My friend believes that she is a Wicken, she does participate in Magic. She claims she is able to speak to her gran through the use of candles and that she has dreams which are able to predict the future (like the death of one of my friends family members that came true). She also reads tarrow cards and palm reads. I have let her read my tarrow. I don’t see a problem with it as she hates the Devil and doesn’t attempt any ‘evil’ magic. Is it wrong for me to be fine with it or to have my tarrow read. Also her birthday is coming up and I’m considering buying her some candles (that she would likely use for magic), is it wrong of me to be fine with this?

It’s definitely wrong to think any of it is fine. The devil/satan is involved in all of that.

she is a Wicken
Pantheism.
She claims she is able to speak to her gran
Spiritism (or psychic abilities if the ancestor is still living.)
she has dreams which are able to predict the future
Prophecy.
She also reads tarrow cards and palm reads.
Occultism. Divination.
she hates the Devil
The aforementioned equate to the Devil’s work.
doesn’t attempt any ‘evil’ magic.
Magic is either evil - or: innocuous, ineffective.
Also her birthday is coming up
Congratulations. Give her a catechism. She might like it.

It’s definitely dangerous to be involved with any of that even if you don’t think it’s “evil magic” because all of it is not of God. I would not encourage my friend in doing anything nor would I participate in such things with them because I am putting myself in danger as well. Instead I’d get something for my friend that they can’t use in their practices while still giving a gift. Books on topics of interest (not the magic though) or humorous topics are a safe bet.

Divination and spiritism is a good way to wind up possessed. Demons will impersonate good angels, spirits of the dead, and so-called gods, and thereby trick the practitioner into giving them permission to enter them. Once the demon enters its victim, it is not easily removed.

Thank you for the ideas, I agree with you in terms of talking to the dead and other spells. But what do you think of tarrow and palm reading?

That’s still trying to use or manipulate spirits or energy of some kind for divination purposes which we are told to stay away from.

Divination and the like are explicitly forbidden in scripture. No fortune telling.

Reading tarot cards is a form of divination. Forbidden. The same with reading palms.

These things are forbidden because (a) we have no way of knowing what powers we are invoking and (b) they lead us to trust in information we got from we-don’t-know-who and we-don’t-know-how instead of trusting in God and God’s commandments.

Hitch hiking seems like a great cheap way to use ride-sharing to save money, until you find out that it is also the way serial killers find victims. The practice of magic is spiritual hitch-hiking at best. (I say “at best” because the angels do not participate in it, so who is left to offer a ride?)

Stay far from that and caution your friend that she is dabbling in powers who know what she is blind to. She needs to be careful who she trusts. As Red Riding Hood found, not everyone who claims to be Grandma is telling you the truth or means to do well by you in the end.

“…even Satan masquerades as an angel of light. So it is not strange that his ministers also masquerade as ministers of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.”
2 Cor. 11:14-15

St. Paul was talking about false teachers of the Gospel, but the same applies to any who propose a false thing as the truth. Steer far away from them. The evil spirits lure souls as the hungry Hansel and Gretel were lured in by the house made of treats.

There is only God and the devil. Nothing else. I study the fringe literature and by calling demons by different names, some people get confused. Please understand that none of this is good for anyone.

The reason I ask is because when she read my tarrow I gave her a question that’d be impossible for anybody to know, and she came up with the correct answer.

At best the devil leaves you alone to seduce yourself in your self-flattery of how clever and insightful you are. At worst…well, it gets much worse.

You are dealing with either a liar or the Liar–meaning, either she had ways to know and is falsifying how she knew or she is getting answers from the great Deceiver. She is beyond parlor games and wishful thinking. Stay far away from what she’s doing. Honestly, I would fast and do penance on her behalf. She may be in very great danger.

At the root of witchcraft is the desire to CONTROL everybody around them.

I have seen it myself. Such knowledge does not come from God.

Acts 16:16

New International Version
Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.

New Living Translation
One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl who had a spirit that enabled her to tell the future. She earned a lot of money for her masters by telling fortunes.

English Standard Version
As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.

New International Version
She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”

New Living Translation
She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved.”

English Standard Version
She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.”

New International Version
She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

New Living Translation
This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and said to the demon within her, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And instantly it left her.

English Standard Version
And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.

At the root of witchcraft is the desire to CONTROL everybody around them.
Well…there are Wiccans who honestly want to live and let live. There have always been pagans who are only guilty of invincible ignorance.

To clarify: I wouldn’t condemn her. but I would still what she is practicing as a grave danger.

To be honest it’s a lot of baloney. These claims of prophetic dreams and telling the future with a deck of cards are delusions of grandeur which is what draws people to these silly alternate religions. They claim to abandon Christian (most certainly Catholic) faith yet adopt false idols through defunct and mythical “gods” and “godesses”, practice ceremonies which are largely based on Catholic ones and eventually become advocates of feminism and the strong desire to control people because of their inability to control their owns lives.

People normally elevate to these silly ideals such as wicca because they have made little effort to understand Christianity and yet invest a lot of time and money in books written by con-artists and a plethora of ornaments and trinkets convinced they serve some purpose.

These people never actually are able to “read your fortune” or “tell the future”. They’ll read for people they know (conveniently) and those they don’t they learn to ask key questions to work out the right answers. It’s a con they develop easily and quickly.

So you are being lured in by the fact that she got something right? Rest assured that is not from God. He doesn’t work with us like that. This is very dangerous territory. Whatever she calls herself is irrelevant. Stay away from it. If you can’t get her respect you and stop it and stop talking about it when you are around, then you need to flee her company.

truly, there is no way she could’ve known what the cards showed. The problems that i see is that she seems quite happy with it, she doesn’t attempt to predict the future or to do any controlling spell. She simply tries (and apparently succeeds) at talking to her gran, the rest is involuntary such as having dreams, etc. She’s only 15 she doesn’t mean any harm

All the things you mention are bad. Very bad. And should be left alone or discarded by tearing up or defacing. None of it should survive to poison others.
