Wine allowed in Islam?

You mean, that the harm outweighed the benefit.

In Mecca, there was not an Islamic society. The focus was simply on the basics of faith and worship. When the Muslims moved to Medina they were able to establish an Islamic state there, so the legislation of Islam in the Qur’an began to be revealed in Medina.
Nevertheless, Muslims kept drinking heavily until the Hijrah, and it is weird that Mohammad did not tell them anything about alcohol’s outweighing harms.

Next question: Had Mohammad not gone to Medina and established the Islamic state, wouldn’t Islam have had a legislation? The Koran claims that Moses was given the Law before Israelites reached the Holy Land!

If I said the sky is blue, I think you people would argue with me. Sheesh.

no Amy, we do not argue with you for the sake of it…there are flaws in your arguments, and we are pointing them out.
First of all, of course it’s not a prohibition. This was the first step TOWARDS a prohibition.
that’s because you have a priori belief that it is progressive. Yet, if you take the verse by itself, it by no means hints at prohibiting alcohol. When i tell you that something is both good and bad, it is the best way to teach you HOW to consume that thing otherwise i do NOT mention the benefit.

the next verse prohibit it in the context of prayer. Again, no progression since it has nothing to do with the first verse that mentions benefits, and these benefits can be assume before prayer.
Secondly, it is NOT about the amount, because it doesn’t say it’s about the amount. That is only your assumption and interpretation, which is not backed up by textual analysis. Regardless of the amount, the harm outweighs the benefit
. this makes no sense. So in WHAT WAY is it beneficial?
Again, your interpretation only.
i asked a simple question : how can Allah say wine has benefits, and then call it the work of satan? did all the prophets and people who drank before follow satan’s work?

You answered : satan uses what is good and turns it into bad or something of the like. To which i replied : he can he turn it into bad UNLESS by excess if alcohol per se can be neneficial? in what way can it be beneficial?

these are very simple and logical questions.

"if i said the sky is blue,i think you ppl would argue with me."no sister amy.nobody here is ur enemy.u just lost.cuz mr.injesus,mr angelos&mr agnos thiest always push you to an awkward situation with logic.&i saw that when you can’t give logic then you said many thing

If I said the sky is blue, I think you people would argue with me. Sheesh.
The sky is not blue. It just looks blue from earth because that’s the way light travels through our atmosphere. But if you were outta space, the sky would be black.

Sorry - I couldn’t resist.

😛

Are we to just go and believe what you believe, go along with everything you say? That is the Islam way though isnt it. Everything in Islam is the way it is because Mohammed said so. Now Sister Amy is saying so, we should follow suit… not gonna happen sister 😉

If I said the sky is blue, I think you people would argue with me. Sheesh.
Not from me.
Allah has blessed me with a beautiful blue sky today.

He is indeed the most merciful, most loving creator.

all praise is due to Him alone.

Well, I guess that puts Jesus and his mother Miriam in deep do-do and negates his title as a sinless man in the Qu’ran. For Jesus sure created a lot of wine at his mother’s urging at the wedding of Cana when the original amount was all used up. Oh, well throw him and his mother out of the Qu’ran cause he ain’t holy enough for Muhammad’s sacred book with wine being the devil’s tool. Opps, does that lead to a contradiction in the Qu’ran itself? Somebody help us out for something sure doesn’t square here. Let’s see, Jesus didn’t think it was wrong to create the best wine and for others to drink it, and his mother didn’t think that it was evil to ask him to create a miracle for more, Oh, my gosh does that make God/Allah wrong for granting that miracle which only he could grant? Boy the devil sure gets off scott free here and puts the good guys in a bind. Well, I guess we shouldn’t ask for anymore help from Muhammad who would only lead us deeper into this quandry.

No Stephen, according to Muhammad, wine became the tool of satan after Muhammad. Before Muhammad, it was not the tool of satan. In other words, all previous prophets/people were doing the will of Allah by taking the benefit of the wine but later on it became satan’s tool.

Geez, you mean all that prior time that Old Nick was about the world enticing honest folks to get off the straight and narrow by pumping booze down people’s throats that that wasn’t the tool of the old boy? Wow, that makes me feel that the the Prince of Darkness didn’t have much power concerning the fruit of the vine back before the Prophet. Nice to know that all those drunks that messed up their lives and others before God/Allah spoke through Muhammad can claim immunity from prosecution on Judgement day!

Just a thought,
The wine Jesus (PBWH) rrevealed at the wedding was said to be top stuff.

If he was blessed with the pure spirit why is it not considerable it was heavenly wine?

After all the Bible does not state people got drunk on it.

I personally consider it a heavenly wine, because everything that comes from Lord Jesus is heavenly & perfect.

It’s very important to me to understand what was going on in the culture at a particular time in question. I hear of Jesus creating a heavenly wine which I believe our fellow Muslims believe has the taste of earthly wine without the intoxication. However, let’s put the wine that Christ created in it’s cultural context of a wedding of his time. Was it alcoholic or was it a form of grape juice since the word can be translated either way. It would be helpful if we have any Jewish members on this board for their imput of what was normally served at a typical wedding around 2,000 years ago. Remember the wine steward stated that the host had waited to serve the best wine last. He didn’t state that it was different in its taste of degree of alcohol or non-alcoholic content than the prior wine but just the best of the kind that would have normally been served.
Most important, at the Last Supper, Jesus drank alcoholic wine with his 12 disciples because the Passover traditionally required an alcoholic drink. This is one reason that our wine used in the Sacrifice of the Mass must have a particular percent of alcohol. It must be precise no greater or no less in alcoholic content. This is because if we want to follow Jesus’s command and recreate his blood then we MUST follow his command precisely with just the right percent of everything. Finally, Jesus stated that he would not drink this wine with them again on earth. Instead, he would drink it with them in the heavenly kingdom. So then, if we take Jesus at his word, then we will be drinking an alcoholic wine in heaven with him. Personally, since my father showed me the foolishness of drunkedness, I learned to follow the Greek wisdom of being moderate in drinking alcohol. It becomes sinful when abused but in moderation as Jesus showed, it is beneficial to health and to friendship. Just don’t be a fool and as Christ did learn to stop when then you have had enough.

Thanks be to God,
good post for Christian half of the question.

on another note from your post
In the Cathoilc parish of our town the may have it wrong

They add water to the wine.

For me its about the words spoken at the last supper and the actions of the messenger Jesus (PBWH) mission.

May God bless you and yours
