If only i felt the hurt it causes our Lord!!
This is not an attempt to guilt-trip you. Just keeping it real, and it helps me to think of it this way: the Rosary teaches us that Christ’s scourging at the pillar was mainly for our sins of the flesh. Because we screw people we shouldn’t, because we watch porn, because we masturbate – these are the reasons why Jesus was whipped so horribly before his crucifixion.

Thank you whm for your honest advice. It’s not easy trying to give up an addiction for someone i’ve never met…and am afraid may not exist at alll!!

But hearing it from a personal level really helps 🙂

What is the best way to quit?? Is it about slowly weaning yourself off it in steps, accompanied by prayer??

I do value confessions and daily mass…but my family would know that something was up if i suddenly went mad for them (as wrong as that is) - but i dont want them to know, i feel it would really hurt them 😦

Soren Tenu:

Yes, i agree. I have played my part in the torture and crucifixion of the Lamb…and continue to do so. I openly confess that to you all…and i havnt even felt shameful or sorrowful for these terrible actions.

I know that i have done really bad things…and i dont feel a fraction of the shame/sorrow or remorse that i should do. But i want to feel it because i dont want that to be passed on to anybody else.

Please Jesus, open my eyes, help me to see what i have done and continue to do. Help me to see it for what it is, rather than for the pleasure it brings.

Thank you EVERYONE for your kind help and advice. I am so grateful. Sorry for being such a mess. I’m too embarrassed to speak to anybody about this face to face - i’m so shy i try not to bother anyone haha!

Thanks once again!

The best way to quit is
  1. take it day by day. Think about today, not tomorrow or yesterday. Get through today, and thank God for His strength at the end of it.
  2. Pray for grace. God’s grace is amazing and sufficient for your needs.
  3. Pray to St. Joseph. He’s not sentimental and will take practical steps to take care of you. He’s a powerful saint for chastity.
  4. Pray to Mary. She is your mother. Are you going to spank it in front of your mother? If you pray to her, she’ll draw near to you and give you her Son’s infinite graces. Don’t look at porn – your mother’s standing right there!
👍

I prayed for you yesterday, Robert, by name. I’m gonna pray for you again right now.

P.S. Call me Jason! 🙂

Thank you so much 🙂

I’m going to pray now to thank God for the help you and all these nice people have offered me.

Thank you so much…i cant express it enough.

I’m sorry for being such a pain though.

You’re not a pain.

We’re brothers and sisters in Christ. If we can’t talk to one another, to whom can we talk? 🙂

The term “self pleasuring” is taken directly from the porn industry…they developed this euphemism. Let’s call it what it is…masturbation…not unusual but …let"s be honest…

So many euphemisms bother me. Such as “going home to be with The Lord” just a euphemism for dying. Your example of “self pleasuring” or same sex marriage or a whole bunch of other things:shrug:

Quite embarrassingly i’ve realised that at my current rate, i’m slowly driving myself insane at not being able to stop self-pleasuring.

BUT someone’s shone light on the situation from another perspective, and i want to share that with you’s…hear you opinions…and hopefully it may help others too.

I’ve looked at my life and realised that, while i do have a weakness to sexual sin, i’m blessed to be stronger in so many areas…and i’m sure you’s are the same!

While it is right, and necessary to strive for purity, we have to also realise that we are human and have fallen natures…therefore it is IMPOSSIBLE to beat sin on our own. While we should still be trying to shake off our sexual sin, perhaps we should be focusing moreso on loving others and spreading the Good News!!

I feel that as long as Christ sees that i am trying to improve, then maybe some day he’ll give me the strength required. But there’s no point in me getting all depressed when i fail because Christ knows that we’re going to sin and that’s why He has offered us confession.

So i’m not going to loose heart and get beat up when i fail, because as long i am trying then that’s all i can offer and i’ve done my best. As long as i go to confession and then try my best again, then Christ will hopefully be pleased. And maybe seeing that i am reaching out to Him, He’ll eventually pick me up and lift me from this sin.

But i’ll focus on loving others and spreading Christ’s word.
I suppose also, i never expected to have a 100% pure wife, so as long as i am actively trying, then i cant offer her any more. Also, i’m yet to quiz a girl on her sexual purity when i first meet her - it’s other qualities that originally attract me. And when love forms, hopefully her and my imperfections will be so small in comparison to what we’ve got going for us.
Get an acocuntability partner…we all know that while we are surfing and sinning that we already know that Christ is watching. It also is equally obvious that we do it anyway! So let me suggest what has worked well with me- get an accountability partner, a friend, a priest, a counselor that would be alerted when you start trying to view porn…someone of a righteous enough character that you would not want him to make that embarrasing call. It is the best deterrent that I know. The scripture that applies is that “where there is light the darkness must flee”. www.wisechoice.net offers an excellent filter that includes accountability reporting and alerts at no extra charge. When there is a solution so obvious then continued breast beating becomes shameful. God offers a way of escape…so use it.

Man I remembered when I was so deep in my addiction that I absolutely refused priestly counsel to join any kind of sex/porn addiction group or even “give up the computer for awhile.” I felt like if I gave up the computer I’d be admitting defeat or declaring myself a cripple to the entire world.

Who the heck would know that I didn’t use a computer at home? Nobody. Who would know I put filters on it? Nobody. Who would know I had an accountability partner? Nobody. This notion that the world knows your every little secret and is constantly sitting in judgment of you is a product of the addiction and Satan whispering (or sometimes shouting) in your ear. It’s not from God, that’s for sure!

I got a filtered ISP. That is, the internet service provider filters all content sent to the computer. There is simply no way to access porn from my computer, or on any computer in the house. The connection works fine for everyday work. I am a computer programmer who works from home, so I need a good internet connection.

There is only one such provider in Australia (webshield.net.au) and they have had a very small uptake - which suggests to me that most men who claim they want to stop using porn don’t really want to have it taken away from. They’d rather keep repenting and regretting, while blaming their “addiction”, but keeping the door open to continued use.

To find a content filtered ISP in your country do a search for "family friendly ISP ".

Are wet dreams sinful??

And if not, is there any way to make yourself have one??

…cause then i’d have a not less awkwardness, be less tempted to sin - and it would be ok with God 🙂

It would be a win win!!

Wet dreams are not sinful because sleep is such an altered state of consciousness (unconsciousness?) that you’re not responsible for what you dream.

Make yourself dream something specific? Not sure if that’s possible. I’ve heard of lucid dreaming, but I’m not sure if that’s the same thing. Besides, being able to make yourself dream those sexual things to the point of ejaculation…is that even moral? hmmm

Yes, good point!

As you are seeking something for yourself…which is selfish.

ok,i think it should be unintentional - a gift from God that He gives when He thinks you’ve put up with enough a deserve a wee break.

But do you think that it could cause:
Anxiety
racing heart
depression
inability to sleep at night
The devil has great power of suggestion, and he wants more then anything for you to fall back into this filthy habit. Don’t be deceived, there are absolutely no unhealthy side-effects of practicing chastity. The damage done to you by engaging in such acts are far more damaging both in this life and the next.

After 11 years of indulging in this addiction, God has helped me to successfully give it up about a year and a half ago (and only good things have happened to me as a result). During the first month, satan definitely played some tricks with me… vivid sexual dreams, etc… As long as you stay close to God, it will get easier.

I’m trying my best to stop.

The temptation’s constantly really strong, but with our Lord’s help hopefully i will overcome it.

I’m experiencing aggressive feelings and i find it hard to sleep.

Is this normal? And how do i stop it?

Sleep with a rosary in your hand. If you get tempted start saying the rosary and don’t stop until you fall asleep again. You will not fall while you are saying the rosary. You may have some tempting thoughts at first but you will not fall with the rosary in your hands.

Also remember vivid dreams and other temptations that might pop in your head are not sins. It is only if you willfully indulge in those temptations that they become sinful. When you experience a temptation, immediately say a prayer for the temptation to pass, then say a rosary, read the bible, or even do the dishes. If you do not do something to change your focus, the temptation, self guilt, thoughts of inadequacy will build until you eventually give in again. As others have said once you get 2 to 4 weeks out it becomes easier.
