Hey I have a question. I can be quite scrupulous, and I committed a sin that I believe with reason, not just scrupulosity, that it could have been mortal. Anyways I went to confession and explained my sin to the priest, but, I didn’t tell him I was scrupulous, because he isn’t my primary priest and 1. I was in a hurry and didn’t want him to rant about scruples and 2. I didn’t want to involve him with it since I already know a priest that I trust more, and I can ask about scruples. I felt like I made a good confession, and I feel more at ease. But, after making the confession, I wondered if that counted as withholding information in confession. I’m not worried that I am guilty of mortal sin, as I wasn’t aware that I could be sinning. My question is this, does the sin of purposely withholding information in confession count only for sins that you confess, or can one make a bad confession because they didn’t tell the priest other information, like scrupulosity. Thank you.

If you are scrupulous, you should not be asking these kinds of questions online, as the diversity of opinions, many of which are given by people with no qualifications to help you, will only add to your confusion and worry. Posting questions to internet forums becomes a form of reassurance seeking, and it will only further the cycle of scruples, as no answer will ever satisfy. Please seek the help of your priest and a counselor.

You are in my prayers.

Thank you for your response, I should mention that my scruples are more under-control, as I am seeing a therapist. And it’s is easier for me to identify what is a sin and what isn’t, I just didn’t know about the confession issue

You still need to be avoiding asking questions online and discussing these things with your regular confessor and your therapist.

I still have issues with scruples, but, thankfully, I am not scrupulous with this issue, I just don’t be know if my confession was valid

From what you said, you did not withhold a mortal sin in confession.

Please seek help offline, and others would be well advised not to respond to this thread.

I agree. @Thanos, I have scrupulously and seeking gratification online is a very bad idea. Look at some of the scrupulous anonymous newsletters and try to tell Father in confession that you are scrupulous.

But seeking gratification and reassurance online is a very bad idea.
