Ayres became a controversy during the 2008 election when his close association with President Barack Obama came under scrutiny. As a founder of the Chicago Annenberg challenge, Ayres chose Obama to become the CEO and in charge of disbursement of the estimated $150 million the foundation gave to Chicago schools.
In 2001, in a New York Times article published on September 11, Ayres, in reflecting on the Weather Underground and its radical resistance to the United States government, stated, "I wish we had done more."
I sure do not this kind of person teaching they youth that will run this country.
