Wives, what do you do for your husbands to make them excited to come home after work?

Having a kiss and a beer ready for him. Then allow him to talk, sometimes I hurriedly rush on to tell him of our day at home and he can’t take it all in at once. So therefore, it would be 1) a kiss, 2) a beer and 3) time for him to unwind.

I’m usually at work or class anymore but when I used to be home during the day when DH got home, I would make sure the house was picked up, that my hair was done and I had at least a little touch of makeup on ( I know, very 1950s but it felt good too) and that dinner was at least started so he could smell it cooking when he came in. I like to make my home a very warm place so I would put the TV on quietly with the news or just music, light a nice smelling candle and fluff up the pillows on the couch (maybe with a fleecy blanket too) and if I remembered, I’d put his jeans and Tshirt out on the bed for him to change in too when he got home. Hand him a Mountain Dew and give him a big kiss to top it off, and he was one happy guy 🙂 👍

Here is a easy simple thing you can do.

Drop everything for about 2 minutes.
Face him shortly after he comes in the door.
Look him in the eyes and smile.
Give him a kiss and hug and rest in his embrace.
Tell him that you missed him.
Tell him that he is a great guy.

Dinner is nice. A beer is nice. Scantily clad is nice, once in a while. But you can forget about those things and still have a very happy man if you give him some undivided attention and affirm that he is a good person.

Try this for a week and see what happens. You may find that that painting job or the thing that you have been bugging him about for two years magically gets done!

SueKrum,
I just wanted to tell you I think this was a great idea for a thread…
If more wives paid attention these kind of things there would probably be less divorces 🙂

I know what you mean. the scriptures this week in mass were all about married couples and I kept thinking about this thread. how we need to serve eachother and try and make eachother happy as much as possible.

today, in fact, I’ve got a special surprise planned for my hubby that I got from this thread. he loves poker. so I’ve got all this change that I’m dividing up and I’m gonna set up the table and I’m making hot wings and fries and we’re gonna play poker! I really am not that into it, but he loves it 🙂 I’m gonna put on something cute for him too. I told him there’s a special surprise waiting for him at home, so I know he’ll hurry home 🙂

My wife has greeted me with a hug and kiss every day that I can remember since we were married ten years ago.

She has told the kids that until I get my shoes off and put away my coat, wallet, phone, etc., they can give me a hug but can’t be demanding my time.

Coming home to a house that isn’t in chaos is probably the happiest thing for me…unless my wife wears a nice skirt or dress to greet me.👍

Husband here, but…
Maybe I’ve got simple need/pleasures… but this usually works:

a) “Hi” and a kiss at the door

b) 20 or so minutes to change clothes, check my mail/email and get a swig or two off a cold one.

c) THEN the download of who/what/where/how/why we’re going to shuttle the kids around to their various activities that night!

A treat:

“The kids are gone, have rides home, and we can go out for dinner, or just chase eachother around the house for 3 or so hours…”

Awwww! I think that simply because you care enough to ask this question your husband must already love to come home!

My advice: be sincerely happy that he’s home. Let your smile, your hello and your kiss tell him that you’ve lived your day for that very moment. Who wouldn’t love to come home to that??? 🙂

Lovingly,
Terry

I like to do this too, but w/o the makeup. DH finds me more kissable w/o it!

How gorgeous is this thread! It has inspired me. I must confess that I haven’t given this topic much thought before. I know that my husband is always happy to just be at home with me and the kids after a long, long day and a long commute home…but I’m sure there’s more I could do to give him a proper welcome.

One thing I have been doing - and it’s something I really hate doing - is washing up his morning coffee things. Now I know it sounds very small but I really hate the smell of coffee (especially during my three pregnancies) and he has this elaborate set up to make his own espresso. All those fiddly little bits and pieces smelling that revolting coffee smell…all that burnt milk just refusing to come off…then I have to figure out how to put it all back together in the right order. He has said don’t worry about it, but I don’t want him to come home and find breakfast dishes still in the sink. Do I get bonus points for doing something I hate?😛

I think it’s a great topic!
I’m one of the mindsets that one should–or at least I should–put on a little make up and a clean shirt that he likes. This kind of thing is important to my husband.
A friend of mine a long time ago told me that if you don’t dress up for your husband, somebody else will! And you know, this has happened to us a time or two so I know it’s true. And my husband worked in the fitness industry for years so he was seeing skinny half-dressed women all day–can’t have him coming home to an old baggy hag!

What really matters to him?

It is my understanding that nothing says “I love you honey–welcome home” to most men than a wife who’s eager to make love to them as soon as possible upon their arrival home.

Sometimes a distant second is a full-body massage, or a foot-rub.

Are you for real??? Do you have young children? I honestly can say that that is NOT the first thing my husband wants when he comes home. Like some of the other posts, he would like to walk in to a tidy house and something to eat, be it dinner or a snack until dinner is ready. Music playing and a glass of wine are nice, and I try to do that when dinner is still cooking, but what he loves most is when the kiddos run tohim yelling daddy is home daddy is home, i missed you daddy!

Okay, now that I see that I responded to a posts from several years ago, i feel a little foolish, but i still meant what i posted LOL
Good night everyone!

hand him the remote

do you ladies notice our discussions and topics here change somewhat on Sunday afternoon while football is on?
The trick here is to become interested in football. Once I learned to like the game, I am the one who reminds him that games are on and we watch them together and root for our team…who by the way won the Superbowl this year. My other favorite team is Notre Dame, who unfortunaly crashed and burned this year.

4Blessings I have been married 17 years and have a child who now 12, but it didn’t matter what age she was my husband would very thrilled to make love as soon as he got home. Ofcourse with kids underfoot that isn’t often possible unless you can arrange them to be at Grandma’s. And “are you for real???” is a less then polite reponse to someone’s opinion. Maybe you should actually ask your husband how he’d feel about it.

Husband here for 15 years.

Simple for me…The reason I come home is because she’s there waiting. Good enough reason for me.

I could care a darn about if dinner is made. If it’s not, I have two arms and two legs (thank God) and can make it for both of us.

I could care a darn about how she’s dressed. I have told her many times, sweatpants and T-shirt is all fine by me.

I could care how the house looks. It’s normally fine since we both chip in over the course of the week to keep it up.

What’s more important to me when I get home is hearing how her day went and hopefully not hearing anything is wrong medically. If both of those items are “in-check” - the remainder is a bonus.

I politely apologize for the “are you for real” question, when I posted it I was not trying to be ugly, I was actually laughing, so I am sorry for offending you… As far as my husband goes, we did discuss it this morning before he left for work because I found it quite interesting, and his answer was plainly that NO that was not the first thing he would want to do when he got home, he felt that would be very selfish of him knowing that I was home all day with the little ones and that I was still doing my job of mothering and probably needed time to unwind myself. For him, he would like to relax from his day and unwind a bit first and formost and then to spend time with us as a family and then with me after the kids have gone to bed. Might sound odd to you, but maybe it is just the difference between having one child at home and 4 children at home. I say go for whatever makes things work for your family.

Didn’t mean to jump on you, I see you are new here. It’s true everyone is different. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with how many kids a person has, more likely different preferences in different men. I have close friends with several children and the general opinion is (at least with their hubby’s) is this would be appreciated.
As far as being selfish, I’m not saying the man should it expect it. I’m saying a nice surprise (despite being home all day with the kids) would welcomed and appreciated. Not a regular event, that certainly isn’t practical. My husband would certainly not expect sex as soon as he walked in the door, just would appreciate it.
Anyway everyone is different, and every couple is different. Whatever works for you both is great.👍

I do nothing, because he is always excited to come home after work since work is over with for the day. I feel the same way as he does. We both work there. LOL
